We're not going to Antartica, per se, just around the cape-can anyone say if there will be snow around the cape on the Veendam, next week. Saw all the snow pictures, but they were probably further south???? Helaine

Probably no snow there. It's significantly warmer at Cape Horn, and you are away from the forces at work in Antarctica. My first time around the Horn I was outside without a coat! Second time, I wore my coat, but it wasn't bad out there.
In Ushuaia there will be snow up in the mountains, but not at sea level.

It's summer down there right now, anyway....the seasons are reversed in the northern and southern hemispheres.

But it's at the extreme end of the hemisphere---and it can get darned cold down there in the summer.

The heavy snow fall on Veendam was far south, along the Antartic Peninsula... On the other hand we saw some flurries (didn't stick) in Chile...
Expect wind and cold around Punta Arenas and Ushuaia... expect summer weather in Valparaiso and Buenos Aries...

We did this cruise last Feb. I packed some summer stuff for beginning and end of cruise. Sent it to the laundry when it started to get cold and it was ready when it got warm again. For the cold, I packed several cotton turtlenecks and several sweatshirts. All mix and match. I also packed two sweaters one heavy one lighter. I brought along a gore tex jacket I got from either LL Bean or Lands End. I forget which. I could layer up or down according to the weather. I was always comfortable.
