I saw four ships arriving in New York today: Celebrity's Summit, Veendam, the Caribbean Princess and the Norwegian Dawn.

The Summit was the first to pass under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the Caribbean Princes was next in line, to be followed by the Veendam. The ships appeared to be a bit late - most likely due to high winds that started in the city Saturday afternoon. The Caribbean Princess then slowed down and was overtaken by the Veendam - most likely since it had further to travel up the Hudson River while the Caribbean Princess docked in Red Hook, Brooklyn,

The Caribbean Princess turning around with the help of two tugs in the heavy winds before backing in to the Red Hook cruise terminal:

It was a cold and very windy morning but worthwhile getting up early.

We had friends that were on the Caribbean Princess.

Two from their party were booked on a 11 am flight out of La Guardia but missed the flight. The ship came in a little late and there was apparently a problem when the ship docked, I heard something about gang plank issues. Our friends were in the 9:00 am disembarkation group and eventually got off the ship around 10:15. It took them no time to pass through customs and immigration.

It must have been quite a ride home with this wind! We went to Greenport today and there were ocean-like waves on the sound and even our harbor in Northport had whitecaps that were showing spray!

We where on the Veendam which did arrive about 45 min later than expected due to the wind and also heavy maritme port traffic in the NY Harbor. All of the cruise ships (4) were comming home from there last port which was Bermuda. The Summit departed on Thursday, and NCL Dawn, Veendam, CB departed on Friday :) We also took some nice pix of the CB as she sailed under the VZ. jpg files are to large to download on CC :)

Great pictures! Thanks!
I see that the Prinsendam will make a rare call at NYC this week. Just think, HAL will briefly have two ships in Bermuda enroute to NYC.

We were on the Summit and returned yesterday on time. Customs was easy but we were about 20 minuters late getting off the ship. Veendam didn't tender in St Georges, 2 weeks in a row. Looks like HAL can't deliver what they sell. I was originally booked on the Veendam and glad I switched to the Summit. It was wonderful!. Kathi

Just returned from the 5/2 to 5/9 voyage and had 4 full days at Hamilton. We were happy
that they did cancel St. George. Would take docking in Hamilton over the dockyard at anytime as we did both many times :)

LOL. HAL delivered MORE than they sold! 4 days docked in Hamilton and no tendering!! Can't do better than that. Would anyone in their right mind have preferred 2 days tendering in StG over being docked in Hamilton?

Where did the Summit dock or tender and for how long? I wouldn't take a Bermuda cruise if it was at the Dockyard, so I hope you weren't.

All those other ships, aside from Veendam WERE at Dockyard! Must have been really fun with the mobs of humanity!!! I would take the Veendam with tendering any day over that!

My issue is that Hal sold the cruise as one thing and delivered something different. I use a wheelchair and I was booked on the Veendam. When I booked, they were to dock both places. When things changed to tendering in St George, I had to cancel rather than be trapped both days on the ship. If Hal had changed itin and sold 4 days in Hamilton, I wouldn't have cancelled since I would have been able to get on and off the ship in Hamilton at will but I couldn't take a chance. I'm bitter about it because I lost a considerable amount of money as a result which couldn't be recouped. Insurance which I had to cancel and they wouldn't refund or tranfer and travel agency which had its own cancellation penalties. Neither of which will I use again. However the only crowds or hoards of people I saw were when we went over to Hamilton to walk/ride around. My original balcony cabin would have been on the Front st side which appeared to be very noisy. That being said I loved the Summit. Kathi
