View Full Version : Just curious...HAL hours of bar, food and room service?

Just out of curiosity, what hours are the bars open on HAL ships? I would assume not 24 hours, am I correct? Also, what time generally are food services open? Can you really and truly always get food, or do they shut down at some point to "restock" for breakfast and the next day? If these are both shut, can you still order from room service, or does that stop at a certain hour too?
Sorry if this is a repeat question, I couldn't find a thread on it. I am becoming the family "cruise expert", and my DH asked me this one and stumped me! If it makes a difference, we will be on the Rotterdam, on the Med.
Thank you!

IIRC the first bar opens at 10:00 A.M., and the last one closes about 1:00 A.M. If there is a crowd at the Casino Bar, or in the Piano Bar it may stay open later.
Room service is available 24 hours/day with a limited menu. Full meals are available from Room Service during meal hours.
Dining Room times vary based on port/sea day. (There may be other variables, too.) Usually it opens for breakfast about 7:00 A.M. and closes about 8:30.
Lunch is about 12:30-1:30.
Dinner is at 5:45, 6:15, 8:00, and 8:30.
Lido breakfast starts around 6:30 or 7:00 and ends at 10:00. (This one I'm sure of since I usually make it by a minute or two!) Continental breakfast continues until 10:30.
Lido lunch starts at 11:30 and continues until about 1:30 or 2:00. Limited lunch selections of hamburgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, pizza continue until 5:00.
Dinner is 6:00 P.M.-7:30 or so.
And then there's the "midnight" buffet. Goes from about 11:30 P.M.-12:30 A.M.
The ice cream bar is open various hours. Popcorn can be had before the movie starts. Cookies and snacks are available at the Java bar for more hours than I can count.
All the hours are listed in the daily program. If you check it just before bedtime you can make plans for the next day.
Suffice it to say that if you get hungry it's your own fault! :D

On my last cruise on the Oosterdam in November, I noticed that the Lido's breakfast hours varied.
It opened earlier on port days or when we were at HMC.
I'm an early riser, and there were days I had to wait 1/2 hour for breakfast!
We closed down the piano bar one morning at 1:30 ...

Check your daily program for the hours of operations for bars, food, etc.
Times will vary according to whether it is a port day or a sea day.
On port days, there may be only 1 or 2 bars open until the ship leaves the port when more will open. On sea days more bars open early and stay open late.
Food - again depending on what time the ship is due in a port depends on when the Lido will open for breakfats and how long it will stay open. Even lunch hours in the Lido may vary while in port.
The main dining room will also vary times according to port times. There may even be a day or two when the main dining won't be open for lunch.
The evening dining room times will not change.

One of the things I love about these boards is how patient everyone is with the questions that MUST get repeated over and over....and the fact that there is always someone who answers! You guys are great :)
