A question about the new Mariner program

I was just wondering about the new Mariner program. I have been on 2 cruises with HAL (one 7 day and one 16 day - both on the Eurodam) :D so should be at the required number of days for a 2 Star Mariner on my next 7 day cruise (I think). :D My question is, will I be considered a 2 Star Mariner on said 7 day cruise or do I have to have completed 30 cruise days meaning I'll be a 2 Star Mariner after that cruise is over? Or, will I need a cruise longer than 7 days to reach the 30 day mark (wouldn't complain there)? I'm just wondering how the new system works (since I never did understand the old one - my 1st HAL cruise was New Years 08/09 and the 2nd was in August of 09). :confused:

It's my understanding, you have to complete the number of days to change the number of stars. As a perk on the World Cruise the brochure stated you would change stars whenever the time came. This is something for the WC only.

We were told that if you reached a certain star level on a cruise, the benefits wouldn't start until after that cruise, and would be effective on the following cruise. My roommate had 67 days, and reached 75 days - a 3 star level - during our cruise, but was still considered a two star mariner on our cruise. However, I was at a 3 star level, and, as we had booked together, and thus had the same booking number, she got any perks that came under the 3 star benefits. If we had had separate booking numbers, she would only have gotten the 2 star benefits.

From HAL's web site:

If I become eligible for a higher benefit tier while onboard, when can I take advantage of the additional benefits?
For all cruises except Grand Voyages, your elevated benefits will take effect on your next Holland America Line cruise. If you cross a star level threshold while on board a Grand Voyage (based on days sailed), you will be upgraded to your new star level for the remainder of that voyage.

We moved from two star to three star mariners on our recent Maasdam cruise. The benefits will not begin until our next cruise.

Ok, Thanks all!! :D That does make perfect sense. It's the way Carnival does it (my favourite cruise line) so at least I know that I won't have 2 different methods to keep track of!! :D

Now, I have to go book 2 more HAL cruises. I think I'll try something other than the Eurodam this time (even though I love that ship)!! :D It's time to broaden my horizons (not to far though, it'll still be a Vista or Signature Class ship)!! :D

Book either the Westerdam or the Noordam -- we love both of those ships!!

Remember that every $300 in on-board spending (except casino) counts as another "day sailed". If you sail in a suite category each day aboard counts as two days.
The Mariner Days can add up quickly if you spend a lot.
