Summer ~ I hope this won't hinder your crepe consumption!! That would be truly tragic! Can they run any further tests to be certain before you go?

Julie

Oh summer- I hope not for you- my brother was allergic to gluten! Good news is so many items today are made gluten free and lots of people are allergic like you! The blood tests can tell them for sure- I had one and luckly was not allergic.

Kathy, I wasn't happy with DWS results either. Sorry about your dress having missing beads.

Summer, what kind of hats do you buy? I'm good with a baseball cap. LOL

Agree what gives with DWTS? Hope and Nancy must go -YES MUST GO!!!

I don't even know where my Wild Turkey shirt is. I don't even know what suitcase I'm using. I don't even have a suit yet. I haven't gone and tried on bathing suits to make sure they fit alright and aren't sliding off my butt! I haven't made a list yet. I haven't (other then the Wild Turkey shirt that Kim ordered) purchased a single item for this cruise.

Appears to me I'm just gonna wing it last minute!!! WOOHOO!!!

Alex

I am with you Alex- have no idea what I am packing- but your friend Jim has decided on everything- and bugging me to start packing- maybe this weekend..

We had 9 inches of snow today on the west side of the Denver metro area- now it is 11 degrees- looking at our beautiful new ship made this natsy weather seem unimportant. I was able to work from home a couple hours then headed into the office for a meeting later morning...

Maybe we need to start voting on DWTS - to get Nancy or Hope OUT -

packing? ok - in my mind I am done -
I am such a last min person - and Narce keeps telling me I am retired and have all the time in the world - not so... I must admit, I goof off a lot.

Patty- I guess my room, Dee's and Kim's are opposite of where you and Sue are - gorgeous looking ship!

Can't wait - I am so excited!! carol

Don't worry I'm sure Alex will be properly packed before the car comes. We went shopping for a new suit tonight with no success. I may go tomorrow and just buy something that we can take to the tailor for adjustments - gotta get that done. Alex hates to shop and I like to make sure we are finding the best option so this will be fun.

LOL Kim, Alfredo's the same way. he HATES shopping.. going with him to get clothes is torture.... for *me* :D He needs a new pair of sneakers, and some new shorts, and we went to Sawgrass Mills mall which has about 500 stores and is HUGE, and we still came home empty handed with stuff for him, he's SO picky! LMAO.

Luckily his suits are already taken care of. Since we cruise enough, we always have at least one that's useable ;)

Again at 2:45 in the morning up and can't sleep. Wish we were already on the ship, then when I can't sleep, I can always take a walk around and maybe head to the casino, bar, or something

Packing already started, happy that all our formal stuff and then some (minus the new things that I just bought :D) are already safely hanging up in the closet in NY just waiting to be put into the suitcase. Since I like to use packing cubes, it's easy to pack ahead of time and just throw the cubes into the suitcase at the last minute. Will try to get the rest of the stuff somewhat organized within the next few days to see what last minute shopping I can/need to do :)

Trying to catch up on my TiVo'd shows so that it's nice and clean and ready for the month that I'll be away between the cruise and my best friend's wedding. LOL. Dunno, watching Criminal Minds in the middle of the night, something about that seems wrong LOL.

Just finished watching the DWTS results show, even though I knew who got kicked off, I agree with the rest of you, NO WAY should it have been David. Nancy definitely was the worst by far this week, with Hope not too far behind!

Enough of my rambling. Thanks all for the beautiful pics of the Silly! I can't wait to meet everyone... officially only 15 more days!!!

Yes that is right, there is only

WOOHOO.............15 days!!!!! 9 more wake ups for work!!!!

I think we're off to Delaware this weekend. Friends of ours moved there and they really want us to come visit for the weekend so not sure if we'll be driving down on Friday night or Saturday morning. Looks like the weather is going to be nice for the weekend too.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Yeah, clothes shopping for me is a bit torturous. I just want to pick a suit, try it on and go if it fits. Kim is telling me this one is the wrong color, pin stripes aren't good, the ones at this store look cheap, etc. Hell, I wouldn't know. Or care. I just want to get something and have it over with!!

Why is it that my work always seems to be crazier heading into a big vacation? I really am not up for it right now - I'd like to just cruise into my cruise if you know what I mean! Although I suppose all this work craziness will help me to get my money's worth out of that drink package!! http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/12.gif

My cousin e-mailed from Upperstate Ny and said they'll be dropping by for a couple of days on their way to Fla for the winter. Which is what they usually do ..but they will be coming by on the 13th.. The last couple of days before we go on a cruise Richard is soo busy with his company that he makes many trips to Va. so he won't be able to visit much because of the 1 hr tip into Va ...time there and trip back...so I used one of my bonus weeks in Interval International and got a timeshare on Va. Beach. Soooo
the car will be packed..the house clean and closed when we leave for Va. Beach on Sunday the 13th. They will meet us there and we'll spend a few days together looking at the ocean...they leave on the 16th..we leave to join the "Springhill Gang" on the 17th and our son Christopher and his family will come down and stay a couple of nites on the beach until check-out time on Sunday!! So it looks like we will be starting to look out on the ocean almost a week ahead of time:D

I'm convinced men have the anti-shopping gene in them, not all, but most when it comes to clothes. Amazing how quickly they can pick & choose & exit the store.
Shopping can be an extra curricular activity for women. Very good therapy at times too!

If anyone wants to go to a different island let me know. I'll knock 3 times on the roof of the bridge. :)

Bummer - can't see our stateroom - it's on the other side!! (port side I believe).

I agree, Nancy or Hope should have gone home - Nancy was really bad!!!

I'm disappointed there wasn't any mention on any of the news about our beautiful new ship arriving stateside!!! So sick of hearing about the Kardashians and murderers, and government cheats -- they could have at least given a minute or two to something fun and beautiful!!

I also have to catch up on all my recorded programs so I have a clean slate when I leave - don't want to miss some of my favorites!!

Am going to do my best today to finalize the dinner clothes - really don't want to take the bigger suitcase!! I'm pretty well set with shorts/tees/swimsuits!! It's the other things that are making me crazy (well crazier than I normally am ;) !!)

First, I laughed when I saw your "man shopping" caption.....thought you were trying to buy one! ;)

Both John and our son have that anti-shopping gene! We have a wedding next week in Vegas and I had to beg and plead to get our son to go and buy a new suit. He's also very picky so that shopping trip was torture but we found one. Of course it had to have alterations at the tailor.....he finally went to pick it up yesterday and I asked him if he tried it on.....of course not! I give up......

