Questions for HAL veterans

Just booked an Alaskan cruise for my sister and I on the Ryndam leaving out on June 19th. This will be our first time sailing HAL. It will also be our first time in Alaska. I have cruised RCCL (2), NCL (2), and Carnival.

How does HAL compare? How does HAL set itself apart from the other major cruiselines?

How would you rate the Ryndam?

How much are taxi's in Anchorage?

What is a good place to stay in Anchorage?

Did you go by train or motorcoach from Anchorage to Seward? Did you do it on your own or did you buy a transfer through the cruiseline? Should you reserve in advance or can you arrange for transport when you arrive?

What is the port like in Seward? Is it complete chaos like the Port of Miami or Port Everglades?

How early can you embark? The ship is scheduled to depart at 8pm.

Welcome to the HAL board. Since a lot of your questions are Alaska specific, you may want to post them in the Alaska Port of Call forum.

As far as what sets HAL apart from other lines, IMO, it provides a more refined cruise experience, with friendly, courteous service.
