Barb,
We all have t-shirt bodies. The t-shirts conform to our bodies :D.

"Not that there's anything wrong with that."
Donna

Especially after a week of eating all that food...or when wet.

And there's nothing wrong with that either LOL! :D

Dena

Actually, MY big plans were to join Raj and Kiran and the bunch this weekend, but Sharon's plans are to go to her niece's christening. I guess you can see just how much power and authority THIS mayor really has! But that's okay, I will make up for it on the ship! And we really have to spend some time this weekend packing (watch your filthy mind, Ed!)!

The cruise will be our celebration, and it will be made even more special surrounded by older and newer friends!

Well, as I may have mentioned, I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes, which runs in my family. I have adjusted my eating plan accordingly and I'm losing weight at a rate of 1 lb/week without really doing much but portion control and counting carbs, so....maybe next year I'll feel tshirt ready!

Steve has to be in Fort Lauderdale for work the first weekend in November and I'm planning to take the Allure of the Seas on a 7 night leaving Nov. 4th.

But if you continue to lose one pound per week, by next year you will have lost 365 pounds!

i do plan to enjoy myself on the cruise - I will be eating and drinking with moderation - I have discovered that Gin & Diet Tonic have no carbs!!!

Yes, Barb, it's all about taking care of yourself and becoming healthier. Have you been noticing it already? Will you be one of the walkers on our cruise? We usually try to do the organized 9AM walk, but informally get together early in the morning also. I really need to do it since I eat so much, I try to always take the stairs, and get into some activities.

Does anyone remember the "ShipShape" activities and ShipShape dollars they gave out for each activitiy? I really miss that, it was a motivator, even for those cheap prizes, and it got people together throughout the cruise. It was lots of fun. I wish they did not do away with it. We can still exercise, but I find that there are fewer people if there are no ShipShape dollars (or Vitality tokens, which replaced it, but soon went by the wayside as well). And unfortunately I find that I don't exercise as much without those tokens, basically because the group spirit is missing.

Anyone else feel that way?

I remember ShipShape activities & dollars and trading them in for tshirts and prizes at the end of the trip. It was a lot of fun but once they removed the incentives to show up only the really dedicated people kept showing up...and by "really dedicated" I mean the people that wanted to be able to fit into their second formal night outfit.

I may end up joining you guys for running/walking at 9. Jay & I will probably be in the gym daily either on the treadmills, using the fitness room to keep up with our karate and so on. If you want to join us, we'd love the company. We don't give out dollars or tokens though. :)

I am usually so hyperactive when we cruise, I don't gain an ounce. Seriously. I don't pack in the food, and I move around a lot running from one activity to another. If food's available all the time, why gorge, right?

Those stairs can be daunting until you get used to them, can't they? That's the worst part about the evacuation drill on Day 1 - walking up/down the stairs! Nobody's ready for that workout on Day 1!

Dena

I figure....
With thousands of people trouncing on that carpet, every day,
we ought to be nice and take the elevator as much as possible!,
SAVE-THE-CARPET!...thats my motto.

I mean....

How much weight can one LOSE in 216 hours?...really now?

I am usually so hyperactive when we cruise, I don't gain an ounce. Seriously. I don't pack in the food, and I move around a lot running from one activity to another. If food's available all the time, why gorge, right?

Dena

I agree - I don't usually gain weight either - in fact, I usually eat healthier because all the fruit and veggies are already cut up for you. My hubby however, eats sweets at every meal - we don't have sweets in our house so he goes crazy!

I do indulge in a small frozen yogurt in the afternoon! Can't wait!

Last time I worked out on a treadmill on a cruise the guy next to me fell off! I stopped right there - figuring exercise on a cruise was hazardous to my health!

Barb

Reminds me of a story...