Anyone else doing some last minute shopping!?

I've been checking out picking up a few more hats....well apparently, the popularity of a certain British royal has made the stores I normally frequent on Etsy surge out of my price range. Something I used to pay $20 to $50 for is now $200. Guess I need to find some new suppliers!

Darn it, I was wearing hats first! LOL

My productiveness ground to a halt when we got internet back. I need to go run errands today but the lure is very strong. :D

I love hats but don't wear them well these days...as you will see I wear my hair very short so when I have on a hat it looks like I have no hair! So you will only find me sporting ball caps to keep my head safe from the sun...oh and maybe to keep my head warm at the sailaway, but not for style. I will look for you in yours and enjoy!!

Men's Warehouse is a great store, usually lots to choose from and a tailor right there. If you have one nearby you may want to try it.

That sounds so much like me:D and I always look around incase there is something else that might be nice to have at a good price. DH goes in, gets what he went for and leaves.

Men and shopping!! Steve drives me especially in the evenings. I don't drive to much in bad weather and at night. He'll sit in the car even when its freezing. He'd rather sit there than go into the stores. Last night he sat outside KOHL'S for 2 hours. I only ran in to get a few last minute Christmas gifts. When I ask him if he needs anything its always NO. The only thing he buys is his HAWAIIAN SHIRTS!! He wears them all year around. MEN!!

I just saw David on the View. He didn't deserve to be booted off of DWTS. Nancy should have gone before now....When will her fans finally get the message that she's not a Winner here. Hope too has to go. I guess we should get all of the Silly to back us up and vote!lol

Sue sorry you got all that snow again. Its suppose to be in the 50's and sunny for this weekend. At least it will be so much better than last one.

Wow. I'm sorry to hear you ladies have some challenging experiences with your men.

I think I am the exception to the norm. I actually enjoy shopping, tho I have varying degrees of speed. If I don't know what I want (yet), I often take my sweet time and browse. If I have an idea of what I want, I usually get it done very fast. But I always love going to malls and shopping for good deals/stuff. I actually think my wife shops faster than me at least 50% of the time. Go figure! :D

Alex...you are in good company with Mike...he will be packing the night of the 16th and we leave on the 17th. He does all his own shopping and likes to shop ( I know, strange...our son is a shopper too!) so he has plenty to wear but I asked 10 days ago for him to put out anything that may need to go to the cleaners and he still hasn't done so. He comes home from a business trip and hangs up all his pants...clean or otherwise so I know there are things to be cleaned. His Tux is set to go so you all may see him wearing it every night to dinner and swim shorts during the day. I am sure he will pull it all together just fine but I hate packing last minute!!!

Diane...I was disapointed that the CEO didn't walk around a bit. Watched with the idea of seeing the ship.
Marge...I too am so sick of the news, you never hear anything good anymore...just sad, disturbing, and trash news!

CrabbyHarper...sorry can't remember your real name...Thanks for the heads up on the monument at the pier, we will look for it. As for seeing Lady Liberty at sailaway...I think she is her very best in the eve after dark or early morning before light...so stunning!!

Sue...I am tired of the snow and it's only Nov. 3rd. :( We go to SLC next week on business...glad we are flying!!
Linda and Richard...Enjoy the beach and looking out at the ocean. We will be looking over a golf course covered with snow.

DWTS...Ok enough of Hope and Nancy...Hope wasn't even one of the bottom two???? I think she gets votes because of Maks and Nancy, well I don't know...she must go and so must Hope!!

See all the Springhill Gang two weeks from tonight!! Cant wait to meet you all...and the rest of the group once we board two weeks tomorrow.
Mike and I have a months worth of work to do and only two weeks to do it...YIKES!!!

I love hats too but my hair is also very short, soooo in a baseball cap I look like a guy and in other hats I look like I have no hair too!! Probably haven't worn a real hat since they stopped being a requirement in church!! ;) Usually sport a visor, though they don't protect what hair I do have or keep you warm!!

Dewey likes to shop as well. I do not as much as some of my girlfriends.

He tends to overbuy and my girlfriends, I swear, pick up every item and doodad in the place.

That would be why I don't shop with straight women, lol.

Margo bring home more cr_p than I can believe. When I ask her why she bought something she says "Well, it was on sale" ???!!!!! I then proceed to go nuts and scream (okay, say) "If cr_p was on sale would you buy that also??"

We have this conversation on the average of 3-4 times a week.

Hi. I'm Georgia and my DH is Alan. We live in Manhattan and are so excited to be taking a taxi to our vacation in 15 days!!!

Unfortunately, I have very little time to go back and read the last 6 months of posts (I truly envy you all who have the time to do so). Is anyone willing to catch me up on what the buzz is?

This is our first time on Celebrity and we are excited about that too. We've been on Princess 7 or 8 times, RCCL 5 times (I think) and NCL 3 times (if I never go on them again would be fine with me). So any Celebrity-specific advice is greatly appreciated. And one question I must ask -- is there karaoke? I'm a singer. And, of course, DH is my biggest fan. Oh, and does anyone actually KNOW what nights are formal? We were hoping to make reservations for dinner. I'm thinking it should be the first full sea day (11/19), Thanksgiving maybe (11/24) and one of the last sea days (11/27 or 28).

I'm almost afraid to weigh in on the shopping conversation compairing men and women. An old boyfriend of mine used to get physically ill if we were in a store for too long (more than about 10 minutes). Sometimes so do I (after a much longer period), but it's just exhaustion.

Oh, well, I guess I've gone on long enough.

Aloha

Richard is a shopper and I can honestly say he's a bigger shopper than me. Small appliances to clothing...if it's on sale he'll buy a dozen then give them away ( how is he saving money that way?) If a name brand store has something on the sale racks and they don't have his size he will ask the clerks for phone numbers of other locations...call them and have the items be sent to the house. He has had people look into the warehouses and send him items...no kidding...Ralph Lauren jackets were on sale 2 weeks ago in Belks...$200 jackets for $29.99 ( the red line price)He had 4 jackets sent to the house after calling about a half dozen stores One in each color they had...then one store didn't pack it right and it was wrinkled so he called the manager and received another $20% off so it could be pressed..I kid you not. So when you see him at dinner tell him his jacket looks good...is it new??? I making him take all of them:D I had him look into the garage for a new toaster...to present to "you know who" but all he had were toaster ovens!!!!!

