Has anyone booked a specific cabin later to be upgraded to a different cabin? I know you can book a guarantee catagory with out a specific chosen room with the hopes of being upgraded but I am wondering if it has ever happened to someone who had chosen a specific cabin.
thanks

Very rare, but I've seen it happen.

This happened to us awhile back on our cruise to Hawaii.

It is such a rarity, that I wouldn't even let the thought pass my mind.;) That being said, if you booked an interior you could be put into an ocean view if an ocean view room was changed to a balcony and if....you get the picture?

It has happened to us once in the past from a standard verandah to Concierge Class.

We were upgraded a couple of weeks out from an aft balcony to a sky suite in 2004 aboard the Summit. Celebrity called our travel agent and made the offer. That was the only time it happened but it sure was fun. Unfortunately I came down with pneumonia and ended up spending 7 out of the 11 days in the ship hospital. The hospital bill would have paid for the Penthouse suite. I did recieve wonderful care though and was very greatful for the medical staff onboard. Only 222 days until the Solstice. I can hardly wait!
Cheers,

It happened to us on the Constellation several years back. Booked a specific midship balcony cabin and they upgraded us without our knowledge to a CC balcony. The travel agent at the time notified us of the upgrade when the docs came to him first. The CC cabin had a somewhat obscured view with a window washing apparatus in the way. I was not happy at first but it all worked out ok.

Yes this is a problem for people that jump at an apparent upgrade offer. We were offered one once, not a free one. But at a minimal $$ amount. However when I wanted to know the exact room number, the TA came back with a room in a location we definitely did not want. Even tho it was supposedly a higher category. Turned it down. You really have to be careful when offered a change for little or no cash.

That would be my fear and that is why I asked. I like to pick my room to avoid a location I will be satisfied with.

I have never done this, but have heard that you can flag your reservation with "Do Not Upgrade", if you are worried about location. I have been upgraded twice; in Dec 2009 on the Xpedition we found out only after boarding that we had been moved to an XS [Xpedition Suite] rather than an XO.

We weren't asked. The documents just came that way and X said it was too late to change back to the original cabin as it had been reassigned. That is why I was ticked. It was still midship, though.

You weren't asked? Oh, I would have put up a stink! It had to have gone thru your TA, unless you had just some kind of guaranteed category which isn't what you had. You hand picked your cabin. No way would I use that TA again. Sounds like he gave the okay to pull you out of the cabin.

Yes, it can happen. Whenever we are in an M-class aft cabin we always request not to be upgraded. A couple of years ago we were upgraded at the last minute on the Galaxy from a much coveted CC cabin (which we had reserved a year in advance) to a sky suite. The sky suite was larger but had a smaller balcony and was in a very good location so ultimately we were pleased. However, if you have a cabin that you really like I would definitely request not to be upgraded.
