All cabins on all HAL ships have hair dryers. While they are fine for short hair, I have heard many say that they are not strong enough for longer or thicker hair. I find they are fine, but you may want to take your own.

On some of the ships HAL is placing hair dryers in drawers. On the Statendam, the old hair dryer was still in the bathroom. In the suite there was a new powerful one in the drawer in the dressing. Loved it.

Hope they replace all hair dryers in all cabins with that type.

On our recent Rotterdam sailing, we had a separate hair dryer in the vanity drawer. Powerful, with several settings. Interestingly, it had the European style plug.

On our 12/04 Statendam circle of Hawaii cruise, our balcony cabin (B) had a regular hair dryer in the drawer as well as the old kind in the bathroom. Happy Sailing!

I just came back from the Volendam and yes there was a hair dryer in the drawer. Much easier also to dry your hair in the room than in the washroom. The cord is long and it allowed me to get ready while DH was in the shower. The old style dryer in the bathroom was still there and gets really hot after a few minutes. We were in an inside cabin.

Our cabin on the Zuiderdam had a hair dryer in a cabinet at the dressing table. I have thick hair and the darn thing just couldn't dry my hair at all. Fortunately, I brought my travel dryer which is more powerful.

The old kind were terrible..... they never got my hair dry, and ended up burning your hands! Hope they have new ones on the Rotterdam by now!

We had two cabins on the Westerdam and the hair dryers were equally poor in both cabins. They both blew a mild stream of tepid air. My daughter claimed she could dry her hair faster by sticking her head out the veranda door.

The dryers were in a drawer, so they may be the new "salon style" dryers that HAL is bragging about, but these two dryers were terrible.
After reading about the new dryers, for the first time in decades she did not pack her own. Last time that will happen! The cruise was otherwise perfect, so at least we had something to complain about!!!

I found nothing wrong with the new hair dryer in the drawer on the Statendam. I think sometimes we are used to our own preferred style of hair dryer and if so, you should definitely pack it as all hair dryers are different. Happy Sailing!

I agree that the Zuiderdam hair dryers were not strong enough to dry my thick hair, but I always need a very strong hair dryer. Also, the placement in the cabinet was awkward for me (lefty).

Rotterdam Caribbean 11/04 had the new dryers in our outside cabin. Worked great, but stopped working after 2nd use. Was replaced promptly by our room steward after I left him a note. Old one is still in the bathroom. Used to use it occasionally in the past, but had to use a damp washcloth wrapped around the hose to keep my hand cool! Amazing how hot it got where you held it and not the actual air that blew out of it!
