Booked at the Radisson in Norfolk in early March. Have read both pros and cons re this hotel. Would appreciate feedback from anyone who has been there recently. Thanks.

We stayed there the night before the Dec. 11 Maasdam sailing, on the park and cruise special. If you have realistic expectations it's a reasonable place to stay. I'd probably give it 2 1/2 stars. Room was older, free breakfast buffet pretty basic, but, hey, we were headed for the luxury of the ship afterwards! Free wireless internet and parking for the duaration of the cruise were great. Shuttle to the ship was efficient, but it was easier to return via cab than to wait in the large, disorganized shuttle line to return to the hotel. I was a bit nervous about leaving the car in this neighborhood, but all was fine. Would definitely recommend checking your car with their valet parking service; it's well worth the price of the tip to know that someone is looking after your car.

SLois, Thanks so much for your info. I don't expect real luxury out of the pre-cruise hotel, just clean, decent breakfast & shuttle to the ship, so this sound fine. Mostly concerned about a safe place to leave the car. How did the Valet parking work? Do they put your car in a different area than the regular parking lot? Again, thanks for your input - I really appreciate it.

The parking lot surrounds the hotel. Large portions of the lot were unoccupied. The parking spaces nearest the front door are for non-valet guests. Valet-parked cars were reportedly placed in the back of the hotel, but I didn't have an opportunity to observe/confirm this. The main entrance is up a steep hill from the parking lot, so it's inconvenient to self-park. We asked the front desk if it was required to use valet parking with the park and cruise package (because we were concerned about leaving our keys). They said valet is not required, but recommended. Apparently this is a flood plain and leaving keys allows your car to be moved to safety if needed. As noted earlier, this did not seem to be the best neighborhood. Don't know if I'd want to bring a flashy, luxury car, but we had no problems with our dirty Toyota.

SLois, Thanks. The "leaving the keys" thing is the first concern that my husband had when I read him your post, but being a flood-plain, which I hadn't thought about at all, makes it reasonable. We have a year-old Honda Accord (and a "dirty" 14 year-old Honda Accord...maybe we should take it instead....).
