Hi to you HAL freaks! As we are going to sail Statendam in summer we want to know about the dancing space on it. Where is it and how large is it? Further more what's about the dancing music? Good, better or from a disc?

Thanks for the reply in advance

Hi there, Robert!

Even though you won't find a grand dance floor like in the Queens Room on QM2, there are a few lounges on board that offer dancing before and after dinner.

Most of the music is by a live band ... recorded tunes are usually in the nightclub (Crows Nest on Statendam). The live music will be in the Ocean Bar, a pretty nice room if I recall.

I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves!

:)

On the Statendam there is a small dance floor in the Ocean Bar and a small dance floor in the Crow's Nest.

We love to listen to music drinking a cocktail before dinner (5:45 for us -- 5:30 on Alaskan cruises) in the Ocean Bar. But on our recent cruises on the Zuiderdam we were disappointed to discover that the music didn't start until 7 PM. So we didn't bother with pre-dinner cocktails. Hope this new practice isn't spreading to the other ships.

Robert, I have to disappoint you. There's not a dance floor in the HAL fleet that will accommodate that kind of a waltz. Usually if you get even four or five couples on the dance floor it is difficult to do more than basic steps. No room for a wide swinging waltz, if the band will even play one. Still, there can be situations where some couples prefer swing or latin and yield the floor to those who prefer waltz. If you are not shy, you might try waltzing on the carpeted areas near the Explorer's lounge, That's where you might hear, or even request, your kind of waltz music

Thank you to the 2ofyou! Once we even had the QM2s dancing floor for just the 2 of us during a wonderful Viennice waltz. The next days we were greeted by lots of spectators in the Queen room. This was one of our best cruising moments we had so far.

:D That tends to happen to everybody who is half-decent at ballroom dancing on all cruise lines. The whole ship always seems to know who we are. Last cruise, we were still recognised by people when in Lisbon the day after disembarking. On the HAL Volendam, people even thought we were part of the entertainment team because we are young and speak Dutch amongst each other. Now, our dancing is decent, but not THAT good . HAL is resonable for dancing, on the RCCL Splendour we kept on having problems with anti-slip flooring.

... who is half-decent ....
Very good description of our modest abilities on th efloor. Obviously it's enough, at least for the 2 of us. ;o)