I know you were all very concerned but I found an affordable hat I like. LOL

:p

LOL I was extremely concerned Summer. I'm relieved now that you've found one

Glad most of my shopping is done... although Alfredo still needs new sneakers and an extra pair of shorts maybe. He'll be in the studio recording all weekend, so won't be doing any shopping with him. :D I think I'll take the opportunity to go and pick stuff out that he needs and make him wear it, like it or not :D

Welcome Georgia and Alan.

Diane - will keep your grandson (and anxious grandma and others) in my prayers.

Alex is bowling tonight and I had all intentions of just going to buy him a suit tonight but got annoyed and sidetracked over an issue at my church. Long story there but took me out of the mood so I am curled in my pjs in the recliner under my woobie blanket. Alex Has a suit and several sport coats from prior cruises but he's lost weight and been running so they don't fit right. Last night he was suggesting the old ones would work but they won't for me! We will figure it out and hopefully have tailoring done in time. Thanks for all the stories and suggestions.

I'm ready to get on the ship already!

Welcome Georgia and Alan, Our roll call happens to be a rather large and extremely friendly group of people.

I personally really enjoy Celebrity. They know how to pamper their customers. I have been on RCCL once. Celebrity does not have all the activities on board like RCCL has. No quest, no parades, I'm not sure about karaoke. They do have contests like The newlywed and not so newlywed contest, and trivia games. They have lots of live music throughtout the ship. Celebrity is more about service than activities. Orange juice, sparkling wine, or OJ when you embark. When you come back from excursions in the Caribbean they usually hand out cool cloths and serve cold beverages like ice water & ice tea available as you go through security.

Most likely formal nights will be the first full sea day (11/19), Thanksgiving (11/24) and the next to the last sea days (11/28).
However, the only venue that actually has formal night is the MDR. The specialty restaurants and Blu (for Aqua Class) are smart casual every night.

I don't remember being this nervous when his father had his done. Sometimes I think I worry more with the grandchildren. Or maybe it's that when you're younger you deal with it better. Dianne

Dianne - will be thinking of Kevin - I am sure everything will be fine- I remember having my tonsils taken out at 5 yrs of age - when they used 'ether' - -ha!ha! then they told me to count backwards starting from 100 - boy! I was smart - 5 yrs old- !!?? I think I said 100,99,98-- why do I remember this? it's been centuries... then I had lots of ice cream - and my Mom bought me a doll whom I named Susie - o m g! this is scaring me - all this memory coming back! and yet I forgot to pay one of my bills for a book I ordered last summer!

Dianne,

Kevin is in our prayers as well. I had mine out when I was about 19 and Alfredo too when he was a bit younger. Like most have said, it's probably worse on you than it will be on him :) I also remember starting the countdown from 100 and getting to maybe 97 LOL.

He'll be getting all the attention and doting he deserves. Jello and ices and popsicles, a kids dream ;) I remember with me, I thought they'd be giving me lots of ice cream too, but they said to stay away from dairy because it produces phlegm, so they just kept getting me tons of ices and popcicles, in whatever flavors I wanted, almost like when you're on a cruise :D

Praying for an easy surgery and speedy recovery!

I had mine out when I was around 7 or 8. I know they don't like to take them out anymore but if someone keeps getting infections, they still do it. My son had his out when he was about 25 or 26 and it's much harder when your older. It's better to get them out when they are young if they are having problems with them.

Welcome, Georgina. YES Celebrity does have Karaoke. As a matter of fact, they hold a competition! It was quite a lot of fun on our last cruise (August). I will wish you good luck now. We'll be watching.

Dianne - our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin today.

My DH (Gary) is a gadgetaholic. If it exists - he has it. He doesn't actually USE anything, just stores them in the house (lol). He also has a hot sauce addiction (must talk to the HHfD) and is bringing his special sauce with him on the cruise (as usual).

As for clothes shopping = he is not a browser ...he used to go in looking for something specific and come out 1 hour later with $1,000 of stuff because the pretty sales girl said he needed it and it looked good on him. We shop together now for him!

I personally hate shopping unless it for decorating but I do love to find a bargain.

I just came inside from watching this morning's sunrise. Wow, if you miss this one - you missed a sky ablaze in reds and yellows.

Just what I want to see each morning from our balcony!

How many days Howard?

Please give Gary this website - Peppers.com owned by a friend of mine. (Chip Hearn) Chip has been on the food channel several times, competes in BBQ cook offs, and is the World's Largest Supplier of hot sauces.

I was on one of the islands a few years ago looking at hot sauces in a shop and saw a sticker on one from his shop here in Delaware. You name it he has it!

Do I hear huevos rancheros?

Carol, Now I know why Rod loves Narce so much. They both have a love for Ralph Lauren. If Rod likes a shirt by Ralph he has to have it in every color. We must have 30 golf shirts in the closet in all colors. He is now into Cole Hahn shoes. We go to their outlet and if he likes the shoe then he buys what he calls "backup shoes" We have custom closets and we both have 90 holes for shoes. He has filled up every hole and has plenty of backup shoes in boxes on the shelves. It seems I can't get him to shop and then there are times when I can't get him to stop. Love him anyway.

Welcome all new comers. I have been so busy and this thread is so chatty that I don't have much time to answer nor read every post.
Going to AC overnight for our anniversary. Meeting friends for dinner there. Last night I won $70 at my Italian American meeting, hoping my good luck is still with me. Coming home in the morning as our daughter and family are coming for dinner to help us celebrate. Then it is off to play cards with friends. It seems we never sit for too long.
I have almost all my Christmas decorations up, no tree yet. Want to get my cards all written out and ready to send when we get home from this trip. One more week until Elaine and John come and then the fun begins. Started to get my clothes ready also. Suitcases will come down on Sunday. Well time to go out for breakfast. I know by tomorrow I will be reading lots of posts.

Watching the Today Show - Monday is the start of Where in the World is Mat Laurer?

So with the daily count down, why not add - Where in the World is Howard C.? Not in the mornings but late afternoon or evening. I know that you have lots of travel photos. So are you game?

