Has anyone been on the amsterdam lately?
I just wanted a quick one day cruise from Vancouver to Seattle, I have only been on Oosterdam with HAL and just wondering if it is worth going on this ship just to get away?

It's a great ship, but such a short cruise would be too much of a tease, and I would hate getting off.:)

I am looking at an Amsterdam cruise and also much prefer HALs smaller ships over the Vista class ships having also sailed the Oosterdam.
We have sailed the Maasdam and the Rotterdam so please tell me more about why you particularly like the Amsterdam, and what other HAL ships are you comparing her too. Thanks.

Amsterdam is a grand 'ol ship. My favorite so far :DOnly 10 years old, but old style. My DW's favorite ship.

Thanks. We've never been on the Rotterdam, but I believe it is very similar to the Amsterdam. They're co-flagships, and about the same age.

Does she have a Piano Bar?
No, she doesn't. :( She does have a lovely Piano Lounge, but it's a different atmosphere than a real piano bar.

Amsterdam is the only HAL ship I have been on, so far..... My family went on the Oosterdam last summer and it is their favorite ship, so far.... We all were on the FOS and it was our kids favorite. My favorite part was that it did not "feel" crowded and the excellent service. My extended family said the exact same thing about the Oosterdam. I did not find it was populated by old foggies, but rather a mixture of families. Because of the small size, the crew soon learned everybodys name and even drink preferences. We felt really pampered and well cared for. I love the lido deck and the library. The buffet was exceptional while the food in the main dining room was a little to fancy and rich for my taste; everyone else in both parties loved all the food. The kids fav was the lido deck grill. The ice cream in the buffett was the best ever! I also spent alot of time on deck 5? where the outside covered deck wrapped arround the ship. The only down side was the occasional cigarrette smoke on that deck; and in all the public areas of the ship like the casino. I had to avoid all those areas, but was able to see them as soon as we boarded as we borded early before it was filled with smoke. My family agrees, we really like the crew on the HAL lines better then the caribbean region. I want to try the Celebrity line because of their smoking policy, but I think my heart will always belong to my first cruise. ;)

The sign is proudly displayed on my kitchen wall---where I see it every day. :D
Things in Warwick are not good. :( My basement is totally flooded, and I am #1000 on the list to be pumped out. My gas is shut off, so there is no heat or hot water.
And the public sewage treatment plant is shut down. No showers, no washers, no flushing of toilets.
I need a cruise.

I'm looking forward to reports on the ship, and the trip. I'll be on the last Bermuda cruise, so there will be plenty of time for any problems to be worked out.
Have a great time.

Ruth - I just read your posts. I am so sorry that you (and what appears to be all of R.I.) are under water. May you have your utilities and your life returned to normal ASAP.
Best wishes.

Thank you. This is a mess for me, but there are so many people who are even worse off. We need some sunshine!
