We just got the Waikiki Beach Mariott Resort, as well, for $95! WOOHOO, and thank you for the bidding advice.

Martha, I entered 4 stars, Waikiki Beach area, and the bid went through right away. Good luck!

This beats our other hotel reservation, for double the price, and not as nice a porperty. Which I am cancelling as soon as I post this.:)

Hi all!

Just got a little conflicting information and wanted to verify.

When using Priceline, did you put in 4* or resort?

Thanks so much!

Martha

I bid Resort* but it looks like some others did 4* and still got the Waikiki Marriott.

For anyone flying in early and staying in Waikiki, I just booked via Priceline bidding and got the Waikiki Marriott for 4 nights pre-cruise @ $95 per night. This is a great price. We stayed here last year as well and the added bonus is that there is a parking garage next door for $10 a night so you don't have to pay the high parking prices at the hotel. Most of the hotel parking prices are about $30 a night.

Hotel and flights are booked!

Angela

Thanks for the FYI!!! We too are now staying at the Waikiki MArriott for $95 a night starting on the 19th :)

A question for those who have done this cruise before. Since Radiance does not leave port till Monday evening, can you, or have you in the past rented a car till the Monday? Can you park it at the pier Sunday night? We are looking at renting a car and not sure if we should return it prior to boarding on Sunday or keeping it till Monday.

We rented a car pre-cruise 3 nights last year but returned it back once we boarded the ship. We wish we had kept it. Couldn't get enough of driving our brand new convertible Mustang to the North Shore.

I have booked a convertible again for this trip. I booked Thrifty for most islands our last two trips to Hawaii but for this one I booked Budget as I got a convertible for $126 for 5 days = $188 including all taxes! I'm ready to go but have to wait a year and have two more cruises before this one lol

I should have mentioned that the person that posted this said they parked at the Harbour Court lot and only paid $5 overnight (out by 8am). Based on where the ship was docked, it was the closest lot.

It is exciting to read about everyone's travel arrangements. We are also planning to arrive in Honolulu on the 19th so we have a few days to see Oahu. Haven't made flight arrangements yet, but getting close. I have booked a room at the Hale Koa but am watching prices at several other hotels and may change as the date gets closer.

We are thinking of taking the train from Vancouver to either Seattle or Portland at the end of the cruise then flying to SLC from there. Has anyone ever taken the train? It will mean staying overnight in Vancouver and catching the train very early in the morning, but we have heard it is a beautiful ride. So, just wondering if anyone has done this.

We have taken the train, once, to Vancouver, from Los Angeles. Be aware that some of the train schedules are actually busses from Vancouver to Seattle. Also be aware that there can be very long wait times at the border. Those seem to be the two major drawbacks that are mentioned and experienced.

Good evening all

We are back from a wonderful trip on the Radiance - she's having her "make-over" currently as we speak. Will be some interesting changes!

Had a terrific time - met some great folks who we look forward to seeing/sailing with next April. They made our cruise memorable :D We tried to talk a few others into joining us if any cabins open up.

Carol - was terrific meeting you and Bob - how very nice of you to come all the way just to see us!:) Plus Bob was so very nice to give us a quick tour and ride to the Inner Harbour of Vancouver to catch our bus to Butchart Gardens. Thank you again Bob & Carol for your generous spirit!

Norma

Norma, it was nice to meet you and Mike also, Bob did not mind driving you down to the Inner Harbour he thought you guys were nice and he would do it again:)

We went down to see the Radiance on Sunday and we took pictures I will try and put some pictures on here this weekend as soon as I get Bob to help me with it, they are working 24/7 on her and you can hear all the banging going on:eek:

Carol & Bob it was so sweet of you two to come and meet us all.

Martha looks like the OLL list is growing, by the time we get there we'll be taking over the place.

Norma & Mike last night Larry opened our patio door and our neighbor's wind chime was making a wonderful sound and we both looked at each other and smiled. So it was 5:00 and we had a glass of wine and toasted you guy's. :);)

Rose & Larry

Rose, we too enjoyed meeting you guys and we would do it again:cool:

Hi, is it Rick or Deannie that posts? We are planing on flying out on the 19th as that will give us 3 nights for a hotel in Hawaii and then the 4th night will be on the ship so that gives us 5 days in Hawaii, we may take the early plane and we would get into Hawaii about 11AM so we have the whole day there but let us know when you fly out as we might be on the same plane and can take transportation together to the hotel:cool:

From what I have researched, if you buy the train tickets, there is minimal delay at the border. It is the buses that can be delayed for hours.

