We have 2 cat B balcony cabins booked on the Ryndam. They offered us an upsale for the Penthouse suite for an additional 3500. If this is still available at the pier would it be cheaper? Or should we just hang tight with the 2 Bs? We are a family of 4. Thanks!

It might be cheaper at the pier ... or you might get a lower offer before then ... or they might find a taker soon. You might try a counter-offer ... sometimes that works.

I doubt if it will be cheaper at the pier. In fact I know someone who inquired about a cabin that was available once they got to the pier -- they were quoted a higher price -- full fare if they wanted to upgrade to that cabin.

What would you counter offer? Our cruise is already over $6k for the 2 balcony rooms. And our ship leaves in less than a month. If they offered 3500, do you think they would consider less? They told us that was 50% off current listed to upgrade.

If you aren't interested in the upgrade, they'll offer it to someone else. I doubt if any upgrades are available on the day of sailing.

In case I am mistaken, are you being asked to swop both veranda cabins for the Penthouse?
If that is the case then the cruise line may need the two cabins quite badly and I would suggest that you make them a counter offer that you would be happy to live with.

That is the case. I checked our sailing and there are no more balconies available. What would be a fair counter, though?

I might offer something like $1500 ... maybe HAL would take it if they need your balconies badly enough. And, maybe they'll come back and offer the PH to you for $2200 or $2500 or whatever. If they think they have a taker, they may be willing to negotiate down that $3500.

Figure out what the maximum it is worth to you ... what you would be happy to do it for ... and offer that. If you offer more and get it, you'll be kicking yourself for not offering less ... or at least wondering if you could have gotten it for less.

That's a difficult question to answer as it realy depends on what you can afford to get the extra amenities that go with the Penthouse. Personally I would offer $500 or $1000 max, but other people would jump at it for the full $3500.
As I said before, it is all up to what you wish to do and what you can afford. If it means that you would have to cut back on excursions etc. to pay for it, then it probably is not worth while.
Best of luck with this and please let us know how you get on.

I think 3,500 dollars sounds high for an upsale even for the PH, but need more info, like how long is your cruise, what would be the normal PH price for your cruise?

I'm looking at the description, and it says the king size bed, and one sofa bed for two people. Did you book two cabins for yourself and two children? If so, will they be able to sleep together? EM

I contacted them back and offered 1500 but they had sold the penthouse. However, they offered us a suite for the 2 balcony cabins, but I think Im better off keeping the 2 balconies. Its the same sq ftage but this way we get two bathrooms.
