Here's a link to some pictures I took of the NL on the Noordam. I also took some photos of some of the food.

From our cruise on the Noordam in 2009...

Opening Hours:
7:00am - 8:30pm

Food Service:

Continental breakfast 7:00am - 11:00am
(Fruit, croissants, Danish pastries, cinnamon rolls, toast (there's a toaster), OJ, Cranberry Juice, Cappuccino, iced tea, ice water) There was a huge selection of sliced fruits in the morning...from bananas (in a sweet liquid), to kiwi, papaya, mixed diced fruits, watermelon and more.

Midday snacks 11:00am - 3:00pm

Afternoon tea 3:00pm - 5:00pm

Canapιs 5:00pm - 8:15pm

During these hours I saw the following: Sliced cheeses, egg salad on mini-bagels, shaved cucumber on mini-bagel, tuna salad on mini-bagels, desserts (a wide variety), cookies, white and dark chocolate candies, fresh whole fruits, marble and plain pound cake, sliced beef roll ups, tomatoes with mozzarella cheese, and many, many more items.

The Neptune Lounge is available to all passengers booked in Deluxe Suites -- PS, SA, SB and SC.

In the morning you can get iced orange juice, iced water and depending on the ship -- another iced juice. There is also a machinr where you can get coffee, special coffees (like late's and capcaciino's) and hot water for whatever kind of hot tea you want.

Food -- Continental breakfast from 7 AM until about 11 AM -- pastries, fresh fruit, meats, cheeses, cold cereal -- and most ships have now added a toaster where you can toast bagels, bread and English Muffins.

From 11 AM until 5 PM there will be serveral differnt tea sandwiches, wraps, cookies, cookies -- and the special coffee machine will still be working -- and the orange juice will be replaced with cranberry juice. And most ships will have a couple of choices of pound cake.

From 5 PM until closing -- around 8:15 PM you will be able to get cold appetizers and crudites -- as well as coffees.

The cappucino machine is my FAVORITE feature! :)

My husband's as well!! On the Oosterdam, there was a problem with the Cappuccino machine and the crew technician worked on it for the better part of the day. When he was finished & had it up and running again, my hubby & one other Neptune patron & cappucino-lover gave him a nice tip. The technician remarked to the concierge in the Neptune Lounge how thoughtful it was for them to do so, and that in his years aboard ship, no one had ever even thanked him, let alone tipped him. He was so happy! Kinda made us feel even better than we already did on board that beautiful ship.

Also - don't you just love their yogurt and granola topped with fresh fruit, and served in martini glasses for breakfast each morning?? Yum!! :D

The Neptune Lounge is one of the reasons I love HAL so much! When we were on the Alaska cruise, I spent a good portion of the day going back and forth getting my favorite coffee to enjoy while watching scenery from the balcony! It really did a good job warming up my hands and tasted sooo good. Can't wait to enjoy it again!!!

Some of the ships that we have been on did not have the dark chocolates.

The dark chocolates are my favorite -- and they are healthier.

suites only. but don't worry, those of us in steerage can get most of the same items in the buffet. the deluxe coffee is pretty affordable at the coffee bar.

It is just for those staying in the Deluxe Suites -- PS, SA, SB and SC categories only.

Might add that the Neptune Lounge is not a bar or lounge in the drinking sense. Other than special events, like a welcoming cocktail party, there is no alcohol of any kind served in the Neptune Lounge.

People have said they hang out in the Neptune lounge are the "steerage" people allowed in during off food times?

There is food all day. They change what is offered three or four times during the day.

Only Suite guests have access to Neptune Lounge. Those staying in Category "PS, S, SA, SB, and SC".

No. The Neptune Lounge concierge(s) are typically excellent and if they don't know you the first time you walk in they will the next time. They are polite but I have seen them ask people who don't belong there to leave. Only once have I seen a passenger who wasn't in a qualifying suite raise a "stink" when asked to leave and even then the concierge handled it well.

Obviously you missed post #3: (No break time -- food all the time the lounge is open : 7 AM until around 8:15 PM)

We don't hang out there all day -- why would you want to hang out there if you are not in a PS, SA, SB or SC (which have been listed here a couple of times)?

In 2003 on the Maasdam our concierge had a bad situation with a couple who declared that according to the brochure they were in a verandah cabin which entititled them to use the Neptune Lounge. They were there all the time.

When the R and S class ships went through their Signature of Excellence program, those doors on the Neptune Lounge should have been changed so that you could only enter the Neptune Lounge via your ID card -- just like on the Vista class and Signature class ships.

We have had to use our room key to access the Neptune Lounge, so I would say that no, unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to gain access. :( It is indeed, a wonderful perk and the concierge personnel are just the best.

It's not just about the food, or the free specialty coffees - the concierge personnel can handle everything from booking shore excursions to making dining arrangements, to arranging a "special occasion" party in your suite to checking your ship board account. We never have to visit the main desk for anything. That is what we enjoy most about the Neptune. :)

And yes - after your first visit, they call you by name each time you enter. They are indeed a fabulous asset to Holland America.

The Neptune Lounge is like the Club Lounge in a 5 star hotel. The things I loved about the Concierge in the Neptune Lounge on the Prinsendam. They changed or dollars in to the local currency, got stamps & mailed our post cards, took care of booking our spa services, shore excursions and the Pinnacle Grill and contacted the car service in Athens to let them know what time to pick us up at the end of our cruise.
