First time on an "S" Class
seven nite Eastern Carib. Sunday to Sunday
Port days are Tues, Wed and Thur
Would Formal nites be Monday and Friday?
Also, usually took 10 -12 day cruises and wore tuxedo for formal nites.
Would be be inappropriate to wear a sport coat with shirt , tie, dress
slacks and dress shoes on formal nites??
Thank You

Most likely Monday and Friday. A dark suit and tie are perfectly fine for men. If you wish to talk your tux or rent one, all the better

Those should be the formal nights. Sport coats are not formal on Celebrity. A suit is OK. Could you get away with the sport coat...maybe, but it's not what's requested.

Would not be "inappropriate". You will see mostly dark suits, some tuxes and some sportcoats with tie. Is it formal? NO. But neither, in reality, is a dark suit. Celebrity cruisers tend to choose dressier than RCl or Carnival.
My dh wears a dark suit. I wear a cocktail dress or black crepe pants with a sparkly/lacy top. So we "match" our level of dress.;)

Copied and pasted this from the Celebrity Site.
Formal
Ladies: Cocktail dress, gown or dressy pantsuit
Gentlemen: Tuxedo, suit or dinner jacket with slacks
My Dh has just lost a great deal of weight and has more to lose. We will be purchasing him a black sports jacket and slacks. Not investing in a suit to be worn twice. We are on your cruise so you won't be alone ;) Considering the week we are going, I think we will find a mixture of the items listed.

Charity shops for formal gear, stuff posh people only wear once & give away, that's what we wear.

A dark sport coat or blazer with a nice pair of dress slacks, shirt and tie are fine for a formal night. I guarantee no one from Celebrity will say a word to you or give you the "mal occhio" (Evil Eye). Yes, you may be looked down upon by certain people who frequent these boards but hopefully, they won't be on your cruise that week. :)
It's a vacation cruise in 2010.....not formal night on the Titanic circa 1912. Enjoy!

PS: If you want to "Put on the Ritz" with a tux and all the accoutrement, do it! It's fun. I've done both and never felt uncomfortable in either circumstance!
