Je suis moron. I lost my passport (somewhere in my house, and yes - I have torn the place apart looking for it). I usually keep it with my other documents, but it wasn't there... and I can't remember where I safely "hid" it...

So Today I visited a passport office and after shelling out around $120 CAD, I get to pick up my new passport on Thursday - in time for my flight on Friday. I'm assured now of finding the passport this weekend, LOL

They had already called my Guaranteer within 10 minutes of leaving thier offices.

Let's hope this is the only hic-up in the trip :D

Cheers,

Deb

Glad you have your new passport.

But why do you hide it??

Glad you have your new passport.

But why do you hide it??

That's the question for the ages! The edges were starting to curl, so I "think" I put it somewhere to flatten it.

It's not in any of the usual OR unusual places... Moot point now as it's now cancelled!

Cheers,

Deb

That happened to me once. The night before I was to fly to Germany I started looking. I spent the entire night looking and filled several garbage bags with things that I cleaned out of closets and drawers, but no passport. I was on the phone with the airlines the next morning when I opened a kitchen cupboard and found the passport in a casserole dish. Right where it belongs!

I've lost many things around my house but never my passport. I think I look every month to see if it's in the same spot....then no surprises.

I'm surprised a Canadian Government office can do something so fast

I never leave home wiwithout it, or that Amex card -- to quote the old TV ad. Never know when I have to leave town suddenly for 'who knows where'.

I found mine in the scanner - had been making new copies of the important stuff, needed to do the passport a second time and left it there. I was doing the final check to make sure I had everything - we were leaving two hours later! My husband had to ask me three times "when did you see it last?" before the light bulb switched on!!!:eek:

We now need a passport to go to dinner (in Mexico, but they have some better restaurants there than the US city even farther away.), but this rule is new and it's very hard to remember. For so many years it was so easy to cross.:) It takes both DW and I to remember to take it.:(
The world is changing, not for the better.

One day while shoppiing in a plaza, the bank had yellow tape around it as it had just been robbed. There was a woman in front crying and when I asked what it was about, she said, through sobs, that her husband's passport was in their safety deposit box and he needed that afternoon for a business trip to Europe.

Of course no one at the bank, including the police, would let her in to get it.

Better to keep it in a safe place at home and put it back there right after you get home from a trip.

I too am surprised that the Canadian government acted that fast. I live in Canada.

I too am always amazed at how well the Canadian Passport service works. We have had nothing but good service. Just had something unbelievable happen this week along those lines. I applied for my official long form Quebec birth certificate...sent it off via express mail last Thursday and also paid a little extra for it to be sent back express mail. Well it arrived at our doorstep on Friday. My Visa has been charged on Wed. (you can pay by visa). I was shocked.

Our very first Canadian passports took all of 8 days from the time we put in the applications to the time we received the passports at our door!

I also agree that Passports should not be kept in either a casserole dish  or even in a safe deposit box in a bank..

What happens if you have any emergency & need it immediately..

With so many people traveling out of the country at the last minute, my opinion is to keep them in a Fireproof Safe or a good Fireproof locked box at home with all your inportant papers..In addition to our actual passports, I keep a photocopy of it with copies of all our credit cards in a secure & locked but different area in our house...

JMO..Cheers..Betty

Like TaxGuy77, I need mine to go out to dinner - or pick up my mail.

It's always in my purse, in an inside pocket. If the purse doesn't have an inside pocket for my passport, I don't buy it.

I *do* have to make sure I have the right purse with me! Got 5 minutes from home on Tuesday and had to turn around and go back.

I know the thought of carrying a passport constantly/casually must curl some hair here. Just a fact of life when you live on an international border.

Deb - good to know the passport office can "step on it" any time je serai moron.

HEh - I am always amazed by the passport office. My Dad went into the office on a Monday morning, dropped off and paid for his renewal - got the new passport in the mail (registered) on Thursday.

I think it's the only government office that's efficient!

Cheers,

Deb

I have my passport! I just got off the phone with HAL and they happily took my updated number, issuance and expiry dates!

That's a load off my mind for sure!

Happy cruising!

Deb

We keep our passports in a waterproof container in our storm shelter along with other critical documents.

.....if you look like your passport photo, you need the vacation!