Pat

LOL. I would need about 6 holes for "all" of my shoes. Work shoes, dress shoes, running shoes, 2 pairs of sneakers (white and black), deck shoes. Maybe two more slots if we want to put my two pairs of sandals somewhere.

I don't remember being this nervous when his father had his done. Sometimes I think I worry more with the grandchildren. Or maybe it's that when you're younger you deal with it better. Dianne

Dianne: Sending prayers your way for Kevin. I do believe as we get older we worry more. He will be fine.

Just what I want to see each morning from our balcony!

@Georgia - I often sing in the Karaoke on the ships as well. I think Princess and HAL do the best job (or at least make the biggest deal out of it - which makes if fun for the participants). I've sailed on the Millenium and most recently on the Equinox (last April) and the Karaoke is fun, and on the Equinox they had a cruise-long competition but it fell short of the Princess experience. Song lists are pretty limited as well (unless they've changed their vendor).

Bottom line, it's still fun but you might be a bit disappointed. They hold the Karaoke in the Sky lounge. If you want to be involved in the contest, make sure you participate in the first (or second) session, or you won't be included in the "finals".

BTW - We loved the Equinox (she is a sister of the Silhouette). Felt it was the best ship we've ever experienced and I've been on more than 25 cruises (my wife more than 40). For me, it's not all about the Karaoke (sometimes I miss it entirely if it conflicts with other things I want to do) but I do enjoy participating, if I can. Hope to meet you.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and good wishes. Kevin's surgery went well and they had to give him morphine since his throat was bothering him so much and was making him cough. They were afraid of bleeding, so they wanted him to sleep. Let's hope no problems erupt.

They had to do this surgery because it was causing him to have sleep apnea.

Valerie is right about the ice cream causing phlegm. They said to limit that.

I remember the ether. I woke up during the surgery to see them put the strainer over my face to give me more.

Thanks again everyone, Dianne

Hey Jonny, we'll do a duet. Yeah, I was thinking that this time I need to get to the karaoke earlier. We've had a habit of putting it off and the last Princess cruise we were on it was extremely popular and I didn't even get to compete! Very disappointing since I had gotten used to winning. :o But ya snooze, ya lose!

Glad the surgery went well, Dianne. I had mine out at the age of 2 -- I inherited ear problems. All I remember is a big light. And about 10 years ago in the middle of ear surgery I woke up with a sheet over my face. It was a bit freaky.

I'll be shopping this weekend. I've got so much going on between now and the 18th . . . I'm going to be even more ready for this vacation than I am right now!

Quiet Friday morning in the office so had a bit of time to read up on the posts. Also, did a little on-line shopping. Even though I'm no where near ready to start packing - feel like I need to buy a few things to bring along. Many of you who have cruised with me before have heard this story. Usually 2 weeks before I leave on a trip - I need to have something new. Order a bunch of stuff on line - don't like half of it and spend time when I return mailing stuff back (or throwing it with the tags on in the good will bin cause I don't feel like returning). My pattern is continuing. Bought a pair of formal night shoes and a bathing suit. Hope my afternoon is a bit busier or we'll go broke (guess I shouldn't say here cause Alex is watching :-)

I was on one of the islands a few years ago looking at hot sauces in a shop and saw a sticker on one from his shop here in Delaware. You name it he has it!

...a tale of a fateful trip. It started at this tropic port aboard this tiny ship..

Gilligan's Island theme song...no? Nobody? Just me? Okey dokey.

Friday night and I've opened a bottle of Napa Valley Meritage (Costco). Quick funny story slash teachable moment for folks that have never sailed from Bayonne before. For those who have I think you'll empathize. Key background info here is that my wife's family is from the Hoboken/Jersey City area originally and Annette grew up in Sayreville, NJ.

It was the year '06 and times were crrrraaaazy...no, no...wrong story. It WAS 2006 though. First time sailing from Bayonne - or as the marketing dept calls it - Cape Liberty Cruise Port. But, hey, it is nothing if not convenient.

First sailing from Bayonne. Pull up in the car right at the terminal to unload only. A well-weathered gal in a neon vest appears at the trunk of our car before I have the first bag out. She introduces herself in a classic 30+ years of smoking NJ native accent. "Hallow. I'm Mary your longshoreman. I'm in charge of if your bags make it onto that ship." (Mary points to Explorer). She loads the bags on her cart and wheels them the 10 yards to the bins.

I get out four singles from my wallet. My NJ wife sees this and looks horrified. Mary is about to turn around and come back. Oh no! Annette leans into me and says "give her $30; give her $30." So I do. Mary thanks me. I go to park the car.

When I get back to the terminal to meet my wife she says "what didn't you understand when Mary said she's in charge of our luggage making it onto the ship?" I said I just thought she was greeting us and explaining the process. Annette laughed and shook her head.

Flash forward to our return. Mary is the porter that comes up to us in the terminal. We said "Mary!" She smiled, but didn't know why. She loaded up our bags on her cart. One big duffle bag was particularly heavy. Mary says to me "that's too heavy for my bad back so you'll have to put that on the cart yourself." Ummm...isn't lifting heavy bags kinda your JOB (in my head).

We recall our friend Mary to this day!

Kim,

That was pretty cool, brought tears to this old foggy's eyes. Wish I had thought of that one!;)

Not sure where these weird thoughts that pop into my head come from but;

Summer, if Dewey and I can find a guy named Huey on the ship, we could do a Huey Lewis tune at Karaoke going as "Huey, Dewey, Louie and The News"!!

What do you think? I'm thinking of a hot version of "The Power of Love" or "If This Is It"

As usual, "I'm Game"!!!

Oh that conjours up such a crazy picture in my head!! It would be so funny!! Years ago I could sing and would be crazy enough to try Karaoke!! But, not so anymore - any singing I still do is in choir, or funny songs with my theater group. I had Bell's Palsy several years ago and it never went away 100% - hence the vocals don't work like they used to and you never know when a sweet note could turn into a squawk  ! But, ce la vie -- there's worse afflictions that could have happened!!

Well, I think the next 13 days are really going to fly!!! Have so many things scheduled - eye doctor, haircut, etc.

You are TOO FUNNY! I doubt you'd ever get Dewey up for karaoke. Now funny thing...his middle name is 'louis' and pronounced 'louie'. His grandparents were swiss and it's a relative on that side that he is named after.

I shall have Huey Lewis in my head all day....

