Is anyone else been having problems with errors and really slow response from the boards the last few days? I have had problems both at home and work.

Very slow! I think there is a spy lurking in our hard drive - perhaps more than 1.

Yes, although it's better today than it was yesterday. I use an old Mac here at work, though, so I thought it was my machine.

Very, very slow for the past week. I also often get the message below. Hope the problem is fixed soon.

"There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh (javascript:window.location=window.location;) button in your browser.
An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff (webmaster@cruisecritic.com), who you can also contact if the problem persists.

Yes it is very slow and sometimes says to "refresh", which doesn't work either.

Gee ... I've had no problems. In fact, things seems to be faster than ever.

JUST KIDDING! I've also had problems for two days.

No problems here at the house with fiber optic connectivity. On the road I am use to slower connections via SATMex5 satellite and most likely would not notice.

I am on cable here at home. Things usually fly, but the CC site has been really slow the past three days with several times needing to refresh or completely losing posts! Driving me batty! (Oh wait, I already am. I leave in 3 days!!!!)

I've been refreshing my errors for days now and it's getting to be more than a bit frustrating. (Not known for my patience. )
This is happening both at work and at home. Even hit the e-mail link last night, for all the good it did! I don't want an "apology"---I want it "fixed"!
About to whip out Mr. Chainsaw!!! :D

I just noticed that the layout of the index to the boards has changed. Wonder if they've been tweaking software for the last few days?

I noticed the tweak. And I also have been getting error messages.

I thought it was the computer [I'm at work].

Yup, me too! As I emailed Lisa earlier today it's been really dragging for me. I sent the "tech staff" an email.

This happened once before and I think it was Walt who suggested we use a slightly different web address because there are 2 servers and sometimes 1 isn't working so well but the other is. Anyone remember that?

ColoradoJuli
January 5th, 2005, 05:44 PM
Looks like they have made some changes. Hopefully everything will get back to 'normal'. I am guessing that they were doing database updates and consequently it brought the processing speed of the server down and we all experienced the lack of speed. Don't know, but am hoping that they are done with upgrades. It would be nice if they would post a general message when they do updates so we are out here wondering if it is just me.

Yes - I'm on cable and it seems slower to me too. PLUS I cannot get onto Holland America's home page at all. I can get on their HALPROMOS site but not their home page at www.hollandamerica.com - very weird.

Every site seems to be on SLOOOW!

I need to print boarding passes tomorrow and if things go the way they have been going today, I can give that idea up.

I was finally able to get on the site, it was just for about 1/2 hour that it would not come up.

Yes, although it's better today than it was yesterday. I use an old Mac here at work, though, so I thought it was my machine.

I was having mega problems with the boards yesterday, including one post that got completely deleted. I thought it was my ISP at first ... but then I just went on another website and saw the response time was fine there. I think there's some sort of a problem even today. The boards were very slow earlier this afternoon, but are slightly improved tonight.

Blue skies ...

It's so terrible today! It was fine later last night and this morning. Now it's a disaster. Sometimes I type a post and get that "database problem" page. At one point I was posting, copying it into an email before hitting "submit" so I wouldn't lose it.

Wonder what happened because it was fine this morning.

Heather that is funny because I just did the same thing. I would type it into the reply thread then copy to an email then hit submit. I lost 2 other posts this after till I started to do that.

Uh-oh! Relapse.

I bombed out twice posting to this thread tonight (and one can only guess what will happen when I hit "submit" this time).

THe problems appear to coincide with higher traffic times - must be all those folks who got cruise tix for Christmas trying to sign on to get the inside scoop!

Here's one way to make it less of a hassle, though:

1) compose message
2) Hit the submit button
3) Eat a chocolate, bon bon or truffle
4) If message still not posted, go to step 3.

I think these slow boards are beginning to get to all you sillies!!! :D

Lisa! Are we smart or what? Same thing with me. After I lost a couple of posts I decided to do the little trick. And ever since I started that I haven't lost any. It figures.

I haven't even stayed on here at all because it's just not worth it:( .

January 6th, 2005, 08:50 PM
Actually, when you copy text to the clipboard it stays there until you copy something else or turn your computer off. No need to paste it into an e-mail or word processor ... unless you're saving it for later in the day or something like that.

HeatherInFlorida
January 6th, 2005, 08:55 PM

Clipboard? I'm confused. What do you mean copy to the clipboard?

Actually it only takes 2 seconds to copy to "write" in email. I don't actually send it.

jhannah
January 6th, 2005, 09:00 PM
The clipboard is that place within your computer's memory where copied text is stored. It's in the background.

When you highlight text, then choose "copy" from the menu. or press the ctrl-C key combination, the highlighted text is copied to the clipboard (an area in memory). When you press ctrl-V, or choose "paste" from a menu, the text on the clipboard is copied to the place marked by your cursor.

Yeah!!!! The board is up to super fast speed this morning:D

Or is it that I am just excited that DH is coming home late this afternoon:p He thought he would be gone another week but they told him yesterday he could come home today.

Looks like it will be a great day on the boards and home except for the RAIN:( I am starting to feel water logged in the desert. Maybe Las Vegas will become a Port City:eek:

HeatherInFlorida

They're not running superfast for me so I think it's the excitement making you nuts. Good news!

But I'm still having trouble with the slow boards ... not as bad as last night, though.
