I am a worry wort and after talking to people who have been through it all and not wanting to rush or worry too much, we booked a 2 PM flight from Rome to Newark and then connecting home to Charlotte by 11PM.
Late but at least I feel that our trip to the airport and out on our flight
will not be too rushed plus we are taking Rome Cabs to have a car to the airport. My feelings, better safe than sorry! Good luck in whatever you do.

About 45 min to an hour. Don't forget you need to be at the airport at least 2 hours for checkin on international flights.

We had a flight at 11:30am last year. That was the earliest that Celebrity Cruise Lines would suggest that anyone book a flight.

45 min to an hour will get you to the main train station in Rome - not the airport and that does not allow for problems. What many people do not realize is that the port is really not near Rome. I would not want a flight before early afternoon because of distance and possible train strikes and it;s a foreign country so customs and check in at the airport will take longer. If you are providing your own transportation I would suggest keeping your luggage and requesting the earliest dis embarkment. Enjoy your trip.

It is very doubtful that you can make an 11:10 flight. When you disembark and catch a taxi you must travel on city streets until you are on a freeway of sorts. 45 minutes is a fair estimate if all goes well. The airport is west of Rome so you do not have to enter the city at all.
Does the ship dock at 7? Normally cruise lines give a docking time not a disembarkation time. If you are overnighting at Civitivecchia you could leave the ship earlier than 7 and make your flight. You probably cannot disembark for at least 30-45 minutes after docking and that is being overly optimistic.
You also should always factor in changes in airport security. At any given moment a normal check in of two hours can easily change to three. Italy suffers from labor strikes and anything from public transportation to airport control can be affected. I am speaking from first hand knowledge here. Italian travel is a challenge.
The train suggested is not a very good idea. To the best of my limited knowledge there is no train from the port to the airport. There is no benefit to taking a train.
Check kayak.com or itasoftware.com for flights that work better or stay in Rome for another glorious day and take your preferred flight.

I've disembarked several times in Rome, 11;10 is too tight for my comfort level. This is not the port to cut it too close. 45-50 minutes to the airport from the port.
That airport is a mess, huge lines, it is difficult to get in the right lines as the counters are poorly marked. Last time we saw an American family denied boarding, they were in the wrong line after being told to get in that line. We were also in the wrong line but sensed something was amiss and we were able to correct ourselves.
After check in you go through security and sometimes you need to take a bus out to the gates.
If your ship is delayed for any reason or slow clearing customs, you will be in trouble.
If you go with the flight time of 11:10, I would suggest private transportation lined up in advance.

We caught an 11:15 flight last year after docking in Rome (Crystal Cruise). We had a driver pick us up at the gangway, so maybe that's the difference. It was a Sunday morning, no traffic, and we made it to the airport in a half hour. Our TA checked with the cruise line to make sure it was acceptable.

Hi Joe,

www.viamichelin.com says it is 0:42 hr by car from the Civitivecchia train stattion to FCO.

You should be at the airport before 09:00 to clear security and then the special security for folks going to the US.

Ther is a distinct possibility that if everything goes right you will make it. However, you will be in Italy.

Good luck.
