with oil hovering around the $80/barrel mark lately, do you think the fuel surcharge will be reinstated?
would it change your plans if HAL did?

Hope not as I get onboard on Saturday!
I think it may have to hold at higher level for a bit more before the cost of the fuel will outweigh the potential loss of pax due to surcharge pricing.

Seeing as it is doubtful any of us know if they will institute fuel surcharge, all we can do is guess.
If they institute a surcharge, we'll pay it. We certainly won't cancel our cruises.

We would be pissed...as when we did our Hawaii cruise we had to pay it and the next cruise it was taken off...Our cruise is in 2 weeks...hope it doesn't happen just before this cruise....we would still go and pay it.

We are going on a 35 day cruise, would cost over $700 for the two of us. Please do not remind them of this!!!!!

I would not cancel a booking...I am leaving on Sunday.....but if I knew there was a fuel surcharge on one cruise line and not on an other , I would look at going with no surcharge.

I certainly don't want to pay more than I have to, but do support whatever decisions keep Holland America in business.

Cruise lines would lose a lot of revenue because of lack of bookings .Their best bet is to include it in their total cost of cruising . I personally hate any surcharges as I think of them as rip offs vs knowing my total cost up front . JMVHO

The cruise lines buy future contracts. When oil was very cheap, they were buying future contracts. Until those contracts run out, they won't implement the fuel surcharge. My guess is that they have another six months before they are affected. Future cruises will be afftected so people purchasing cruises in the summer could be affected.

I think that's true. I don't think the fuel surcharge would be implemented until next year since the present contracts go until December 30th.
We've had to pay the fuel surcharge in the past. I simply included it in our budget. I'd do the same again rather than cancel a cruise.

Please delete this entire thread.
Corporate HAL lurkers read these CC boards. They don't need reminding of their despicable fuel surcharge.

I agree, and include the daily 'hotel charge' as one such surcharge.

already takes the higher fuel cost into it. No need for a surcharge.

I spoke with my TA about this question yesterday.( Please don't flame me. I needed to know.) She called HAL and asked them directly. She was told and I quote " At the present time HAL has no plans to reinstate the fuel surcharge, however, if the cost of fuel oil continues to rise, we may have to rethink this position."
