My wife and I qualified for our three star pins half way through our most recent cruise last October. Will the symbols of our enhanced status be waiting for us in our cabin when we get there in April or do we have to take the initiative to gain possession of them?

No you should have them in your cabin on your next cruise without asking, but hey if not ask away. You'll will get them. How did you get your two star?

We got our 3 star on our recent Rotterdam cruise - they were attached to the invitation to the Mariner Lunch which was on a sea day toward the end of our 33 days cruise.

As above, the invitation to the Mariner brunch will have them attached. They will not be in your cabin when you arrive. EM

We got ours in our cabin, but maybe because we were in a suite that made a difference, I don't know.

When you first arrived? Like posters #3 and #4, we got ours later in the cruise, just before the Mariner Lunch. Maybe it depends on the ship ... or the steward.

We were in a Deluxe Suite and our 4 star pins were attached to our invitation for the Mariner lunch -- which was in our mail box -- Zuiderdam.

We noticed our star status was printed on our room/ID card when we checked in.

Mariner Star Status is printed on your ID/Key card and is recognized at the time you check in (sometimes). We received our four star pins initially at Mariners Luncheon on Westerdam in November with a small group who were asked to come a bit earlier than the rest.
On our recent Eurodam cruise(s), pins were attached to our Invitation to the Mariners Lunch the first week of our b-to-b's.

Ahhhhh........I received my 2 star attached to my invitation to the luncheon also. I turned to a 3 star on my last cruise.....but didn't receive any change during the trip. I will change to a 4 star part way through my next Grand Voyage. I heard they changed your status on these long cruises during the trip. Not sure if this is in fact the cast since mine didn't change last time. No big deal....just a curiousity!

Not the first day but on the second. Could be that we bug them about the pins on the first day, I don't know but we did get them the next day. There was us and another couple that changed pin status right in the middle of that same cruise, again we ask about getting our new pins on this cruise too, and they obliged us with our new upgraded pins. I guess it never hurts to ask.

I think it's a pretty big deal going from 3 to 4, because you then get free laundry, double discounts, and priority check-in/tendering/debarkation.
If I become eligible for a higher benefit tier while onboard, when can I take advantage of the additional benefits?
For all cruises except Grand Voyages, your elevated benefits will take effect on your next Holland America Line cruise. If you cross a star level threshold while on board a Grand Voyage (based on days sailed), you will be upgraded to your new star level for the remainder of that voyage.

Thanks for reminding me of that policy. I should have checked it out last time...next time I will. There are only about 11 days left of my cruise when I turn 4 star.....but HEY.....that's 11 days!

Kween Karen: I don't think you missed anything. We qualified for three stars on the first half of that cruise with you last October and asked about it shortly after we got home. HAL's negative reply indicates that the Grand Voyage mid-cruise recognition was not yet in effect. Be happy that it will be when you reach the big one (four stars) on your next cruise.
