Does HAL count 2-4 day cruises towards your total # of cruises like some of the other lines do, or do they need to be at least 7 days?

All cruises count toward your # of days sailed. Happy Sailing!

HAL counts the # of days cruising, not # of cruises. If you took a 4 day cruise HAL would add 4 to your Mariner total of days cruising with HAL.

This a real bone of contention with some folks on other cruise lines who count number of cruises toward enhanced benefit status. Their point -- rightly -- is that folks who take a coastal cruise of just a few days get the same repeat passenger accrual as one who took a month-long trip. I feel counting days is much more equitable.

I agree with you, Jim.

When HAL was taking names to decide who would be allowed to take the final voyage of the ss Rotterdam the idea was that cabins would be allocated based on number of cruises taken. I didn't have a huge number of cruises, but the ones I had were long. I didn't feel it was fair to count a 34-day cruise equivalent to a 7-day cruise, and said so to my TA.

He must have made the same point to HAL---and they must have listened---because I was granted passage on that memorable voyage.

guardhouse, you may count cruises any way you want. HAL will count days---regardless of the number of miles traveled on any day (and that was a whole other issue before the current way of awarding medals!)

Seems to me that HAL's number of cruises, days or miles traveled Award System make no difference except for maybe a couple of cocktail bashes. Booking a suite or a verandha gets you a few 'perks' although I think of those as being 'what I paid for'.

There are those who appear to ingratiate themselves, one way or another, with crew and officers and they do seem to receive 'perks'.

We've consistently cruised HAL because we like its style, (absolutely nothing to do with 'perks') and have always found the personnel to be well trained and professional. That would seem to be changing - who knows, we too may move on.
