I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I did a search and nothing comes up.
I've been reading the boards for awhile now and noticed that people comment on bringing cases of water on board. Why is this? Does HA charge for a bottle of water? Is the tap water icky? I'm a cruising virgin so I have no clue about any of this. I guess I'm just assuming I can get water whenever I please. Please tell me I don't have to pack water!!

I am not sure about bottled water, and when or if they sell it or give it, but usually the ship's water is very pure not icky.

The water onboard has always been fantastic. I wondered too before the first time I cruised, but it is always cold and always very fresh!

Yes, there is a charge for bottled water. The tap water tastes fine so there's really no need to drink bottled.

They sell water but we drink the stuff that comes out of the tap - its good! We take refillable bottles that we take on excursions.

The tap water is fine....they are selling water to folks who think bottled is better.....you know what Ringling said.....there's one born every minute!
The ship's water is probably purer than any bottled water (most of which comes from a tap....)
There's absolutely NO NEED to pay for water. Anywhere!

The tap water is fine, and I'm spoiled... I live in Seattle. :) But there are charges for bottled water. Depends on the size and the specific kind you buy.
The only time I personally buy water on board is a bottle of Acqua Panna water with a twist of lime in the Pinnacle Grill. It became a tradition a while back.
I also order the exact same thing every time for those keeping score :)

We have collapsable water bottles that we pack for cruises. We fill them once on the ship from the tap water to take with us on excursions.
The water on the ships is better than what we can get at home.

Wherever I travel, I brink brital travel bottles that filter the water. They remove any strange tastes etc. Available most stores like Target, walmart etc. Will be bringing these on upcoming cruise. :)

I don't think there is much to remove from the ship's water! :)

Then I will use my Brita to hold the wonderful ship water & to filter water when I am off the ship!

That will work. Just remember that Britta won't filter out the bad critters that may lurk in the local water. ;)

I always bring my own water onboard. Many say the water from the tap is fine, but I find it tastes unpleasant, same with water I tried in the MDR. I do have a very sharp sense of smell & taste and only like one brand of water, so I bring it along. I have brought up to 2 cases of water and never had any issue doing so. It makes it convenient when on excursions, I bring a bottle with me. At home I use stainless steel bottles and refill them. But when traveling I want to know I have safe water that does not taste funny.
The ship's bottled water is extremely overpriced.

HAL does charge for bottled water. And they charge for the cans of soda that are in your cabin, too, so be aware of that :) I prefer bottled water, so usually take a 6 pack. On many shorex, water is provided, too, and I'll take that back to the ship if I don't drink it on the shorex. And we will occasionally supplement with the bottled water provided in the cabin (for a cost) on the ship.

I wasn't planning to filter sea or pond water. Pretty sure Bermuda tap water is safe, just may not like the taste. Would be more discerning in Mexico or other islands though.

We bring flavored/no calorie water on board for me; The bottled water for tours etc - there is a cost, I think. The water from the sink is fine too.

I am fine with drinking the water on board if in the lido or MDR, but I absolutely refuse to fill a glass of drinking water from the bathroom sink to drink in my cabin. I have no idea what types of disgusting germs and fecal matter may be lurking on the faucet where people wash their hands after using the toilet. And IMHO the bottled water is WAY overpriced. So I bring along my own for stateroom consumption.
Better safe than sorry!

I feel the same way about the bathroom tap - also who knows what chemicals they use to wipe it down and possibly leave traces on the tap.
We never use the bathroom glasses either.
If we want water we go up to the Lido and bring it back to the cabin.

Just out of curiosity, do you brush your teeth using water from the sink or the water you bring down from the lido? :)

The chemicals you are worried about are actually used far more often in the Lido than they are in your bathroom.
CDC regulations require us to spray and wipe down public water/drink stations far more often (as often as 4 times per hour depending on NLV status) - and with far more dangerous chemicals - than your cabin steward would ever use to clean your tap.

And just what makes you so sure that the Lido water and glasses are cleaner and/or less chemically tainted?

Leaving the ship in ports they will have bottled water if you want to buy/take some ashore as well.
I pack three or four empty water bottles in my checked on luggage. When we want to take water ashore, we fill them in the Lido.
Upon leaving the ship I put them into recycle.............and, there's room in our luggage for some of the souvenirs we seem to accumulate.:D

We always bring our water with us before boarding. 1 case was fine for the 8 day cruise we were on. We also bring a lot of wine with us so we really don't need much water except for the ports.

Your question has been answered very well, but it does remind me of a similar question.
Q: What is the favorite drink at (insert your rival school here)?
A: Perrier and water!
