This will be my first cruise with HAL and am considering an aft cabin on the Rotterdam deck 7 - specifically cabin 7143. Is this a good location or would you recommend a different deck. My past cruises have been with Princess - always an aft cabin.

If you like aft cabins, the location and deck are fine.
We prefer mid-ship cabins on Rotterdam Deck.
Just a matter of individual preferences.
Hope you enjoy Eurodam as much as we have. We think her a terrific ship and sailed her two weeks last year. Had such a good time, we returned for two more weeks in February.
By all means, plan to dine in Tamarind at least one evening. Outstanding.

I was on the Eurodam last year, and I was very impressed. I was on HAL ships about 4 months last year, and the Eurodam experience was the best, in fact it was pretty much perfect. I'm sure you will be pleased with your room no matter where it is.

I am sure I will have a great time and will definitely try the Tamarind Restaurant. Our trip is in May - Barcelona to Dover!!

I hope you will post your impressions of your cruise when you get home. We are doing this itinerary on the Eurodam in May, 2011.
This will be our third cruise. The first one was on the Rotterdam and the second on the Prinsendam.
The Eurodam will be the largest ship we have been on and I'm not sure we would have chosen it if it were only the two of us. However, we will be cruising with my two brothers-in-law and their wives. One has never cruised before and the other three have done one Caribbean cruise, on a different line.
I do think we will all enjoy the Eurodam as there seems to be something for everyone.
I'm excited about this cruise already and it's more than a year away!!
Have a wonderful time.

It would be helpful to me also for comments on aft cabins. For those who do like them, why?

It would be helpful to me also for comments on aft cabins. For those who do like them, why? Most people who like them say something about how nice it is watching the wake. I do not like them because there is nothing else to see besides the wake and ships/islands long since passed. I love to watch port arrivals and departures from my verandah, and that's not very possible from a stern cabin. Even if you're standing at the railing you get a very limited view. (I'm not talking here about corner suites where you can get a side view.)
Also, our only stern VB cabin was on deck four, and suffered from a lot of vibration.

We were in 5180 last fall for a Canada/New England Cruise and it was wonderful. Nice and quite and a great location and a perfect room for us two. It wasn't an aft cabin but close.

My first and only cruise was in an aft cabin, I fell in love with cruising from that aft..the wake, is beautiful...but our ship seem to back into every port so we had a first class seat every single time...then leaving we were able to get such fantastic photos of the islands we had just visited..quiet, and when your cabin is sandwiched between to cabin floors we did not feel very much in the way of vibration unless we were pulling into port..here are a few photos of what we would see, and would not have seen if we were not aft..and on the "wrong" side of the ship

Our first cruise was the on the Emerald Princess - a 12 day cruise from Rome to Venice. We had an aft cabin. This ship also backed in. I cannot tell you how beautiful it was to sail away from Santorini, Mykonos and Monte Carlo. These were beautiful ports. I am hoping I will see the same on this next cruise as well!

Thanks for those photos. I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I am in SC (in corners) and was worried about not being midship in case I don't get an upgrade offer.
