I'm sure that someone has an idea about how to handle this. My husband and I will be renewing our vows on the Alaska Inside Passage cruise later in the month. There will be a group of 12 of us and we wanted to host a dinner at Pinnacle Grill following the ceremony. I've been trying to get information about the date and time of the vow renewal for months, and today I got the info.
7:30 p.m. the last night of the cruise. Blech. But I was also advised that the time might change. Should I make Pinnacle Grill reservations for 5:00 p.m now? I guess we could avoid the aweful (in my opinion) Master Chef Dinner. Should I make the reservations for another night?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Personally I would not be able to relax and enjoy dinner until AFTER the renewal of vows -- I'd be looking at the time constantly, thinking "should we go now, do we have time for dessert, where's that server, what's the hold-up?"
If someone in your group has a nice balcony cabin, what about canapes and some cocktails in that cabin, before the renewal of vows, then dinner AFTER? Of course, I have no idea how long the ceremony is expected to take, or how late the PG reservations can be.

Congratulations on your vow renewal. I've booked the vow renewal on our upcoming cruise on Oosterdam as well. It sounds like you will be able to avoid the Master Chef Dinner anyway which is a plus, I hope ours is scheduled for that night for that very reason. If you don't mind me asking, how did you find out what night they have scheduled for the vow renewal? Did you just email or call HAL or a particular department.
Did HAL give you some idea how long the vow renewal ceremony lasts? I think they serve champagne and hors d'oeuvres before the ceremony so if it is an hour or so, sounds like a perfect opportunity for a late dinner in the Pinnacle to cap off the evening!

Hi. Will you be on the Zuiderdam? That's where we renewed our vows last July, with Captain Turner. It was a wonderful ceremony, and we had a great time. We had dinner afterwards, but we had only 4 people to schedule. The captain sets the time of the vow renewal ceremony, and it's quite possible that it will change. Ours did. I think I would go ahead and make reservations, especially since you have a large party. When you get on board, go to the Pinnacle and explain your situation to the maitre d'. I'm sure he'll work with you as much as possible. That's what I'd do, anyway. If you have access to the Neptune Lounge, you can bug them about the date and also get help with the PG reservations. However, I would still go talk to the maitre d' as soon as you can.
Have a lovely and meaningful ceremony, and I hope it all works out to your satisfaction!

Ours was about an hour, even though we were the only couple. We had two guests, and in addition to the captain, we were joined by someone from the front office and a couple of staff members. We had Champagne and hors d'oeuvres before and after the ceremony, plus the cake afterwards. We were glad that we had a while before dinner! We ate in the PG, and one of my crab cakes tried to fly, landing halfway across the room. It had nothing to do with the Champagne!
Enjoy your ceremony!

I am very surprised to learn that the renewal of vows ceramony will held on the last evening of the cruise. There is so much going on the last night what with everyone packing and getting ready to get off the ship.
Others who have talked about this event indicated that it was held on about the 3rd or 4th night of the cruise -- depending on the itinerary.

Thanks for the responses. We decided to book dinner in PG at 5:30 and we'll head over to the vow renewal after dinner and have cake and bubbles there. We didn't want to start dinner at 8:30 or 9:00 on the last night because people are busy packing up and my hubby and I want to enjoy some dancing in the Ocean Bar. I will check with Neptune Lounge as soon as we embark to ensure that the date and time hasn't changed, and if it did, we'll get the PG reservations changed then. I hope they can change up a group of 12!
Here's another quick ?--Is there music at the vow renewal? I think I read about a string trio, but I'm not exactly sure.
Here are some answers to your questions:
I got into contact with ships services through HAL's website to find out about the date nd time of the renewal. I have been trying to get the info for months, but since the AK season just starte, the date was just set.
It is unusual to have the vow renewal on the last night of the cruise; however, it is likely a result of the itinerary. We are often in port until late in the evening.

We went as guests to a vow renewal on one cruise and it was held on the last formal night, not the last night. That was nice because everyone was dressed formally and it made it really special for all. Great pictures. Having it the last night doesn't seem like such a great idea, IMO.

No music at our ceremony, even though we were in the piano bar. :-) It would be a very nice touch, though. Ask about it!
