I thought it would be interesting to see the ages of all our fellow cruisers, so if you feel soo inclinded post below.

It MIGHT kill the rumours of HAL people beeing OLD, but on the other hand it might confirm them!!! :D :D I thought this might be a fun little thread.

I'll Start, I am newly 27, and my Fiance will be 33 come cruise time.

I celebrated my 40th at the Pinnacle on the Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago; our first night on the ship! (But since everything runs backwards south of the border, I went from 39 to 38, right?)

You should look at the poll and that gives you a much larger cross section.
I am 49.

Let's just say if I ever want to see age 50 again I'll need a very strong rear-view mirror. ;)

Weeeeeelllll, I've said my age before in some quiet corners of this board, but here I'll 'fess up to sure not being on the sunny side of 50. You can almost tell age by the people who don't post.

When I meet people, I never hesitate to tell my age because you're right there in front of me and you know who I am in the true sense. But here in the dark it's just a number ... which is all it should really be anyway;)

Can't understand this obsession with age. We're only as old as we feel and after about 35 that becomes a variable! After a hard night you may feel about 60 - but on the other hand, you might feel 20 again ;)

Many 60 and 70+ year olds these days have more energy (albeit perhaps short term) than the 20/30 age group - just watch them dance up a storm around the pool at lunch time or on a Big Band cruise.

Health issues have affected what we can and cannot do these days so my advice is, do what you can do as long as you can do it! Forget about which birthday you last celebrated ;) :D

Ask yourself this question:
What percentage of cruisers actually subscribe to Cruisecritic?
(Hint: 10s of MILLIONS of cruisers; 110,000+ Cruisecritic Members)

Then ask yourself:
What percentage of older folks own PCs and regularly cruise the net and participate in chat forums?

Finally ask yourself:
Will the results of this poll make any logical sense to anyone??

This is not logical. Most people in the brown envelope society do not have the skills to use nor do they want to use a dang blasted computer thing. I am younger then that. I am old enought to know better and young enough to try. I am 50ish. No offence to my elders, my dad (84) does press a button on command to print a pic of his great grand kids.

Okay, now I'm mad ... just plain old fashioned mad:mad: . What the heck is all that about? (I'm talking to the last 2 posters).

You're living in a vacuum if you think for a minute that people over the age of 55 don't know how to use a computer and the internet and everything else you so called "younger folk" do.

And they have a heck of a lot more time to do it!

I have to agree with you, My mom has become semi computer literate in the last few years.

Bill Gates she is not, but she and a lot of her friends enjoy shopping on line and of course e mail now that they live in Florida away from friends and family.

My mom has always had a fear of new technology, My sisters and I always joke that if it was invented after 1950 my mother thinks its a form of witchcraft *LOL*. But i happen to know many seniors who are regularly on the computer looking up a wide variety of things.

And yes they do have the time to surf and explore the net and learn all types of things.

As the elder statesman on this thread (see earlier post) I began using computers in 1986 to prepare lectures and for grading (I remember that when I got my first computer that I immediately upgraded it to 626 Kb of RAM!). We were the first in our family (7 children) to get a cable modem in 1995. We do too much shopping on the net, pay all of our bills, spend time playing computer golf (much straighter drives than in reality!), burn cd slideshows of our travels, and spend time on message boards. So age does not equate with technologically challenged!

This is not logical. Most people in the brown envelope society do not have the skills to use nor do they want to use a dang blasted computer thing. A simple google search brought up 2 interesting sites to refute this statement with actual information. See: Older Americans and the Internet (http://www.pewinternet.org/PPF/r/117/report_display.asp) and Senior Citizen Internet Use Grows 50 Percent (http://chuckgoetschel.blogharbor.com/blog/_archives/2004/8/8/127826.html)

I also belong to a lineage society that has a reputation for 'old' people (our chapter does have an excellent mix of ages) and the computer knowlege of many of our 'senior' members is astounding. They do know and are interested in computers and the Internet.

I turned 50 on my last birthday, DH is 54. We have been happily sailing on HAL since I was 26 and he was 30. I don't think I've ever been the youngest on board our cruises.

The best tablemates we ever had.;)Tatka, they really do look like great company! I've always said the best table we ever had was on the Maasdam. There were 5 couples ranging in age from a honeymoon couple in their early 30's to a couple the eldest of whom was 85. And then we had everything in between.

For every obnoxious "old" person on a cruise, there is an equally obnoxious "young" person. I would never gauge how much fun, or how interesting, a person is by their age.

Any blanket remark with reference to people over a certain age is ridiculous. We all get there at some point and I'm here to tell you that nothing changes inside you as you get older. I feel just as I did at 35. No difference whatsoever inside my soul. I just know a little more than I used to;)

Can you imagine ...they were refugee from Cuba! She was a daughter of rich owner of tabacco plantaion and got here right before the revolution. He was a doctor (I think he still is) who got here on a little boat. He was laughing hard when I asked him if he visited Key West before...and said that this was first stop in US.;) Cruise on Zuiderdam was their 64th cruise!!! Since my DH likes politics and history ( I do too to some degree) we had a lot to talk too.

We're a couple of retired "seniors" - not fogies. He's older than I am and that's all I'm saying! We've always met folks of any age group, on cruises, that were wonderful company.