Good morning all:D

Welcome Rick and Deannie - we met your great sister and brother-in-law on our last cruise - had lots of fun:) This cruise will be even better because it is longer!

We did the train from Vancouver to Seattle a couple of weeks ago after our Radiance cruise - loved it! You can't be in a hurry as it takes about 4 hours, but the countryside is beautiful and the train very comfortable. I would suggest that you upgrade to Business class - a bit more room to move around in & larger seating areas. We will definitely be doing this again. We also found it much cheaper to do the train and then fly from Seattle to Oakland than to fly directly from Vancouver to Oakland - by 60% The delay at the border was indeed very minimal.

Sounds like everyone is getting wonderful hotel rates - unfortunately we have to wait until our travel partners get back from their "super" vacation in three weeks. Hopefully there will still be some deals left;)

Carol - we collect windchimes from each cruise we go on and hang them from the wood structure/house that is over our hot tub. Great memories. Got a beautiful leaf one in the Gardens.

Hi Norma! Thanks for verifying what I had read! :D We are also looking forward to this part. Did you spend the night in Vancouver and take the am train or did you take the evening train?

Martha,

We stayed at the Sheraton Wall Centre (got it on Hotwire for $124.00! - great deal) and spent the day in Vancouver doing the Hop On/Hop Off Bus - great fun! Walked or bussed everywhere - Vancouver is such a beautiful place and we were blessed with perfect weather.

We took the AM train the next morning. There is no need to be at the train station any earlier than 5:30 (we got there at 4:50am  because our Concierge said we needed to due to Customs - no Customs until you are in route) as the ticket agents are not there until then. If possible it is also a good idea to get your tickets in advance instead of at Will Call (that guy didn't show up until around 6:15, making it a bit stressfull for those of us who are very "structured":p) You want to stand in the line with your group if you want to sit together or on the same train car, as that is how they assign seats. You can bring food & drink on board or buy it there. Still a great experience.

Waikiki Beach Marriott? lol

Jeannie called yesterday to see what type of room that got us and it is a garden / city view room. She asked if we could upgrade to an ocean or partial ocean view room and was told that is would be $80 a day to get the partial and $209 a day to get the ocean view on top of what we already paid. So garden / city view it is....lol :) $95 a day is too good of a rate to pass up even if it is only a garden / city view room!!!

Ryan, for $95 a day it is worth the garden / city view and I am sure we could sit out front and see a lot also, maybe they have a bar out front, now I have to go look at what is there:eek:

Carol, I agree, for $95 a night, they can put is a room with a view of the air conditioner. Just so it's quiet enough to sleep in, lol!:D

Our flight from Toronto gets in to YVR at 12:07 so it is a nice 2 hours to relax before flying out to HNL. We could fly on a earlier flight from Toronto but it would be the same flight to HNL with a 4 hour lay over in YVR. We are currently looking a booking a car (convertible :D) in Hawaii. I would offer you a ride to the hotel but I know that with 2 large bags and 2 people a mustang is loaded right up.....lol Funny thing is I'm buying one this weekend. Here is a pic of my new ride

Ryan, I just booked a car in Hawaii through Priceline, we booked a small car and we get it for $84.00 for 3 days, I think we would have pad more for buses and taxis so I am very happy, now I am going out to get those shrimps at the shrimp truck at least 2 times:eek::D:p

From what I have researched, if you buy the train tickets, there is minimal delay at the border. It is the buses that can be delayed for hours.

We are also looking into taking the train. :)

Good to know, we will give it some more thought. I'm pretty organized and get stressed about getting to airports on time so I was concerned about potential delays at the border making us miss our flight. We haven't decided whether to get off the train in Seattle or Portland. Southwest flights to SLC from both cities are about the same price. I checked business class on AMTRAK and found with senior discount for DH and AAA discount for me it would be under $200 for both of us which we thought was reasonable.

On our last Radiance cruise we sailed out of Vancouver BC and stayed at Sutton Place the night before. We got it on Hotwire for $100 per night. It is a beautiful 5 star hotel. They have some rooms with 2 oversized twin beds that you get for the Hotwire or Priceline rate, but who cares for 1 night at that price. We will have to see if we can get that again if we decide to do the train home.