Our first cruise was on the American Queen "steamboatin'" on the Mississippi River. As you might imagine this type of trip attracts a - let's say mature - clientele. We were in the Paddlewheeler Lounge before dinner one night having a drink, and a 75-plus-year-old guy at one of the tables keels over due backwards off his chair! I thought the poor guy was having a medical emergency! His comrades started to laugh and said, "There goes Bob again!" Apparently when Bob's had a few too many Remy Martins he goes a$$-over-teakettle off his chair! They righted him, and one of them bought him another drink, and it was like nothing happened.

Cruisers are a hardy lot! :D

On our cruise last January, a couple of women actually got into a fight over the treadmills or exercise bikes. I can't ever imagine wanting to work out that badly.

Other than walking around on deck, that's all the exercise I'm going to do. I exercise 6 days out of every week. That's enough.

That is a must for the ladies. You don't want to "bulk up" and have man arms so you need to do more reps of lighter weights, like 12 or 16 oz. at a time.

We aren't sure about the final number, just that there needed to be a minimum of 30 - we're leaving at 5:30 AM. It will take around 6 hours to get there. We drove down last Sept. and my hubby HATES to drive in cities - this is a stress free way to go!

We have TransportAzumah Cruise Shuttle in our area (Binghamton) - It's $100pp R/T. I haven't heard any reviews yet. It may be worth looking into, except there is a parking fee at the pickup area in Binghamton - unless we get someone to drop us off/pick us up.

Thank you!! Trying to stay positive but it's pretty difficult right now. I am REALLY happy for my co-worker because she deserves better treatment (and really deserves a promotion but won't ever get it here) and her new job will mean a very significant increase in salary along with her commute going to 3 miles each way rather than 25+. Hi everyone,
I am seriously debating on taking this cruise but I am alone so I'm not quite sure if I want to spend 9 days by myself. I already have a deposit from the last cruise we took when my husband was alive and I'm currently out of work so this might be a good time to take a vacation. I can surely use it!

Anyway, my name is Stacy, I've been on this ship twice before and had been tentatively planning for this ship for 11.10 but it's a lot more money and I have a budget to stick to. I live in Monmouth county so it's not going to cost me too much to get to the pier. I am 45 and my husband died in May of last year. We did not have any children. I'm very social and outgoing which is why I think I COULD do this cruise, but if I did not have anyone I could meet who plays trivia or partakes in other things I like to do it would make for a lonely 9 days. I'm also unsure about dinner, I prefer late seating.

I will see what i need to do about getting the credit released and then make a decision. In the meantime I guess if someone would be kind enough to give me a short version of the thousand or so posts here I would really appreciate it.

Amy - can she take you with her? Most of us have probably needed a break from work and unfortunately I've had to re-adjust my attitude about work - I no longer look at work email or take work phone calls at home. I let the people who make the big bucks take on the responsibility.

Don't worry about when you get back - just enjoy the break!

Hang in there. Your well deserved vacation is right around the corner.:)
Donna

And Mamapan, try not to think about what you'll be coming back to. Assume that the situation will be taken care of by the time you return. It's not your company, so it's not your problem. Don't let them lessen your good time. Laisse le bon temps rouler - let the good times roll! :p

She's a wonderful lady & I'm going to miss her but if I were her I would leave and not look back too.

Maybe she can get you a job where she's going!

I'm going to see what happens here before making any harsh decisions. the thing is that I have a LOT of flexibility here and I need to weigh that against the "cons" of working here. I almost come & go as I please right now, and while I expect that could change since we'd be down to just me, I am going to refuse to change my schedule.

I wouldn't mind working at her new employer. It's a large company with an adequately staffed legal department unlike *ahem* some other places I know of...and they may be looking for more people so you never know.

I do plan on making the most of this trip and I look forward to making the most of it with as many of the EGE crew as possible!!! :D:D

As of 20 October 2011, 90 guests have signed up for the Royal Caribbean Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle for the Explorer Of The Seas sailing on 27-Oct-2011.

Done!

