During a telephone call to HAL Customer Service I learned that the Prinsendam will be in drydock at Freeport, the Bahamas between January 3 - 13, 2005. This will be followed by a world cruise.

I knew that the Prinsendam was going to be dry docked before the World Cruise. I believe new carpets and bedspreads will be installed and probably the new beds as well.

I just hope that they can manage to fix the air conditioning as it was very erratic.

Yes, new mattresses will be added. They are wonderful. :D
Also a Concierge - This must mean a Neptune Lounge, but I am not sure.

I'm looking forward to the enhancements. We sail her in August.

The Prinsendam already has a very beautiful Neptune Lounge for suite passengers.

We'll be on her for the world cruise in two weeks - I hope they have her looking like new, and the new mattresses are very welcome! Can't imagine sleeping on an old hard bed for nearly four months!

"Concierge" refers to "one touch dial concierge" for suite guests by phone. This is to add an additional amenity by which to have special requests addressed, etc.

JennieJennie, a previous cruisemate who was on the Prinsendam in October 2003 around the Canal told me that the A/C was out most of the 22 day trip. It was over 80 degrees in her cabin. Also, the plumbing didn't work very well and leaked in some places.

When did you cruise on the P as I haven't read any posts with that problem recently. I join you in hoping that they fix their problems and upgrade the ship before the world cruise as I board her in NYC on May 9th just as you get off.

We just got off the Prinsendam Amazon Cruise and they have done a lot already to the ship. While we were on board thay brought 22 guys in to work on the air conditioning. (I believe they were replacing pipes) They shut our water off a couple of times to work on it. They sent a letter to all of us about turning off the water. (don't know for sure if that was for air conditioning or water problems.) We also had the new mattresses and comforters. Since we had a room on Main floor and not a veranda - I would think that the suites would also have the new bedding. We also had a new mirror and hair dryer. I know that it did have a Neptune Lounge. I am sure they will be working on a lot of other problems that the Prinsendam has when in dry dock and she will be ship-shape for the World Cruise. Penny

We were on the Prinsendam in October and the air conditioning was fine in our cabin but in the lounges it was too cold and in the dining room too hot. It just wasn't even throughout the ship.

We had the new make up mirrors and the hairdryers but in our S.S. cabin we had the old mattresses. In fact the mattress was so hard, I asked our steward for an egg crate mattress to go on top.

It will be a lovely ship when everything is finished as it is my idea of a real "ship" and not a floating hotel. There are very few of these left.

I've read that all the various Signature of Excellence enhancements will be completed on PRINSENDAM during this drydock - does this mean a new Explorations Cafe etc. as well, I wonder?

I have to wonder if the Zuiderdam will be doing the same as there doesn't seem to be any cruises scheduled until the end of January for that ship. Maybe someone has chartered her but drydock certainly wouldn't hurt. :)

The one-touch concierge button on the phone is not a big deal, as until now they had a little card next to the phone with the 4-digit phone number of the concierge. I guess they could program this into the phones anytime.

We had new matresses in our suite in November, the bed was very comfortable.

Sheri, the social hostess told us that the main work will be done in the gym, where the waiting room will be removed and replaced by a bigger aerobics room, which they didn't have until now. Also, some carpeting will be removed and the astroturf on the sun deck will be replaced by wood paneling.