Thanks again to everyone for all the information!:D I guess I'd better get busy and find a rental car for our 3 days before the cruise before you have them all reserved - LOL.

Good morning, all!

Sounds like we will all mostly be staying at the Marriott so far! Good to know! :D We will have fun meeting everyone precruise!

Carol- I didn't see a thing about your link! :D:D

DH and I were talking and we are leaning towards staying overnight in Vancouver and taking the early am train back to Seattle. Would probably be flying out the next day so we will be able to see a little of Seattle....need to see how cheap we can get flights and hotels. Hope we can luck out like we did in HNL.

Thanks again to whomever first posted about the Marriott and Priceline! :D

Angela
Hi,

Can you please explain the Priceline bidding process? Is it the same as blind booking?
Also do you know in which port the Radiance will be in?

Thanks!

We will probably fly out of Bellingham, Wash. because we are just 10 min. from the border, then 25 min from Bellingham. Its 179 one-way right now.

Here is the update for Radiance Refurbishment on the go right now in Victoria:

Radiance will have 15 new cabins, three of which will be single rooms requiring no singles supplement charges, and the rest being additional outside, ocean view, staterooms.

A large outdoor poolside movie screen will be set up on the pool deck for watching movies at night and other kinds of programming during the day.

There will be seven new dining options added to the ship ....
Samba Grill, (Brazilian Charascurria)- a unique way of cooking large cuts of meat on a turning spit high above a heat source. The juices melt in the slow cooked meat after hours of turning. Dinner guests can request cuts of the meat taken directly off of the fire and brought to the table by the waiter at any time. The waiter holds the steel shaft and cuts slices off directly onto the plate of the guest. The pp/ charge will be $25.
Rita's Cantina (Mexican)- a standard Mexican food eatery which comes with mariachi singers and other special entertainment. There is an a la carte menu - no reservations.
Giovanni's Table (Italian), features family-style servings of Italian favorites; $15 lunch and $29 dinner, per person.
Park Café (Deli)- a traditional New York style deli, with table seating, self service and no cover charge. You can get freshly sliced deli meat sandwiches as well as bakery items and delicious specialty coffees.
Izumi (Sushi)- a Japanese restaurant with sushi, sashimi and more Japanese style food; menu is a la carte priced.
Boardwalk Dog House (Hot dogs)- an all-you-can-eat, Coney Island style hot dog stand. No cover charge for the dogs. You can get them with any traditional accoutrement you desire; sauerkraut, mustard, relish, catsup, onions, etc.
Chef's Table (High end restaurant)- will be the more specialized restaurant featuring fine steaks and other gourmet offerings; a $95 pp cover charge - alcohol included. Reservations are required since this is sold out every night of every cruise before the sail date.
Quill & Compass (Bar)- a new British-style pub.

A brand new Diamond Lounge and Concierge Lounge for Crown & Anchor Society members will also be included.

Wi-fi will be "enhanced" to make it more available throughout the ship. Interactive televisions to be added to staterooms will allow passengers to book shore-tours, order room service or check their onboard spending balance at any time.

Radiance will also receive a Royal Babies & Tots Nursery to handle children as young as six months old with special babysitting, napping and changing services.

First of all....THANK YOU and Bob for coming to the pier to meet us last month...it was good to put a face with a name. I'm excited about travelling with this group of nutz!

Had a great cruise to Alaska and a great land tour after that. Got home last night and back to work this morning.

So...when you use Priceline..do you pay the price at the time the bid is accepted? Is it cancellable/refundable if plans get changed?

Nancy and I will be flying in the Saturday before the cruise ( not a lot of extra vacation days next year ) and will be looking for a semi-affordable hotel for the night....

Hi Carol,
Thanks for the offer to help. I've just spent some time reviewing the Waikiki area's hotels and made note of some. Then I checked out Priceline again, and finally figured out how it works. Since I prefer to have a choice I think I will leave it for now. I've pegged several hotels for price drop alerts and will wait to see the results. I haven't booked our flight yet so that will have to be done before hotel reservations.

