We get on our ship in Venice on May 16, but do not leave port until May 17....when would the embarkation for Mariners be? Thanks.

I don't think that correct. I believe the Mariner's lunch will be on your first sea day. That is my recollection. If they did it on the 16th, most people would not even show up, they would either be in-transport or out visiting Venice.
As far as when you can get on, everyone can get on the 16th.
Am I mis-understanding something here?

KirkWe're not talking here about the Mariner's Brunch where you get steak or quiche, and free wine. That will be on a sea day later on in the cruise, but the Embarkation Brunch that began with the new Mariner's program last Oct is on embarkation day, just like anywhere else. And yes, many people do not show up because they are not on board yet.

Perhaps I am missing something but we do not see why anyone even cares about the embarkation lunch. There has always been lunch on embarkation day which is still served in the lido buffets. So now, HA allows Mariner members (which on many cruises is nearly everyone on the ship) to have lunch in the MDR. WOW! What a treat. Now, we will admit we enjoyed the embarkation lunch on Crystal where a crew member took our carry-on luggage, escorted us the dining room, brought us free champagne (the real stuff), and then we had a wonderful meal. Unfortunately HA has not yet risen to this level, but we can all dream.

the point is not having to deal with the buffet. some people like buffets, others don't.

Mary Ellen is certainly correct about Crystal prices which is why we prefer to cruise with HA :)

Taking a B2B in Nov so I guess we can do it 2x and make up for the last time when noone told us it was available and shood us to the buffet. I hope they do a Riistafel or something interesting.