I didn't have a chance to clarify the other day we had guests most of the day yesterday. The karaoke they had on Eclipse, had the lyrics monitor, but no 'sound' monitor so you couldn't hear yourself at all. and the speakers were pointed away, so you received no back up music. It might have been just whoever set it up that evening.

Good morning all......less than 2 weeks now gotta get m butt in gear. Off to get my hair colored to cover all the grays and try to pretend for a little while longer I'm not getting old! I tell everyone my grays have names they are from stress not age. Alex s up early to o golfing. Going to be a little chilly this morning but will warm up. Maybe I will actually buy him a suit today. We will see.

Happy Anniversary Rod and Pat! Keep Em rolling and clear those AC casinos of their bankroll.

Have a great day cruise friends!

Kim...I've had gray hair since I was 16 ( I met Mike when I was 14 so I always say it is his fault) so the past 15 years or so I just go with the salt and pepper...mostly salt now and have some blonds added to it then I have it cut way short. I don't think Mike really gets the expensive process since I go for hours and come home $$$"s later with no hair. LOL!! But he never complains, just always tells me how nice I look!:) Appointment set for the 15th...I'm starting to look like "The Shaggy Dog"!!

Welcome to new "Wild Turkeys" members and hello to those that have not been on the thread for awhile!

For those that asked about the various events, I will again attempt to explain.

Sail Away Party: Following the Muster Drill, the group will meet at a predetermined location (Good Weather: Sunset Bar - Bad weather: Sky Observation Lounge) to say Hello, Hola, Dia duit, Ciao, Bonjour, good day mate, etc ....... to each other.

Connections: Cruise Critic party which we have registered for and also will be at a predetermined time & location, usually first full day at sea. You should receive an invitation from CC in your cabin.

“The Challenge” prize will be presented at the CC Connections party! You must be listed on the Roll Call to receive the details regarding “The Challenge”!

Slot Pull: Our group will meet in the casino (Following the Connections Party - Sorry, Majority rules!). Each person pays $15 and pulls the slot machine an assigned number of pulls with the final winnings divided among the group players. Slot Pull rules will be sent to all registered members on the Roll Call.

Farewell luncheon: Last full day on board, the group will meet for lunch in the Main dinning room at a reserved area to exchange tall tales, addresses & phone numbers, etc. and look at the many photos taken during the cruise.

Other Parties & Events not yet listed: ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Purpose of all events: - to have fun and to meet and mingle with new friends!

If I have described any of above incorrectly or left something out, please advise accordingly.

Are we Cruisin' yet?

Thanks for all the good wishes for our anniversary from my good friends. Rod couldn't stop winning yesterday. I held my own until about 1 am and then I lost $100. So we made an easy decision it was time to go to bed. We gambled for about 14 hours taking time out to shop for some jewlery for me and dinner. Just costume jewlery but a nice necklace I couldn't resist. They have really nice shops in the Quarter at the Tropicana. Came back early this morning and am now waiting for my daughter and her family to come for dinner. The guys may go swimming in the indoor pool. Christine and I will just talk as we talk. So beautiful out today not like that snowy Saturday we got last week. Everyone in the NJ area enjoy the sun and its warmth.

OK...I think I am caught up...this group is sooooo excited and I feel like with each passing day I get to know a little bit more about so many of you. I try to keep Mike in the loop as he does not follow the thread like I do.

Cheers to Pat & Rod...to many, many more!!

Welcome to anyone new...you are going to love Celebrity if it is your first. I have been reading posts from the folks who just got in from their Rome TA. Sounds like they had some rough days at sea but said the ship and everything about it and the staff was wonderful. It just made me more excited!!!

Diane...so happy to hear your grandson has had his surgery and it went well...always such a worry. Our grandson had a hernia removed a few months back when he was just over a year old...he did much better than his grandma!! LOL!

I have loved catching up on all the funny shopping stories and Summer, I can't wait to see the hat!!

Pat...I was toying with putting up the tree and decorations this weekend but now I am thinking I will do it once we return from our business trip to SLC next week. It's our last trip before we head for NJ. It will be nice to have that behind us and hopefully be able to wrap up a lot of things so we won't have to work too hard over vacation. I envy anyone who has even started their decorating and or Christmas shopping. I did buy stationary yesterday for our Christmas letter...it's the one time of year I actually "write" and connect with family and friends who are away. Hope to have the letter drafted before we leave. May work on it while we watch football today...Go ND!! Go AFA!!

Have a great weekend all!

Does anyone know for certain, that we will have the same staff as the overseas cruises? I was hoping with a late July deployment, that just meant that we'd be into the fourth month of contracts so hopefully still have the same staff.

It makes a big difference in service! I mean, it's still good, but the fact that people know where things are, etc.

Thanks for all the funny posts that really made me laugh but aggravated newly diagnosed asthma.

It is not long now and I hpoe the weather is better than it was over there and hopefully everyone now has power.

I hope you all stay safe, well and warm (where necessary) so that you can all enjoy meeting up very soon.

days left to go. This means that today is the last time the Silhouette will leave its current home port without us. The next time she sails out of Bayonne, we will be on her. So if you want to go to the NY Harbor Web Cam tonight at 5:00 PM Eastern time and watch her sail out of port with Derf from the "Everything Silhouette" thread, start thinking that the next time she does this, we will be waving at the camera. Drove down to Bayonne to see our Silly. She sure is a beauty! We weren't the only ones going out for a look see, either. We're very excited. Figured out where our cabin is. CAN'T WAIT!!! Love the webcam. Beautiful morning pix.

Got caught in horrible traffic on the turnpike going back home and missed the beginning of the game (Jets) - had to listen on the radio. DH not very happy about that. But so far we're winning, so that's good.

I managed to pull something in my neck/shoulder so I don't feel much like doing any chores today and there are many to do. Alan hasn't gotten out the luggage yet, but we have had a "space" for potential packing. I managed to add to my pile as I switch out the summer clothes for the winter clothes. Love being able to do 2 things at once.

Congratulations Pat & Rod. Alan & I had our first date 10 years ago on Friday. We've got a while to go, but we're looking forward to it.:D

For those of you that have access to our cruise web site, I have loaded a page on the site with the health questionnaire that we all have to fill out before we board the ship. I have a link to it through the Miscellaneous Links and Fun Facts page and it has its own link on the navigation bar on the right.