I looked up Haute Dogs, and it is so close to the pier! Please tell me about the lobster dog? Is it only available on Friday? Can we get a group together from the Marriott??;)

Lobster Dog was featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives (a show on food network) It is a Lobster sausage seared in butter then dressed with garlic aioli, relish and pickled takuan radish. Sounds so good and it is only available on Friday. We can not wait to try one, or two....lol

Since we have been discussing food in Hawaii, I will add a favorite. It is at Duke's, either in Kauai or Honolulu, and it is an appetizer, macadamia nut and crab won tons. A little piece of heaven, especially when washed down with a Mai Tai, lol!

Wow that sounds great!! I'm so hungry....lol

Hi Karen, the Haute Dogs are also in the International Market Place so we can walk there from the Hotel:cool:

Hello Everyone, I had a slow computer this morning so I gave up and we went out for a drive to Victoria to get my Cruise Travel Magazine and I saw the Radiance again:eek::cool::p

Carol:)

IMP location does not have the daily specials like the Lobster Dog :( Only the main location!!

Carol- You made me smile with this one! Have a great weekend! :D

Thank you Martha, I really enjoy doing it;)

Carol- That is a wonderful idea to include the hotels in the roll call, if Sandy is up to it! :D

It will be nice meeting some of you around the hotel just like on the ship:cool:

Be glad to add hotels to the Roll Call. Does anyone have a list? If not, I'll just go back and add those that have stated so on the thread.

Looks like many of you will be staying at the Marriott. I wonder if those of us who are going into Sydney will have such good luck on Priceline? Better go to the other thread to find out??

Thanks Sandy, now you will have more work to do "Sorry" but thank you:)

WEEKS UNTIL WE VISIT GIOVANNI'S SHRIMP TRUCK! YES, CAROL, IT IS TIME TO VISIT GIOVANNI'S!

(MOST TRAVEL DESTINATIONS ARE KNOWN FOR SOME KIND OF PROVINCIAL FARE THAT'S SERVED FRESH FROM THE LAND OR SEA- AND IS ALL THE BETTER PURCHASED FROM A ROADSIDE STAND.

ON O'AHU, IT'S JUMBO PRAWNS, FARMED IN KAHUKU ON THE NORTH SHORE AND SERVED FROM SHRIMP TRUCKS AND SHACKS. THE DRIVE FROM THE CITY TO THE NORTH SHORE IS PART OF THE DRAW. GRADUALLY, THE URBAN LANDSCAPE GIVES WAY TO A PICTURESQUE COUNTRYSIDE EDGED BY BEACHES AND SLEEPY HAMLETS.

SHRIMP TRUCKS VARY BE ESTABLISHMENT, BUT IF YOU GET THERE IN TIME FOR LUNCH, THERE SHOULD BE PLENTY TO CHOOSE FROM. ONE OF THE OLDEST TRUCKS IS GIOVANNI'S, WHERE YOU CAN GET TWO SCOOPS OF RICE AND 12 PIECES OF SHRIMP FOR $12.

GIOVANNI'S, LIKE MOST OF THE NORTH SHORE SHRIMP VENDORS, OFFERS A CHOICE OF SHRIMP DISHES. SHRIMP SCAMPI IS A POPULAR FAVORITE, BUT YOU CAN GET GARLIC SHRIMP, SHRIMP WITH LEMON AND BUTTER, HOT AND SPICY SHRIMP AND SHRIMP TEMPURA.

YOU'LL DINE AT PICNIC TABLES ON PAPER PLATES AND PAY $1 FOR SODA FROM THE CAN.

THE EXTERIOR OF THE TRUCKS, WHICH HAVE SEEN BETTER DAYS, ARE DECORATED TO REFLECT THE PERSONALITY OF THEIR OWNERS. GIOVANNI'S IS COVERED IN GRAFFITI, THE RESULT OF THOUSANDS OF SCRIBBLED NOTES LEFT BY PATRONS.

TO GET THERE, TAKE KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY(HIGHWAY 83) TO KAHUKU.)

Someone PLEEEZE talk me out of switching from this cruise to the April 5th Hawaii RT on Celebrity on April 5th...

Tell me how it's gonna cost me an additional $1000, how we lose 2 days in Hawaii. how we'll be out of town on Easter Sunday, how we'll have to burn even more vacation days....and how much I'd miss hanging out with the Nutz!!!

Oh well.....never mind! I think I just talked myself out of it.

