Have a concern after reading so many bad reviews of cruises on ships following drydock.
Does someone know the schedule for the Noordam?

It will be in drydock next January, the first cruise (which we booked on board this February but transferred to the Maasdam) will be February 6, 2011.
Hope this helps!

As long as they don't mucky up the Explorations Cafe and library, and move it to the Crow's Nest as they've done on other Vistas, it should be cool.
They do seem to operate using "trial and error" though: The Veendam and Statendam a case in point.
And, changes made some of the other Vistas which have gone over like a lead balloon with pax!

I was told that the Noordam is not due for dry dock until 2012 and that she is chartered for January and part of February 2011. Now I am curious about which is correct.

Hmmmmm....I really can't answer that. I remember being told on board in February that she is going in for drydock this year. Her inaugural was January 2006, so this January, she'll have been in service for 5 years. She's looking a little tired; it seems to be about time for refreshing!
I hope they just repaint, recarpet, refurbish a ship that is perfect in every way...just needing a bit of refreshing from what I can see.

The Destination Calender shows Noordam to be "under construction" the first half of Jan, 2011.
Perhaps the charter is the second half.

I agree, carpet, upholstery and paint, maybe update the lido? Other than that leave her alone:rolleyes: BTW Innlady, I notice we have both been on the Noordam several times and sometimes for 20 days. Amazing that we have always been on just before or after each other!

Where do you find a Destination Calendar? Yikes - if it is saying "under construction" I wonder what they are planning to do to the Noordam. I agree - no Exploration Cafe relocation!

There two jazz cruise charters the last two weeks of January. Evidently there is another charter from 31 Jan- 6 Feb.

All dry-docks are called "under construction", whether major or minor.

All ships must go to drydock every 18-24 months for inspection and service below the waterline. Most ships also get whatever other repairs, both major and minor, done at this time.
Others will tell you what the upgrades and updates involve.

What Noordam cruises have you been on? She is a beautiful ship! We're doing the Maasdam this year because of the wonderful itinerary, but I have to say, I'd be happy sailing the Noordam every winter!
Chances are, we'll be back winter of '12!

I checked that earlier tonight, John. Noordam shows the first half of January '11. So I think eldercruiser is correct! Drydock; then charters til 2/6. Bingo!
