My husband and I have booked an SS category, but we're wondering if we should upgrade to a full S suite while there are some available.

Exactly what amenities are offered in the S category that we won't get in the SS?

I hear there are some special perks that make the difference in price worthwhile. We need to re-book shortly if we want one.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Lois

I thought I heard something about free laundry services, but do not see it listed there. Is this included and how does it work?

Laundry and dry cleaning are included in the price of an "S" and "PS" category cabin. You place the articles you want laundered into a provided bag, complete the laundry slip and leave it for your steward. He brings it to the laundry and returns it to you between 24-48 hours later.

We sailed the Z'dam and the O'dam with the Deluxe Veranda Suites and they are worth the extra $$.

The laundry is simple: There's a bag in the cabin. Fill out the form with what you would like done, place it and the item(s) in the bag, call the Neptune lounge and its done. You will have it by the next day at no charge.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

We have booked our suite for the Westerdam/Feb 13, 2005/W Carribean and can't wait!!! Anyone else????

So now I've got the laundry part down. What are the other "extra perks" we can expect in a regular Suite? -- boarding, tendering, any special parties?

I'm on the 13 Feb Westerdam! With 15-16 others as a group of current and past Thule, Greenland residents -
Can't Wait!! :D

We just got off the Westerdam.

Perks are priority tendering and priority disembarkation (you can stay in your cabin until 10:30 a.m. day of disembarkation or you can leave as early as you want AFTER they announce that disembarkation has commenced)

Neptune Lounge - never have to go to the main desk or shore excursion desk - everything is handled through the concierge or assistant in the Neptune. There are 3 types of juices, 6 types of coffees, numerous teas, fruit, cookies, chocolates, mini sandwiches, cold cereal, croissants, raisin buns, rolls, fruit salad and many other assorted items to eat that are too numerous to name. You can rent DVD's here.

There is a Captain's reception for S cabin passengers on day of embarkation. There is a Suite Luncheon in the Crow's Nest.

Free laundry, dry cleaning and pressing.

Preferential treatment as to dining room assignment - we had early lower at 6:15 and got our requested table - 136 - aft center - right by the windows.

Cabin is bigger.

Complimentary bottle of wine - not champagne like it used to be.

Newspapers delivered to cabin.

Priority booking for Pinnacle.

Hope this helps. We had cabin 7055 - right across from the Neptune lounge - GREAT location!!

Escorted to Neptune upon embarkation, where we left our carryons and explored the ship.

Any other questions - let me know and I will attempt to answer.

Just curious - What newspapers do they deliver to the suites?

Love table 136 on the Vista-Class ships!

Sorry, Brian, I don't recall - we did not read them. I think it was USA today, but not positive and we only got it 3 days out of 7. On all 7 days, we got a condensed version of the NY Times - 8 pages long that had the top news, financial and sports. Also included a crossword puzzle and temperatures in major cities - was very nice to get.

Yes, table 136 is THE BEST - plenty of room between chairs, great steward and assistant!

WOW - getting newspapers again in the cabins?? We didn't get one US Today on our last 2 HAL cruises - May (Maasdam - 13 days) and Oct/Nov (Statendam - 21 days). In fact the only newspaper in the Neptune Lounge on the Statendam for the entire 21 days was the US Today from the first day we got on the ship.

We will be in cabin 7053 in less than 3 weeks.

Was there a VIP party?

When was the Mariner's Party?

How many people does table 136 seat? We have four of us going, all in S suites, and may try for this table.

We sat with Windy City and Marshacher and their spouses at Table 136. Kris is right - it is a wonderful table. It seats 6 very comfortably. It has a wonderful view of the wake of the ship and even though it is in the aft, it was a very stable location.

Not only were the steward and assistant excellent, the food was very good. I think the quality of the ingredients on the ship were a cut above what we have experienced in the past. That said - if you are a fish lover, you will find that there is not much of a fish selection. However, there was an abundance of red meat, like beef and lamb.

I think that our wonderful table was enhanced by the people who sat at it. We all got to know each other on the Roll Call board and decided to sit together. Kris knew that suite passengers had a reasonable chance for getting a special table and made all of the arrangements. It worked out well.

This was our first cruise on HAL. It won't be the last.

When we were on the Zuiderdam 18 mos ago & the Volendam last Christmas, suite passengers could eat lunch at the Pinnacle free and the King or Queens room (can't remember which) on the Volendam. Is this gone by the wayside?

On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of our cruise on the Westerdam last week, lunch was offered in the Pinnacle from 12-1 p.m. - I don't know if there was a charge.

There was a $10.00 per person charge according to the daily schedule.