NOW...I need someone to talk me out of staying on Radiance once we reach Vancouver for the first week of Alaska ( seeing how we just got back from 12 nights up there...)

I don't think I've shared this one.....

An old couple ( much older than any of us) were cruising back to the states on a TA cruise.

In the middle of the Atlantic, on a very stormy night, the wife is swept overboard! Despite all efforts, her body is never found.

Two years later.....the grieving widower gets a letter from the cruiseline.
The letter included good news and bad news...

The bad news.......the coast guard finally found the body and she was, in fact, dead.

The good news...while going through her jacket looking for ID, they found an oyster which held a pearl worth $200,000!

The letter asked the old guy what his wishes were...

He replied..."Please send me the pearl and re-bait the trap!!!"

Have a good week, Nutz!!!....

Good Morning Steve, stay with us, remember my friends that came to visit, they were on the Celebrity cruise ship and that is the one you met in San Francisco, well she is not going to book another Celebrity cruise for a while she said she will stay with RCCI so if you switch you will be sorry:eek:

Bob and I enjoyed meeting you and Nancy and it would not be the same for you to not sail with us and we would miss all your funnies so please don't even think of changing to another cruise:eek:

Now for Alaska, you can go another time as you just came back from there, I would go to Hawaii for 2 or 3 nights and skip Alaska;)

You can get a Flight out of Bellingham, WA for $200.00 one way to Hawaii and no stops so how is that for a deal:D

An old couple ( much older than any of us)(lucky you said that) were cruising back to the states on a TA cruise.

In the middle of the Atlantic, on a very stormy night, the husband is swept overboard! Despite all efforts, his body is never found.

Two years later.....the grieving widow gets a letter from the cruiseline.
The letter included good news and bad news...

The bad news.......the coast guard finally found the body and he was, in fact, dead.

The good news...while going through his jacket looking for ID, they found an oyster which held a pearl worth $200,000!

The letter asked the old Lady what her wishes were...

She replied..."Please send me the pearl and re-bait the trap!!!"

Have a good week, Nutz!!!....

Good one Steve but I fixed it for you:D:eek::p

Just checking in. It is finaly starting to get warm here, yesterday it was around 95-97 deg. Oh well so much for the nice house hunting weather. It sure is windy though. Had son-in-law stop in from Montana on the way to a business trip. Now he is talking about trying to find a networking/cable job here so they can move back closer to family. Just has to find the right job. Sure would be nice to have them back with the grandkids. We will just have to wait and see.;)

I love 'Triple D' and can't believe I missed this one! The lobster dog sounds marvelous!

Hi Everyone

This is the first time I have even stopped by CC in sooooo long. Middle son was accepted to U of T Teachers' College and there are 4 days between when he returns from working for Princess (he left June3) and the day he starts big boy school:D So needless to say much time was spent actually enjoying his time home for a month before he left and helping him figure out everything so it is a painless transition for all of us when he returns.

We are also in the process of working out the details of remodelling our kitchen, living room and dining room right now into one larger room. Wow talk about a lot of work. I may need therapy. It was to take place Aug/Sept and now looks like it has been put off til October due to a previous commitment by the builder. Now I have some breathing room so no problem.

We have the flights booked and will fly into Honolulu June 20, 2012 and most likely will stay at the Marriott Courtyard.

Well now have to run AGAIN and do some errands then home to work out.

Hope everyone is well!

Carol, Thanx for making the appropriate changes in the joke...lol!
Sandy, Rick and I (Bella Days) and Judy and David (Chickalo) are staying at the BeachComber Waikiki. (we are very lucky that Rick has Points to use for a couple of free nights at any Holiday Inn)
We are flying to HonoLulu on the 19th as well. Too bad,Carol,..that our one stop over is in Calgary and not Vancouver.
Both Chickalo and ourselves are celebrating our Anniversary.
(Fun note....Judy and David were married on the same day, same time, same year same city as us. We didn,t even know each other at the time. Only met when our children went to elementary school.) May 3/80 at 4pm. We shall celebrate together again next May.
Hope everyone has a great week and enjoys the sun.

That was pretty good:) BUT I don't really think that there is help for the problem, I'm speaking from experience! Note to self, never type a serious message that involves dates and/or thinking when you are doing other things and trying to get out of the office at the same time.

