HAL ships are unique in being floating museums displaying Dutch and Asian antiquities - many of which are several hundred years old.
HAL also has an illustrious history - nearly as long and just as interesting as that of Cunard.

HAL will no longer serve Coca-Cola products. Word has it that HAL signed a long term contract with Dr. Pepper & Mountain Dew. Those will be the only sodas available "for the convenience of our guests." http://boards.cruisecritic.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Hmmm...that's interesting. Makes one wonder if there is some connection between this (supposed?) new contract with Dr. Pepper and the discontinuation of soda cards?

I'm not allowed much in the way of real drinks anymore and am reduced to caffeine free diet Coke. If that's gone too....
What's a girl gonna do? I'm not one to schlepp anything extra.

Your Age by Chocolate (seriously, pardner!)
Can't believe how this works??? lol YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE This is pretty neat. DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute....... Work this out as you read. Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out! This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun. Go ahead
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate. (more than once but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)
3. Add 5. (for Sunday)
4. Multiply it by 50. I'll wait while you get the calculator................
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1754....If you haven't, add 1753 ........
6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
You should have a three digit number ....
The first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).
The next two numbers are
YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2004) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

The fun times in the Piano Bar. On the Westerdam we had Steven Lowenthal who could play just about anything, knew some of the most obscure songs and fun lyrics from broadway shows. He was such an engaging and outgoing guy. Also was tireless, playing continuously all evening.

I know this is in jest but nonetheless, it made my day. Imagine a cruise where they served only my nectar, Dr. Pepper and MD as a back-up. Give me some Oreos and Peanut Butter and I will be in heaven. Love it. Love it. Love it.

Never fear. You will notice that Ncruiser resurrected an almost two-year-old thread. And JDee's post, from December 2004, was in jest. :)

We enjoyed him, too! One of the best piano guys we've seen. Is he still on a HAL ship someowhere?

I can't drink Coke, just don't like it. But I DO take on those little containers of powdered Crystal Light in several flavors and my steward keeps a pitcher of water for me to mix them. They're just tiny little containers...takes no room at all.:)

are they switching to Pepsico products then? Dr. Pepper is owned by Cadbury-Schweppes, but is usually bottled by Pepsi, I think Moutain Dew is a Pepsico product.
....thats what I get for posting without reading the whole thread! (wiping egg off face ) :)
as for HAL secrets.... not sure if its a "secret" but pre dinner drinks and dancing in the crows nest.... never thought I'd say this, grapefruit consmo, very nice pre dinner drink :)
