Has anyone taken a bus tour around SD? I read online about one that is 8 or 9 hours long and takes you into Tiajana (spelled wrong i am sure) for 3 hours. Would like to get info about that trip especially.

We booked a tour to Tijuana through our hotel concierge. We left around 9. We got there about 10:30. We got to roam Tijuana on our own until 2 - way too long! We happen to be there on Cinco de Mayo weekend and coming back was a nightmare. Our bus driver took us on a back raod t o get through the border.

We enjoyed Tijuana but felt they gave us far too much time. Nearly every one was back at the bus terminal at least 45 minutes early.

We did a full day tour with a stop for lunch, optional boat trip and crossing over to Mexico.(the border is only 20 min away) It was great, very informative covering most of S/D and was arranged through the hotel front desk. The time spent "over the other side" was long enough but not too long that we were standing about. It was an interesting experience with all the bartering etc but one which I would not repeat, (once is enough, it is definately a culture shock!!). Our bus driver was excellent and kept us on the straight and narrow also gave us some good advice for shopping----- Do's and don't's etc.

I can not remember the name of the tour bus company but the hotel staff are very knowlegable and will be able to help. I think the cost was $50 per person, that was in the fall of 2003.

Hope this helps.

Happy cruising. Bert.

Another option is the little red train that takes you to the border. You can easily take a cab from the border crossing area to the shopping area. No need for a tour company.

Lots to see in San Diego by buying a Trolley pass. Trolley stops at many major points of interest. Easy city to get around.

Our tolley can take you all over San Diego. There's also a small Old Town Trolley that goes on tours around the city.
The Gaslamp Quarter is also a fun spot to visit... of course there's also our Zoo, Balboa Park. If you have the time, a trip to Coronado is neat.
There are TONS of literature on all these at local hotels.

When we win the lottery, a move to San Diego will be the first thing we accomplish!!!!!! So much to do, and such a great climate. But don't tell too many people. ;-)

It's too late; the secret is out! They're already here!!! This place just keeps growing - way too much traffic!