Sooooo I would say a more appropriate date for the flight is actually April 20, 2012. My excuse is that it is June now and I'm sticking to it:D

This kitchen stuff is making me totally nuts!!!!!! So, therefore, I am going to disregard the things that I should be doing on my lunch today and I am going out for lunch with my gf:D

Hi Again
Wow 2 days in a row. Somehow I think there should be a medal or something:D

Middle Son is a Youth Counsellor with Princess. We call him Tigger cause he is bouncy bouncy bouncy and has the attention span of a fruit fly like his mommy! He absolutely loves Princess, but he comes from a very very different perspective as a crew member than we do as cruisers. We did one Princess Cruise on the Star and hated it, especially the poor service that we had. We do love RCI. He is on the Caribbean Princess out of NY. They do 2 itineraries I believe each are 9 days. This week he is doing Caribbean and Bermuda and the next one will be Canada New England. They just flip back and forth.

Haven't heard from him yet, so chances are good that things are going great. He knows people from all over the world now and was meeting up with some girls of course that he had worked with before. My little boy is very popular it seems!!!!!!!! What usually happens is if things are wonderful we get no emails, if things suck I get an email novel. I've really only had the novel on one contract when he was on the ship that went to the Mexican Riviera and some of the people in the Youth area were not so nice. My son is a kid magnet, anywhere you go if there are children they are immediately drawn to him and he can usually calm even the most upset child. They use him in every age level. He starts Teachers college in the fall, he will make an absolutely superlative teacher who definitely knows how to help and motivate children. Kinda proud can you tell:D

I love these dancing numbers and can't wait to experience Hawaii. We arrive late on the 19th but plan to spend the 20th - 23rd seeing all we can of Oahu and especially eating Shrimp at the shrimp trucks. I've also heard of something called malasadas that are supposed to be good. Better lose a lot of weight before this cruise!

Add two more to The Waikiki Beach Marriott. Wife and I just booked thru Priceline for $95.00, thanks for the tip regarding this location with Priceline. So please add Mike and Cathy to the Marriott list. We will be staying 4-20 & 4-21 before boarding ship 4-22.

We haven't booked flights yet, but doing research it appears we won't arrive in Honolulu until 9:00 PM so I'm thinking about not renting a car until 4-21 and keeping it until 4-23 when we actually set sail. I know the resort doesn't have a shuttle and was wondering if anyone knows best way (cheapest) to get from airport to resort and back again Saturday to get rental car?

Also, wife and I are planning on only renting car in Honolulu and Maui since we overnight there. For the other locations, has anyone booked private tours or is everyone renting cars in all ports and doing there own thing? Have been doing some research regarding private tours and they seem expensive so was wondering what the rest of cruisers were planning. If anyone has booked private tours, please let me know as we would consider joining and splitting costs.

Now for Alaska, you can go another time as you just came back from there, I would go to Hawaii for 2 or 3 nights and skip Alaska;)

You can get a Flight out of Bellingham, WA for $200.00 one way to Hawaii and no stops so how is that for a deal:D

Carol:)
That's a great lead, regarding flight costs. Bellingham is 50% cheaper than flying out of Vancouver and the driving distance for us is exactly the same - less than 40 min. either way! The savings will pay for our hotel costs.

Speaking of hotels, has anyone stayed at Ilikai Hotel & Suites? Looks like a nice place, right on the water, centrally located and spacious rooms with balconies.

Hi Mike,

Just wondering about booking using Priceline...do you get your choice of rooms, bed selection, and view?

Thanks for information!:)

With Priceline, you get a good hotel at a good price (hopefully!). The tradeoff is that you do not choose your room or view. I imagine they will work with you on bed selection, if you contact them ahead of time (the hotel). It never hurts to ask about your other preferences, either!

mike2915
June 10th, 2011, 10:47 AM
HoopsandYoYo, travelgoddess is correct about Priceline. You pick the zone (beach, downtown, airport etc) you want to stay at and the star level of the hotel as determined by Priceline 1-5 stars or resort and you make an offer. Your credit card is charged if your bid is accepted and you will be given a confirmation number for your stay. Below is what one person who called resort was told about upgrading to ocean view room. My guess is most if not all rooms booked with Priceline would be garden/city view, although it never hurts to ask for a complimentary upgrade. I would think they would give you the bed selection you want. BTW, there is a no smoking policy at the hotel if that matters.
Mike

Good Morning Everyone, we are one month closer to our cruise out of Hawaii

And can anyone guess where we are staying for 3 nights in Hawaii?