When you get to the page, you can do a "right click" on the image, and save a copy of it to your machine to print it out, fill it in and bring it with you to the pier. One copy of the form is needed for each person over 18.

It looks as if it's making head way as we speak. Looking forward to meeting everyone in 12 days (and some in 11 days at the Springhill). I'm ready.

John

Oops, my bad. It is the Norwegian Gem headed out now. Didn't know there was another in the harbor.

Thanks, Rod and I are together since we were 16. dated 4 and 1/2 years and then got married. The years just seem to slip away. At least most of them were good so I am very blest. We celebrated last week with a couple that we know. It was their 69th anniversary and they are going strong. Both of them have all their marbles and still drive well. Gives us all something to look forward to.

I watched the Silhouette sail down the river and under the Bridge - how beautiful she looked, even though it was dark - she was all lit up like a Christmas tree. Next time, we'll all be aboard!!! Yippee :) :)

Hi everyone ! Figured I butt in for a few minutes and wish all of you a wonderful cruise.

Our neighbor is on the ship right now. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Dee, I sure hope they have some chocolate cookies for John. The &^%* took them away from the concierge, drat.

We'll be leaving for DC for a wedding and then come home for a few days and then head to the Explorer for 12 nights. Don't know what to expect after being on the Allure. It'll be like all of you going on an older ship after being on this new guy.

I think of all of you often (with love, and a little chocolate)

Have a wonderful cruise, yeah yeah, I know you're not leaving yet. He heee

We just have to cruise together again. I learned some really great (very naughty) tricks from the bartenders on the Allure. Just have to share them with all of you.

See ya guys....

Been off for 2 days & took me 45 minutes to catch up. Now I keep a box of tissues nearby because I end up laughing or crying with this group!
Congrats to everyone celebrating something this month.

Silly Wet sure did look bright & shiny tonight sailing under the bridge.

After we get back from the wedding in Charleston next weekend we enter intense packing mode. Too much packing for me at once.

Did you guys see Derf waving to us from the Lido deck? If the weather is like today, we should be at the Sunset Bar in 12 days! :p

Yep, only two more updates. Next Sunday and the last will be sent out on Weds. evening with any last minutes changes, upgrades, new members, etc.

I know you are all tired of me asking, but if you review the Roll Call and notice anything wrong or want to be added to the Slot Pull or the Wet T-Shirt contest on Richard's balcony, please let me know.

It is a good thing I went out to check. I honestly thought I had submitted my registration for the Connections Party earlier. It is strange. I have a confirmation letter in my mailbox back in April that I registered but it just told me when I did it again, that I updated the Connections Party. It also said 174 registered. I do know that with Royal Caribbean, if you put in your number again, it knew that and told you.

It was so nice seeing the Silhouette set sail. I was disappointed with the quality of the webcam. I don't know if it was because it was dark but when the NCL Gem went through from NY about 20 minutes or so earlier, you saw that ship nice & Clear. Oh Well, We get to experience it in person in 12 days! :D
Good Luck Packing Everyone!
Dianne

Howard I got concerned about the connections party because I along with several others got knocked off a RCCL list so I went in and did it again and it said : Dianne , you have updated your connection party. I don't think the original said updated. And it is showing 174.

OMG, I was gone for 2 days and there's tons of pages to read........LOL We visited good friends of ours in Delaware. They recently moved there so it was the first time we saw their new home. It was very nice....one floor and just the size I would like. Had a great time visiting with them. We were up till around 1:30 this morning playing poker......LOL They love to play cards.

We took a ride around yesterday and I ended up buying a bike.......LOL A bike store that rents bikes sells them at the end of the season.......so I got a $300 bike for $130. It had a few scratches on it but it was in pretty decent shape. Actually, it was just what I was looking for......I think they call them "low riders". They're easy to get on and they have old fashioned HIGH handlebars with a normal foot brake.......no hand brakes.......no speeds..........just an old fashioned bike!! LOL Took a ride to QVC outlet today - didn't even know they had outlets. On the way home we made a stop at Dover Downs. We were never there before and we wanted to check it out. It's actually very nice and they had a lot of different machines. We spent a few hours there, didn't win, but didn't lose to much either.

Kim, don't sweat the gray! Right now, I'm putting off coloring my hair too because I want to wait another week to do it. BTW, Tony can't sing either but neither can I.

Marge, I know what you mean about being busy with appointments. I had an eye doctor appointment on Thursday, had bloodwork done on Saturday, I have a dentist appointment on Tuesday and a haircut on Wednesday.......LOL I think this week is going to fly by. And work is going to be very busy this week too!!! 8 more get up and go to work days!!!!

Louis, OMG, can't wait to see (I mean hear) you and Dewey sing................LOL Your going to do it right??? You will not catch me singing.........I can't carry a tune!! My SIL does Karaoke shows......she has great equipment - she also DJ's parties/weddings, etc. They live in the Orlando area and last time we were there we went to the bar/restaurant where she had a gig every week. Well, I talked Tony into getting up to sing (that was a mistake on my part because he DOES NOT sing, but he can whistle.....LOL). Of course I had to get up with him and we were really, really BAD!!! There's no way I would ever do that again!!! Her business is called "Pink House Productions". Geez, I was so happy that there was no one there that we knew except a few family members.........LOL

Summer, can't wait to see your new hat.......did you get a fasinator? I can't find 2 of my baseball cap type hats. One of them was brand new......bought it last time we were in St. Maarten and I have no idea where I put it. That's all I ever wear when in the sun........helps shade my eyes.

Dianne, glad your grandson made out okay. Bet your glad that's behind you now.

Pat, Welcome home. Sounds like Rod won and you didn't lose to much so hopefully you came home with more than you went with.

Okay, going back to read some more posts.

The weekend didn't go as planned. Kevin had a car accident on Friday, He rear end someone who just stopped. A lot of damage to his car but luckly not to him. Mix up getting loaner. Steve and Kevin still went to MIL. (Steve had problem with one tire on Wednesday. I told him to buy some new ones. hahaha ) They were on there way to NJ on GARDEN STATE. So they had a flat tire.. Couldn't get off 1 nut. Called for AAA but they can't come on there. So they called someone else. They couldn't get it off either. So now they had to be towed off. Were able to get it off at Firestone now he needed 2 tires. They got to MIL 2 hours late. Kevin took Grandma to store to buy floor tiles etc. Steve started to take up tiles. It was all Rotten! So now they couldn't do it. They tried to fix a few other things and that didn't go any better. So they decided to drive back home. The was going to closed until 3:PM because of Marathon. They figured they should come home. By MIDNIGHT they came back home. Well my shopping got a little side tracked. Did get to KOHL'S bought a lightweight jacket. Made dinner today for all of them. Now I can't stand. Never can make plans always something else comes up. Steve started to put up his village not very far but he did start.

