My TA just got a fax from HAL saying no embarkation for Maasdam tomorrow in Norfolk until 4:00pm, with delayed sailing until 7:00pm. Anyone know what's up?

So far I haven't heard on any mechanical problems.

Could be weather?

Storms and rough seas along the Atlantic coast?

You just got me thinking about something. You mentioned that your TA got a fax from HAL and he/she contacted you about the Maasdam going to arrive back in Norfolk late tomorrow and boarding won't begin until 4.

We always go to our port of embarkation no matter what city it is a few days early. We do book our cruises through a TA but we do our own air and hotels. So if a ship was due back into a port late and HAL faxed our TA, she would have no idea of where to contact us. Also, if a ship were late on a weekend, many TA's wouldn't get the faxes until Monday.

Hello,
I just got an email from my son, who is on the Maasdam at this moment... It seems they are experiencing high seas, which has slowed the Maasdam down alot. He told me that they would not be in until 4:30 tomorrow.
Hope this helps...

MAN..... That would really throw a wrench into our travel plans !!!! Talk about missing our flight , HMMMMM.... We sail her in four weeks , what to do with all those people who have to check out by 11:00 , then wait outside till 4-5 pm. ... not the way to start a vacation

I am here at Va Beach. We have been having extremely high winds and cold air. This weather has been all along the coast. So, Maasdam must be in this weather.

We have had situations when we have had to check out of hotel rooms at a certain time ( not related to late cruise ship arrivals). We went ahead checked out. Put our luggage in the hotel's storage area and just bummed around - ate - did whatever we felt like doing for a few hours. No problem.

If the Maasdam isn't due into Norfolk until 4:30 tomorrow, sounds like the passengers won't be able to get near the pier until very late - customs clearance - luggage take off - etc.

This will definitely change their itinerary for the first couple of days.

I hope the seas calm down for you and that you have a great cruise, even it it leaves a little late.

HAL called us directly this time - about 8:00pm EST to say that the ship is even more delayed and there will be no embarkation until at least 7:00pm Wednesday night. Reason given was rough seas. They asked my DH if he had any questions and he asked if this would screw up our first port (Half Moon Cay on Friday). They said no ... but I don't see how we will ever make it that far by then. Guess we have all day to make the 4 hour drive!:(

I am so sorry that your ship is late coming in. Maybe they will make up the speed and get to HMC on time.

Thanks for your comments! Trying to be upbeat. A little concerned that with this being a sold-out Holiday cruise it will be chaos at the pier Wednesday night. I assume anyone with "early" dinner will miss it completely. Guess I should look up how late the Lido is open?

I just looked at my schedule and the lido is open until 9:30 for dinner. with everyone getting on the ship, they probably will have dinner available later.
Have a wonderful time and I am sure you will once you are under way. YOu are going where is it warm and that is the important thing!