Carol
Waikiki Beach Marriott? lol

Jeannie called yesterday to see what type of room that got us and it is a garden / city view room. She asked if we could upgrade to an ocean or partial ocean view room and was told that is would be $80 a day to get the partial and $209 a day to get the ocean view on top of what we already paid. So garden / city view it is....lol $95 a day is too good of a rate to pass up even if it is only a garden / city view room!!!

It's hockey night at our place, husband and son are whooping it up as the Canucks just scored!!

That leaves me(in peace) to researching hotels in Honolulu. Happened to see some reviews on TripAdvisor with a recommendation to check out VRBO - vacation rentals by owner. I'm having a field day checking out beautiful privately owned condos at the Ilikai Hotel and Suites for exceptional rates and see that April is the off season time in Honolulu so rates are good! I am currently in communication with the owner of one of the condos and hope to close on it. Will post more later. :)

Helga, I take it is Helga that does the posting? I made a bet with Bob that if Boston won he would make breakfast tomorrow morning so I guess I am making breakfast tomorrow, french toast and bacon plus fruit, I do make a good french toast:eek:

Sounds good on your looking into Ilikai Hotel but if you do decide to do priceline just let me know and I can walk you through it just e-mail me your phone number my e-mail is Bertins@shaw.ca......

Go Canucks Go!!! 1 more game to go.....They have to beat Boston!!!

Judy, next game is in Boston so we may have to wait tell game 7 for the Gray Cup for Vancouver:eek: (if you notice I said for Vancouver and not in Vancouver)

I can't believe the people outside in Vancouver as we lived in Calgary when they won the Gray Cup and there was a lot of people but not like Vancouver, even some of the stores closed early as there is to many people around, it was in our papers:eek::eek::eek:

You know we are going to win:D

Hi Carol,

Yes I'm the one doing all the "work" in planning our upcoming cruise!:)
I just had an email this morning from a friend of mine, that she was going on a cruise today. Turns out she and her husband are on the Radiance heading to Alaska as we speak!

If you were watching the hockey game did you see the intermission clip of the Radiance sailing out of Vancouver? It was approximately 7:00 pm. A beautiful evening to be sailing!

Yes the Radiance is sailing again. The next appearance in Vancouver will be June 24 (every second Friday from then on doing the Alaska runs until September). Not sure if everything was completed. Will have to wait the return of our friends for a personal update! :)

We cruised on the Liberty after it was dry docked. The big screen by the pool looked great and the touch screen LCD monitors were very helpful to find venues and navigate around the ship.

Just saw the movie Super 8 on Imax and it was awesome. I highly recommend it.

Have a great weekend

Hi everyone. Pretty bleary eyed after reading 223 pages! We didn't see this board until Rose set us straight! We booked this cruise about a year ago and are amazed at all the activity on this board. We have done this cruise 4 times on the Brilliance, Serenade, Rhapsody and Radiance. On all our Radiance class cruises we had 7108 so inuviklibrarian if you decide to take another cabin let us know! We have done many cruises on the Radiance and love her. Do we understand that the Radiance now has the concierge club for Diamond too and not just Diamond plus?

Steve - loved the talking dog joke.

We always stay at the Kahala. Used to be the Kahala Mandarin but changed hands. It shows up a lot on Hawaii 50. A great private beach setting and dolphins to boot. We will go in a few days early for pre-vacation.

Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Welcome, Ray and Sara, yes, this has been a lively group! I'm not sure that Brilliance has ever sailed in this market, at least not to my knowledge, but we have been to Hawaii on all the ships you mentioned, plus Vision and Legend, and enjoyed them all!

We have cancelled our B2b Syd-Hon and Hon-Van voyages.

Please remove us from the list.

All is not lost - we have rebooked on Celebrity Solstice for a B2B2B2B2B ( yes 4 cruises, 52 days) Auck-Syd-Syd-Hon-Ensenada (!!??) in Mar 2013.

We booked as soon as it opened in the best S2 (skysuite) we could get - same cabin all legs and it was 'way cheaper that the Radiance. We'll miss some old acquaintances and would love to see the 20M$ re-do on one of our favorite ships!

The whole ships re-do is on You Tube - I almost cried seeing what they did to the Sea View.....