Must be contagious. I would if I could but I cannot get motivated enough to kick myself.

LOL Summer, Howard, I feel your pain! Luckily I had just enough energy to kick Alfredo ;) and we went to the mall. We chose the right mall and hit the jackpot. Got him *everything* that he needed. Now I don't have to be subjected to his shopping @#$!@ anymore :D Then my SIL made a nice dinner for us while we 'discussed' our Ecuador trip (headed down to my FIL's hotel for 10 days over New Years). I told her that I was too focused on my cruise to even think about Ecuador LOL!

So looking forward to meeting everyone!! 12 short days. 11 days until I head up to NY! Yipee!!!

Can't wait to see everyone. And just so I don't miss anybody, Happy birthday to my fellow scorpions (celebrating on board) happy anniversary to all those wonderful and long marriages (you all give me hope  j/k) I think it's fantastic, and I can only hope Alfredo and I follow suit! And any other special occassions that I might have missed. Happy (insert occasion here) to all you as well :D

Thanks for posting all the beautiful pics of the Silly in the harbor, I wish I was around earlier to watch the webcam, I know my brother got a birds eye view from his apartment and said it was absolutely breathtaking!

Steve, I noticed on the roll call that you didn't have us listed for the slot pull. Our luck's not *that* bad ;) hehe. If/when you get a chance, can you please update that. Thanks!!

Kathy, so sorry to hear about your weekend. Thank goodness it was only the car that got "scratched". Glad to know that nobody was hurt. Things can only get better.

I found out something because of your post. I did not know that AAA cannot go onto the GSP. Considering that we are coming down on the GSP, I will need to make sure that everything is okay or at least I will cut over to I-95 as soon as I can. Coming from the Boston area it is always recommended to go over the George Washington Bridge but I will not do that unless it is the only route left to travel. For me, the GSP is always my route of choice.

Howard I'm glad we could be of some help. Actually on 495 Long Island Expressway its the same thing. We were going to out to dinner to meet some cruise friends last year. When on it we lost the WHEEL on the front. The Axle BROKE. It was on a mfg. call back just recieved that week and it happened to our Sonata! On LIE on righthand lane at 6PM with all the traffic. That was a nightmare. BUT really a lot of the roads have there own service. AAA can't be called but they will take payment from them. Tricky way of working things out. Good luck with your driving this way. Its just an eye opener.

Beautiful dog! We have two Russell mixes (rescues). We also have a mastiff/lab mix (another rescue! LOL). I have the say, our 'mastador' is a people pleaser and obedient to a fault. However, the terriers have that terrier personality and it's hard to not laugh at their stubborn antics! Very smart dogs.

Thanks for posting the photos of the Silhouette...next time she leaves the harbor all of us will be onboard!! YEA!!!
We had a nice relaxing weekend. One of the first I can remember in a long time where we didn't go anywhere. We watched a lot of football yesterday today and still watching tonight. We packed for our 3 day business trip and talked about packing for the cruise once we return. We will be just a week out by then so I guess we really will have to get serious. I'm going to update my "One week out" to do lists once we are on the plane tomorrow. I'm starting to feel just a little bit overwhelmed knowing we will still need to wrap up a few business issues, decorate the house and tree, pack, hair and nails appoints and all the other little things that need to be done before we leave and there will be only one week left to do it all. Maybe once we have this trip behind us there will be less pressure.
It sounds like we are getting away just in time, our next storm is to hit tomorrow afternoon then snow a little off and on through Tues. It doesn't sound like it's going to be a big storm so hopefully it wont be. A couple more ski resorts opened this weekend so thats a good thing and they are predicting great conditions for the Thanksgiving holiday skiers.
It sound like I better check to make sure we are registered for the Connections party...thanks for the heads up!!
Well is seems later than it is...I always have a hard time the first few nights after we change the clocks. I'm sure I'll be up early...
Good Monday to everyone! Becky

Now I can't stand. Never can make plans always something else comes up. Steve started to put up his village not very far but he did start.

Hope everyone else had a better weekend than we did. Good to see photo's of the ship. Soon it will be us.

Kathy:)

Kathy...hope the up coming week treats you better than the weekend!

Thanks for the welcome everyone! we booked so last minute. I've been calling/ emailing trying to get all my excursions in place! Some on our own. Some through the ship. Does anyone mind giving me their run down of excursions they planned incase there's something exciting I'd like to try? I have been to all these destinations except St. Croix.

I have a few questions too hope you can help with.

What time will the cruise critic meet up then slot pull be on first sea day? Really hoping to sleep in so was hoping to hear it's in the afternoon and not am :)

How did you guys know our other formal night will be on thanksgiving? I called and celebrity had no clue. So great to know and makes sense!

What are the special packages offered on board for booking a few of the Alternative restaurants?

Also, anyone know for sure if we buy the premium drink package if we can use it for alcohol on Labadee? I did a search and saw a few different answers.

Thanks for your help! Getting excited!

One more thing. What are you guys hearing about the beds? Was just on the explorer in august and people were raving about the new bedding yet they were soooo uncomfortable to us. We couldnt even walk in the mornings and we are 36 and 38 yrs old. We tipped our stateroom attendant $70 to get us extra pads that were no where to be found before the tip. It helped a little but they didnt fit the whole bed and we still woke up so sore everyday!

Was thinking of buying egg crates or memory foam. Would be cheaper than the $ 70 tip to find something that hardly worked for us. Lol.

Any feedback would be great!

Grrrrrrr. The two pass interference calls did go a long way on that last drive. I am sure Belichik had a few words to say about that in the locker room after the game.

I'm pretty sure it was one call on each of the last two drives. And in my opinion they were both good calls. But of course that is always up for debate. Either way, it was a great game between two very good teams. Fun to watch.

I'm so sorry to hear about Kevin's accident as someone told me when I had mine a week ago if no one is hurt that is a good thing cars can be replaced people can't. It sounds like you need this cruise as much as us.