Chris and I used to belong to the Island Heights yacht club when we lived in Bergenfield. We bought here in Highlands 10 years ago and then resigned from the club because we are already on the water but high enough we cannot flood.

We were on the halloween cruise in 2007, it was a lot of fun. We did the member's cruise in 2009. This will be my first cruise without Chris, we were married for just under 14 years but I was independent before I knew him so I am independent again. We used to play and win most of the trivia events and I have just about everything they USED to but no longer give away.

I do not know what my cabin is as I took a guarantee but I am happy to participate in crawls, maybe a slot pull and just about anything but I will not be dressing up in costume. I'm not even sure that I want to bring formal wear but I will have to see what I have, I have gained weight since I got laid off and I do not really want to go spend tons of money on clothes.

I am an early riser too, I hope to use that time to go to the fitness center.

I've not made any decisions about excursions. We did the ATV's in St Juan twice because it was SO much fun, went riding in samana, hung out in st thomas and did the zip line in Haiti. That was FUN! They also offered a discount off their rollercoaster thing so maybe I'll do that.

I LOVE happy hour! I love my bloody mary's late morning and I will be the person who will have lots of books with me because I am taking a literature course at Harvard and need to get through them to focus on my papers.

Okay, enough rambling for now! Look forward to catching up on the thread and trying to see who is who and maybe see a few people we might have cruised with before.

I am back from among the missing. I have been providing grief counseling for the flood victims at a local Disaster recovery Center, and last night I was on call and was out from midnight until 3PM this afternoon, had to hospitalize several people and provide some intervention for a few more.

I am TIRED!!! I should be sleeping but was fascinated by all the posts and had to catch up (we snuck past #3900 - where were you JohnBoy?). This is such a great group!

I am hoping things slow down, and I guess you can say that I am more than ready for this cruise! Talk about burning the candle at both ends, I think I found even a few more ends to burn. But I am living up to my motto, "I work hard and I play hard."

I got laid off at the end of June and it's hard, very hard, particularly being alone but we always saved money so I KNOW things will be okay for me and therefore by default they will be okay for you. That's why I forced myself to do something intellectual and enrolled in a Harvard lit course. If I have to force myself to think I don't have as much time to dwell on everything that's wrong with life.

--
Ernie - I had only been looking at the Bermuda one's because these were really expensive but it just plummeted the past few days so when I crunched the numbers it became a "you'd be stupid NOT to go". One thing is for sure, without Chris and Johnnie my on board charges will be significantly less!

Thanks for the welcome everyone else. I shall be frequenting this thread between now and departure day to learn about everyone else.

I thought that 4th weekend was epic!
Lets do it again!

So what happened was....

Raj and his wife Kiran came to our 4th party in Connecticut from London, and wanted to surprise everyone (All the EGE'ers from Upstate NY, PA, down to NJ). Apparently almost everyone CLAIMED they had it "Figured out" all along, but not all!

Ernie thought he was Skyping with Raj over the internet, when his wife Kiran came around the corner and said- "Should I not have a Labadoozie as well".

At that point Ernie turns to give her one, and for a moment, doesnt realize Karen (who was just a minute before standing next to him) is now sitting next to Raj ("In London"), and doesnt realize that Kiran ought not be there behind him now!

It happens fast, and Matt (taking the video) didnt capture that, but you Do hear it..... Matt! Hollywood is NOT calling you!! ;o)

What happened? Everyone was talking and talking yesterday (okay, typing and typing) and I thought I would wake up to exceeding post 4000, and saw only about two more posts since early evening!

However, TODAY we will surpass it!

Well done, group!!

I actually had a nice surprise last night and got home early (before 8:45pm) and got to watch Project Runway without having to worry about the DVR catching it!! I had to take advantage of that nice treat!

We'll definitely beat the 4k mark today!