We won't need the 4 pins:(

Ray & Sara

Welcome to this zany group of Nutz!.......Care to tell us which part of Washington you're from? My "little" brother lives in Bellingham and I have customers all over the state...

Been thinking as hard as I can ( on a Sunday) and I don't remember a talking dog joke........Maybe you can repeat the punchline or I'll need to scroll back through the zillions of pages to try and find it......

Just a note about Hilo Hattie's and just my opinion:D It's a nice place to walk through but quite expensive. We went to the one in Lahaina then took the free shuttle to Walmart and saw much of the same stuff for way less money. Just sayin':D

In case anyone hasn't booked a place pre-cruise you may want to check out the privately owned suites at the Ilikai Hotel and Suites as mentioned in my earlier posting. We've extended our stay in Honolulu to 6 days from 3 because of the great deal we got for one of the condos. I didn't realize at first that floors 20 and up were hotel rooms and the lower units are privately owned and can be rented. Lots of ammenities and choices available.

And tonight is game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals! I heard on the weekend that last September a computer program predicted the series with a high degree of accuracy and that tonight the Canucks will lose, but game 7 they will win! Win the Stanley Cup that is!:)
Guess we'll see..

Forgive me Steve, I just had to post this one,, my sister sent it to me:

A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale ' He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

'You talk?' he asks.
'Yep,' the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says 'So, what's your story?'

The Lab looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.'
'I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down.. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.' 'I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired..'

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

'Ten dollars,' the guy says.

'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?'
'Because he's a liar. He never did any of that stuff. (Actually I put in the word "stuff" it should have read s@#$:D)

This story reminds me of the town we live in:eek:

I haven't posted for a while but have been keeping up with the posts. Great job list keepers, number posters and joke tellers.

We haven 't decided when we are going to Hawaii yet but will probably go at least 5 days early and are tossing around the idea of flying to the Big Island for a few days to explore the volcanoes and the observatory - then back to Honolulu for a day or two before we sail.

Some of the best meals we have ever had have been in specialty restaurants on cruise ships!! Portofino's, Chop's, Giavani's Table, and Sabatini's are all amazing!!! We are so excited to try Samba Grille for the first time and go to Giavani's Table for a 2nd time. The cover charge is mostly for the gratuity for your servers. I will agree that charging both a cover and ala cart is a bit much!!! We will try Rita's for sure. If you are a foody like my wife and I you should try one as you will not be disappointed!!

Bev - 7108 has a great balcony - have stayed in 9092 which has the extended length - lots of room and usually has 2 lounger chairs. Never once heard noises from the elevators - and so convenient being mid-ship. We are in an aft on deck 10 for this leg.....lots of walking for us.....but with all of that "exercise" I can have an extra dessert!!!!

Carol - my condolences on the Stanley Cup......hope that you weren't near or effected by the street rioting. Sometimes fans get too "fanatical"!!!!

Hello everyone - Haven't been around for a awhile, life and work has gone into overdrive here the last 6 months. But I hope to be able to go back and read and get caught up.

Hoopsandyoy mentioned the flights out of Vancouver. I've had a Kayak alert for the last 6 months and when that one come up Tuesday, I jumped! We are booked for Thursday, April 19th. Only 249.00 total for one way! We'll drive up to Vancouver the fast way from Vegas and take the Pacific Coast HYWY on the way back with some stops in Napa.

On our itinerary, it shows the 22nd as boarding date, but we don't leave Honolulu till the next day at 5:00. Am I reading that correctly?

Hi Carol! Looking forward to meeting you and Bob. What a coincidence that you were booked on Liberty!

We actually didn't make it to Victoria on Radiance last time ... we got off in San Diego, and then it did the 5-day heading north. But we've been to Victoria several times, and to Nanaimo; just love Vancouver Island!

Currently Air Canada is offering flights to Honolulu for less than 1/2 of what the cost of flights were before yesterday. Maybe it is because of the current strike by Air Canada's customer service employees. There is also mention that other airlines will be bumping up prices because of the strike. Friends that are cruising with us booked their flights with A.C. yesterday and mentioned that seat choices also included the "preferred seats" with more leg room in coach or economy.

And to Jan: Yes the Radiance is in port overnight on the 22 and then sailing on the evening of the 23. From information gathered on other posts, you are free to come and go all night! This will be a first for us.
