Will we be limited to what's only offered on the room service door menu (breakfast), or can we add to it? In the past, we've only ordered from the listed offerings. But I thought I read otherwise somewhere on these boards.
Thank you.

The listing on the card is pretty extensive, but you aren't limited to it. If you ask for delivery during the period that the dining room is open, you can ask for anything they offer.

There's a lot of hot, cold and continental options. Little handwritten requests like "Could I get strawberries with the waffles?" for instance which isn't an option or at least wasn't at the time I ordered it were met happily and the guy that delivered it even happily pointed out that they saw the note and pointed to where they were :)

Actually, on the Westerdam last month we wrote in orders for Eggs Benedict with salmon, crab and Canadian bacon (different mornings of course), chocolate croissants and waffles with strawberries and cream, the night before. So, no more having to wait to order the special lil touches and goodies. Write the request in and you will receive. As an aside, we usually asked for our room service meals to be delivered beyween 6 and 6:15 every morning and it would be there closer to 6 a.m.

I should have made myslef clearer.

You do have to fill out your breakfast order form and have it placed out on the door knob by 2 AM.

But if you want anything not listed on the form -- you need to select a time for when the dining room opens officially for the day in order to have some of those special hot items prepared for you.

Good information. So, is eggs benedict always listed on the main dining room breakfast menu? We generally book and outside cabin. This time it's a balcony, and we thought it would be nice to have breakfast out there.
Thank you.

fresh squeezed oj and if we order an early delivery they can't provide it. Some days we order 2 eggs and bacon and 2 w/ sausage and end up with 4 plates w/ both. It's sort of an adventure as to what they will deliver compared to what we order. I won't order regular toast as it's always soggy by the time it's delivered. Stick to bagels or english muffins. The croissants are small.

Maybe she is like a couple of others on here whose wishes are always granted.

We hadn't ordered breakfast to the cabin for years because of a few bad incidents.

On our recent Zuiderdam cruises we did order breakfast to the cabin -- just one day. DH wanted eggs benedict -- for 7 AM -- we were told when they delivered the order that they would bring his eggs benedict after 8 AM when the main dining room opened for breakfast. DH told him to forgot it.

Well, that was also our exerience on the Eurodam recently! It was always an adventure to see what we got vs. what we ordered. One morning we received steak and eggs instead of the regular menu items (eggs and meusli). Another time we got half of what we ordered but our friends next door got double of everything - which they shared with us.

Having any breakfast deliveerd to be enjoyed on the balcony is still delightful. :)

on our last cruise, we also ordered breakfast to be delivered.
it was always on time and delicious.
mainly stuck to the main menu but will try adding the odd item or two this trip around:)
the only 'down' side was the size of the table (we had an outside cabin) so DH ate there and I ate at the make up mirror area

they always delived 15-30 minutes before we requested it so many items weren't available. I preferred it when they called that they were on the way. Just another service dropped.

My first HAL cruise was in 2007 and have never experienced them calling that breakfast was on its way.

Would steak and eggs be too extravagant as an off menu request?

Apparently not since we got it one morning without even having ordered it! ;)

I sincerely hope that we can add to the regular menu, but don't know if they'll be THIS flexible: to-be 4-yo grandson has decided that the best part of his first-ever cruise in June will be to order room service ice cream for breakfast :)

I don't think that you will be able to order ice cream for breakfast. Even the Lido area doesn't open for ice cream until 11:30 AM.

We enjoy our room service breakfast and have learned to be very clear about how many of each item we want. Also, as stated by IRL_Joanie if you order an early delivery expect it to be even a few minutes earlier than the fifteen minute time frame listed - especially on disembarkation day. We used to go to the Lido for the last breakfast before leaving the ship but it is so crowded, tough to find a seat and now we always have breakfast in our room before we leave the ship. Much more relaxed!

I don't have the 24 hour room service menu handy but I think ice cream may be available all the time....... Does he really eat ice cream for breakfast? What does he like for lunch? :D

And, if it melts, just stir a spoonful into your coffee instead of using cream.

Actually a GREAT breakfast is oatmeal with vanilla ice cream on it. If you think that sounds "just wrong" as my brother said, TRY IT! You'll be hooked.;)

Actually both my grandsons (4 and 6 by June) are great eaters and will try anything, so it will be no problem. The younger, though, is an ice cream "maniac", and one day they found out that when on a sleep-over they can twist Nana around their finger to get ice cream for breakfast. Now he thinks it's a treat for special occasion breakfasts, which certainly includes his first cruise!

Has anyone ever tried ordering a pot of Cappucino instead of coffee for breakfast?

dcsam
March 6th, 2010, 11:07 AM
Mmmm.... How nice it would be to order espresso instead of the standard *#@! pot of coffee. Don't know if that's possible, however. Maybe somebody here can tell us.

On last year's sailing to Alaska on the Volendam, most mornings we had room service breakfast and it was always spot on. We ordered a pot of coffee at 6:00 and our breakfast order for 7:30. We wrote in eggs bennie and fresh berries with cream. Those were the best berries I've ever had (coming from Vancouver in late May, YUM)! Fresh blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries...........sigh.......:D

it may be possible IMO to get the espresso but I wonder about the cappucino as it is espresso with foamed or steamed milk on top (?)

guess it doesn't hurt to try!