Everyone else on the roll call drive safe as this is the second person on this roll call that had a accident and you know it always comes in three they say whoever they are.

Trust me, I am not even close to questioning the calls. They were good calls, stupid plays on our part. That is why Bill will most likely have something to say, he just will never say it for the media to hear.

Okay everyone, now that our ship has left port for the last time without us, we are now in the SERIOUS phase of our countdown. From now until the end, all photos will be on the ship. There will be something a little different starting today. I have, from doing this a few times, learned that you can actually find the numbers you are looking for, right on the ship itself. So here we go.......

Howard, I was so disgusted I turned it off early in the third quarter. Brady stunk yesterday and the defense stunk like it has all year. If this team couldn't get up and motivated against the first game against the Giants since the 2007 disgrace, then when can they get motivated????????

And, I'm getting tired of Bilichick also.

And I've been a die hard fan for 35 years. My Dad had season tickets back in the 70"s and we used to take our Motor Home up from Connecticut to the games back in Schaefer Stadium. What a place that was!

They ruined my Sunday!!!!!!!!!!

It is disturbing but I have in recent years learned to control my disgust. After Red Sox '86 and '03, I have come to realize that there is no sense in getting so engrossed into a game that you have a day ruined. I love my teams, I want them to win, but if they do not, my day continues. When the game ended, I went out with my wife, had a lovely dinner, came home, watched the news and crashed for the night. Next week, I will watch them again just like I did yesterday.

Hey, before I shut my pc down last night I saw that you messaged me on FB. FYI........FB was up but I wasn't on it. I had a bunch of tabs open and was back and forth to the computer so didn't see your message till late. Didn't get home till around 7:30 from Delaware and was trying to catch up on mail and other things.

Funny you mention that Howard. Kim will be quick to point out to anyone that will listen that I basically wrote off all sports last year when the Giants had that meltdown game against Philly. I was SO disgusted I wouldn't even watch a game of any kind for months.

What I did learn from that experience is exactly what you describe above. It doesn't matter. Yes, I want my teams to win. If they don't, they don't. Life goes on. And while I am now watching games again and rooting for them, I don't meltdown if they lose. I just shrug my shoulders and move on enjoying the rest of my day. HA, look at me - turn 50 and I'm getting all mature and stuff. Who'd a thunk it??? :D

Kathy, Sorry that your weekend was a bust but like everyone said as long as no one got hurt. Not a great weekend for me either. Somehow I threw my back out. I guess I tried to do too much. Find I can only sit so long, stand so long so the bed now is my best friend. Better get better, I have so much more to do.
Hey guys I loved the Giants win but why do they have to make me wait until the last moment to feel good about it. I really don't understand why anyone gets upset over sports. Unless I have money on the game, I can't get mad at any team for losing.
Howard, I love those chairs at the bar. They are so comfortable. thanks for that picture.

(can I post pet pics without driving anyone insane?)

Yes, you can post pet pics anytime. You won't drive me insane!

My Kerry can be both obedient and obstinate. As a native Irish breed, he absolutely has the look of the devil in his eyes at times and that typical terrier behavior that goes with it!

When Silhouette sounded her horn as she was slowly advancing away from the dock, however, he was momentarily humbled and just sat low and cowered.

Although I am an enthusiast of classic ocean liners, Silhouette was stunning all lit up in the sunset glow. There were many people taking photos and watching the departure.

My dear friend and wonderful travel agent was aboard this weekend for a two day cruise to nowhere for the travel industry. When I spoke with her last night, she raved about the ship. She said it was modern luxury, very classy and tasteful. Very good food and service.

I am excited!

See you soon.

Glad your surgery was successful, recovery is going well and you'll be cruising with us!
Thank you Dianne,

No, we booked a while back, and I did post some a few thousand posts ago!

I did not sign on because I had surgery during the summer (hip replacement) and wanted to make sure I was okay and did not have to cancel before jumping in. So far so good.

marge

Hope you both have a safe trip and that the storm isn't too bad to effect your travels!
Becky

Clever one Howard! Though it was a little tough at first to get with the morning cobwebs in the brain, lol.

While watching the Silhouette leave Cape Liberty, I thought it would have been special if some how they could have cordinated lighting so that the name Silhouette could have been spelled out by balcony lights!

I did not think they would let you get so close to the ship! Wow. I did see it on the web cam leaving this afternoon.

There is a very nice 9/11 Memorial in Harborview Park at the end of the port. The memorial was a gift of the Russian people, and President Clinton was a speaker when it was dedicated in 2006. The park is open from dawn to dusk everyday, and there is free parking in an adjacent lot.

From the park, there are also great views of the Harbor, Manhattan, the VZ Bridge, etc. Whatever ship is in port is literally right in front of you - so you can get very close.

See you soon.

Kathy (Samkmm) Kevin can't seem to get a break this year. Thankfully...it will be over before we know it and 2012 will be great! Did his lawyer tell him he feels OK today??? (lol)

Can't wait to board our lovely Silly Wette! I hope the snow holds off.

77 for the Slot Pull. Wow - we may need more than 1 machine or we'll be there ALL day!

Received an e-mail from the Captains Club. Formal night will be the 2nd night but the other 2 nights are as yet "undetermined". That's the official party line.

I spent the weekend redecorating 2 rooms but they are DONE! Two more to go this week and then I can concentrate on PACKING!

So much to do, so little time now!!! ;)

Welcome to all the newcomers.

So sorry to hear about the accidents - now is not the time for additional stress!

Brian, Kristen & Bradden where in Poughkeepsie are you from? My friend Nicki lives in Highland and I'm in Ulster Park - Nicki is still an IBMer and I'm a retiree!! I used to live at The Commons on Cedar Ave in Pok until we bought the house in Ulster Park 5 years ago!! Who knows, we may have mutual friends. It will be nice to have some locals on board - looking forward to meeting you (and everyone)!!!

The still shot of the Silly last night is so pretty! Can't wait to board. Yesterday I picked up some small stuff for my travel kit and going to try to organize that today. I'm slowly whittling down the list of clothes - determined to get them into one suitcase!! I did it before; no reason I can't do it again!! Shoes and those GD flippers are now the problem!

Well off to bowling league; hoping I can get a round of golf in tomorrow - it will probably be the last time this year!!
Ciao for now, :)
