View Full Version : Veendam--S cat. suites noisy location???

We have just booked an S category suite on the Veendam to Bermuda in June. I love the extra room, but all of them are located on the deck underneath the pool/deck area--except for a few under the spa (those suites are near the elevators and stairs). I have chosen suite S004 which is right beneath the spa check in area which should be quiet. However, we are right next to the stairs and elevators--an area I always avoid because people can be noisy. So do I "pick my poison"--either the stair/elevator noise or the noise of chairs being dragged around in the pool area?
Can anyone shed some light on this? Have you stayed on this deck? If so, what about the overhead noise from the deck above? We have suffered deck noise on cruises past so I would like to choose my best option.
As always, thank you for sharing your experience and expertise.

We have stayed in S004 many times on the Veendam, Maasdam, Ryndam and Statendam.
It is a nice quiet cabin -- we did not hear anything from people walking on the stairs. You can not hear the elevators. I am a light sleeper.
This location is so much better than the cabins around the Neptune Lounge where you can hear the crew moving the furniture very early in the morning when they wash the deck above. Then you hear people moving lounge chairs, tables and chairs off and on all day. Then the crew has to clean up at the end of the day.
My DH needs to nap from time to time because of his medications and we found that area to be too noisey for us. We used to book cabins in that area -- not any more.

I appreciate your confirming my fear of noise mid ship--even though being close to the Neptune Lounge would be convenient, the overhead noise would wake me up early in the morning. And now that you have alleviated my fears about the elevators and stairs, I can breathe easier. Thanks so much!

We will be in S005 on the Veendam. Now I am nervous. We will be right under the grill. We didn't have a choice . . . it was the only cabin left. :-(

We are always in mid ship "S" cabins across from Neptune and never have been bothered by over head noise in the mornings. On occasion, we hear them moving pool furniture around late afternoon when they clean up the deck. It is minor and doesn't go on for very long. Having the mid ship location far out weighs the very slight afternoon noise we hear once in a while.
We once stayed far forward on Veendam as that was the only Suite left when we booked and we were fine in it. Enjoyed the cabin fine but went back to our mid ship location for our next booking.
Choices. :) Everyone makes their own choices.

I wouldn't give it another thought, MomC and emckeeve. I predict that you'll be pleased with the location(s) of your suites. Been there, loved that.
The Navigation Deck is a very quiet place throughout the day, with very little foot traffic. I don't imagine that you'll ever hear much from above either, with the possible exception of the Pool Party night, if that's on the schedule for your cruise. On that night, we heard the music from above and the subsequent straightening of tables and chairs. No biggie.
