A co-worker is booked on an overnight cruise from Vancouver to Seattle (first cruise...I talked her into it). It's room 3398, which has a fully obstructed view.
I assume that means that a lifeboat is 100% against the window.
My question: Is there *ANY* benefit of that class of room vs an inside room ?
I've never been in both, so have no idea.
Gracias in advance to those who know :).

In the obscured rooms you normally can look lft or right to see the ocean. It's better than an inside because it lighter because light does enter your room via the window. I think there is also a better chance the upgarde fairy will visit if you are a outside cabin compared to being in an inside cabin. Just my opinion no facts to back it up. Also you are able to go out on the lower promenade easily from your room 3398. Take care.

I may be mistaken, but I think the obstruction is the actual steel wall of the ship for this cabin, across the walking track from the window.

You will get daylight in your window....and if you are at all claustrophobic it is an opening to the outside world.

You are correct. On the Amsterdam (on all the S- and R-class ships) the obstruction is not a lifeboat---it's the hull of the ship itself. Barocl is also correct saying that by looking in one direction, or the other, sea and sky can easily be seen. There's plenty of light (even at night, as the lights outside are left on), and you can determine the weather.

I'm stupid..how can there be light when the hull is there ? IE is there a window there or is the room windowless ? And if there IS a window, how can it be the hull ? sorry to be so dense.......

It is just a portion of the ship wall that is there in front of the window......there is light coming onto the promenade deck from either side of this wall where it is open to the sea.

That room is on lower promenade deck and has a window. The window will look out onto and across the promonade deck which is a walkway around the whole perimeter of the ship. Unfortunately it will not look over the railing because there is a wall at the forward and afte ends of the ship instead of a railing.
But a nice thing about being on lower promonade deck is that there is very easy access to the outside world; the doors to the outside promonade walkway deck are just a few steps away when you leave your cabin and walk down the hallway a little bit. You won't have to go up or down any stairs or elevators to go outside.:)

We are in HH3381 on June 28th to Alaska. Excited about the access to the Promenade but I am wondering about noise from the deck above. We seem to be underneath a galley of some kind. Do you know anything about this?