I haven't watched that show in awhile. We watched "Chopped" on the Food Network. Dion loves the agony of defeat. :p

I have a cabin, forward, starboard and inside on deck 6. Yes, I shall ask when I check in about upgrades because until you are there you never really know what they will say. I presume someone is happy that their inside got upgraded to an outside :D to make room for me.

I'm happy that most of my summer wear was all washed, folded and put away. That will make most of my packing much easier! I have to go shopping for a few things but hate to shop... I will do that this weekend, besides I must get stickers and some halloween decorations to put up on the door. I've also got to find a light up clock of some sort since I won't have a glass door or window to tell me when it's light out and I am always up early.

I considered abandoning it after the witch that won last year...but I can't stay away. Jay will actually watch it with me because he is very impressed with the level of skill the competitors have. It's interesting to me because if you handed me a bunch of fabric I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to start - yet these folks can put together some cool stuff in a relatively short amount of time. I just don't have that kind of vision and it's cool to see someone who does in action.

I hear "Chopped" is good - I'm into cooking shows but haven't caught that one yet...are they too far along into the season for me to get in on it?

Fingers crossed that the upgrade fairy will sprinkle her magic dust on your reservation and improve your room location!

I didn't put any summer clothes away yet because I figured I'd do it when we got back. I'm still wearing shorts frequently anyway.

We have the RCCL "It's your birthday" door magnet from when I ordered it for Jay last year & I'll probably bring that. Not sure what else to put on the door though.

Last year we decorated the door for Halloween..last year I noticed some cabins had the Halloween door covers. When we sailed this last May, I decorated with all tropical stuff..had alot of comments on it...

When we did the Halloween cruise last time we had those miniature scarecrows, spider webs, spiders, ribbons and little trinkets from the craft store. I have a few laminated Jimmy Buffet bumper stickers but I fear if I put those on the door someone would take those!

I try to get vacation type stickers from Michaels because there are literally 5,000 different one's and then I put them on the card stock and then bring tape with me to put it on the door. I will probably then put some empty cardstock and hang a pen so anyone who wants to sign that they were there can do so :). I have always wanted to see just how many people on a cruise ship I could get to sign a "book" so I may actually bring an empty one and see how many I can get. At the very least they might have some interesting stories to share.

The decorations usually cost around $1.99 for the scarecrows and about $2.00 for a package of stickers.

I make a small magnet that I stick on the door so it's easier to find after a long evening (ahem). It usually includes my avatar and something to do with the cruise. I should have asked Ed for the little ghostie to put on there -- that would have been great.

No, not at all. Every episode is different. It's not like Project Runway where every week someone gets eliminated until they reach one final winner. Every episode starts off with 4 chefs, 3 of them get eliminated after each course is cooked. After the dessert round, 1 is chosen Chopped Champion. That's why Dion likes it; 3 for the price of 1. :D:D He's a satist.

I've been sewing all my life. Started when I was 9. Use to make uniforms and flags for the color guard (30 kids) of our town's high school marching band. Our daughter was in band and our son played football. Now that I've gotten older, I can't see to thread the needle anymore.

I will definitely check that out then. Thanks!

That's a ton of work! My mom made all my prom dresses and my wedding dress too. She made a lot of my clothes when I was young until I went to high school and it wasn't "cool" to wear homemade stuff anymore. But then she really got into knitting and made me some of the most gorgeous sweaters that I have ever owned. Now she makes them for my kids and my niece & nephew. Each of the kids treasures their special sweaters from Nana :). I gotta say I'm jealous. I don't get sweaters anymore.

She has also reached sainthood for repairing their blankies on numerous occasion. My son at age 4 was positively heartbroken when his "mimi" was full of holes and the edge was coming off. He spoke with Nana about what kind of repairs he wanted ("It should have bears and a heart on it."). I cannot tell you how thrilled he was when his blanket come back. My mom made a heart shaped applique from what she could salvage of the old fabric that had bears on it. To this day he sleeps with it ,and when we tuck him in he specifically asks for us to put the side with the heart on it down on his belly. :p
