We rented one about two years ago. They were in back behind and more to the left as you face the shops from the ship. We rented later in the day by just going there and bargaining. You may just want to get a tax/bus/van to go to town. Van is cheap and would be fine to get to town and hang out at the beach.

So you can get them right at the port area? Generally, do they charge by the hour or the day?

We just returned from GC, And rented golf carts right at the port. They start at 100.00 a day, but i knew from these boards that the going rate was 75.00 but some negotiated for 60. We could only get them down to 75. We enjoyed the island. But if your looking to just have a beach day, it would be much much cheaper to take a cab.

I was just there last month and the golf carts are still there, behind the buildings. We used the guy on the right side if you are facing the parking lot. It was 40.00 for 2 hours, which we went over and he didn't charge us more. Or 80.00 for the day. I have to say the guy on the left side, tried to get us to take a cart that didn't work, and wanted 100.00.

We then took it way down the beach, 3 miles past the town to Jungle Woman, Susies place. 2 American ex pats, that are still trying to get things back to together after the hurricane destroyed most of their property. But a nice cold beer, or soda with chips and salsa are perfect. It is a nice ride..

enjoy

Can you use the golf carts to get to town? Did you get to sight see along the way and how many people can fit? Thanks!

Four to a golf cart; you have to ride on a asphalt road until you get into town. Once in town just keep riding along the road, theres a lot to enjoy and see, you can ride aways and then turn around and stop back in town to eat/swim/get massage.....

There's not a lot to sightsee on the way into town. You are not traveling along the beach. You are going from Nueva Mahahual (old Las Casitas) past the construction and other buildings, then left on the main highway then right into Mahahual (village). You have to find a place to park and then walk along the malecon. A taxi at $5 pp RT will get you to the exact same spot, cheaper and quicker and safer tahn the golf cart.
