Hello, all! :)

We will be sailing in a Deluxe Verandah Suite (SA) on the Oosterdam and are wondering what recommendations any of you have regarding the best location to select.

We are specifically wondering about any noise issues with any of the cabins, especially those near the Neptune Lounge. For those who have sailed near the NL, has it been noisy with people coming in and out?

We currently have 7062 booked; any thoughts regarding that cabin/location?

Thanks, much, for your help! :)

I've cruised in suites close to the Neptune, and in ones further away.

My conclusion is close is good, and 7062 is pretty much perfect.

The Neptune is only open in daylight hours, so noise is not a big factor.

We were in 7055 (I think), directly across from the entrance to the Neptune, and heard nothing.

On the Vista class ships (and Signature ship) we have booked many cabins directly across from the Neptune Lounge.

They are quiet.

I think that as the others have said, you will not have any noise problems. You will be close to the Neptune Lounge and be hooked for life to it!!

If you've not seen photos of the SA's on Oosterdam here is a link to view some. Specifically SA 7057 and SA 7071 Deluxe Verandah Suite Staterooms Deck 7 Rotterdam Deck http://joanjett2000.topcities.com/HAL/Noordam/index.html

We were close to the Neptune Lounge on the Zuiderdam and the Noordam and heard no noises. On the Noordam, we were directly across from the lounge and the only time we heard any noises was the first night during the reception that was held there. Even so, we had to be right next to the door to hear voices. IMO, the closer to the NL, the better. :)

Have a wonderful cruise... :)

We were in Cabin 7064 on the Oosterdam for our Panama Canal Cruise in November of 2009. It was a great location - just a few steps from the Neptune Lounge, close to the elevators, and no noise what-so-ever! You will love it! The Neptune Lounge is open from 7:00AM to 8:15PM, so you won't have any noise problems what-so-ever! All-in-all, the Rotterdam deck is pretty 'dam' quiet, anyway!! Sure makes me wish I was back on board!

If Michelle and Essay are still the Concierges in the Neptune, please tell them that Mr. and Mrs. Landry say "Hello". They were just the best ever! You will be so-o spoiled!! Also - look/ask for Toto in the MDR - we asked for to be seated in his section every night and Michelle & Essay made sure we had our same table each evening. He is a treasure and possibly the friendliest dining steward we have ever had. We never waited nor wanted for a thing while dining!!

Have a wonderful cruise. You will love your cabin - you will love the "O" - she is a beautiful ship!! Smooth Sailing Always!! :D

PS: Hint: Use the glass elevators on the side of the ship rather than the center ones - they are MUCH faster!!

We had 7062 on Noordam last year. We loved it so much that we booked 7062 for our Son & Daughter in Law and 7060 for ourselves on the Oosterdam this April.
Have fun!

You will not hear any noise from the Neptune lounge and you will love being that close to it. We always get as close as possible, makes it so handy to get coffee or that little sack. I think you will be surprised how much you use the lounge area and those fabulous concierges. Have a great cruise!

We've not had an SA on the Oosterdam or actually any Vista or Signature class ship but have on the R and S class ships. We've never, ever heard any noise connected with the Neptune Lounge. Maybe it's a bad choice of the term "lounge", though I can't think of a better one, but "lounge" in this case is not a bar/cocktail lounge. It's a quiet, relatively reserved reception area and other than the possible suite passenger reception very rarely gets really crowded or noisy.

On the Vista ships, SAs near the Neptune lounge are great.

On the S and R ships, we choose a stateroom under the spa area (ex S005) because in those classes of ships, the S suites across from the Neptune are under the pool, and we can't take the noise.

Happy cruising.

Thanks much, everyone, for the feedback you have provided.

Now that it is clear that sound from the Neptune will not be a problem, I do have one more [three-part!] question regarding the location of the SA (7062, in our case):

1. Have any of you, JoeMGiants in particular, found that being close to the glass elevators is a problem in any way?

2. Does the elevator obstruct your view while on your balcony?

3. Can people in the elevator see you at all, while you are on your balcony?

We are wondering if it would be beneficial to move farther away from the elevator, to the other end of the Neptune, possibly cabin 7056 or 7054. I do, however, like the idea of being closer to the stairs and the elevator, while in 7062.

Thanks, again, for your help! :)

1. Have any of you, JoeMGiants in particular, found that being close to the glass elevators is a problem in any way? Not a problem at all.

2. Does the elevator obstruct your view while on your balcony? Not that we noticed.

3. Can people in the elevator see you at all, while you are on your balcony? Nope.

We would move to 7056 or 7058 if possible because the entrance to the Neptune Lounge puts you right at the food area.

Thanks, again, for your help! :)

We were in 7062 on the Westerdam and loved it with no issues of privacy. And we were in 7056 on Oosterdam. Frankly, either cabin are among the best on the ship. And they make popping into the Neptune for a snack super easy. You scored one of the best cabins. Be happy.:D:D:D

People riding on the glass elevators can see on to the balcony immediately adjacent to the elevators. How much they can see varies based on which deck, and which elevator. The second balcony over is totally private.

We are currently booked in Oosterdam room 7048. It is next to the penthouse. We were wondering if the way the penthouse room/balcony extends out would affect our view from our balcony at all.

We are all set with our room but our kids want a Deluxe Veranda. Does anyone know how noisy Deck 10 is. It seems that it is below a lot of stuff. They will stay there and wear earplugs but this is our daughter's first cruise so I want her to know what to expect. Our son-in-law hates noise but he is really good with ear plugs.

This is on the Ryndam. Am I in the wrong place? I'll go check.
Thanks! Jo

Personally I've never been bothered by noise from above other than the occasional thump or bump and most of our cabins have been under the Lido. We live in a very quiet house and without kids at home we very used to peace and quiet. From years of working in the emergency room and night shifts in the hospital I sleep very lightly and my wife jokingly says I can hear a gnat pass gas.:eek: I think if anybody is going to notice or be bothered by noise it would be us. :)

You need to start a thread about the Ryndam.

Ryndam is a "S" Class ship and different layout than Vista/Signature Class. There are many differences about those classes and the "SA" vs "S" cabins.

However, we always book "SA" and "S" cabins (depending upon which class of ship we are sailing) very near Neptune. We like to close to the Lounge and noise is not a problem.

Just got off the Oosterdam SA 7061 and loved the close access to the Neptune Lounge. The only time I heard any noise was the night of the welcome party and that ended at 8 pm. It was so easy to pop in for a latte.
