This is the write up I found for the SS suite on Zuiderdam,

"DVD player, television, minisafe, telephone, multichannel music, and a hairdryer. Enjoy additional suite amenities including complimentary bathrobes, personalized stationary, feather pillows, fresh fruit, and a video library."

Does it have a music stereo to play CDs? Or does the multichannel music thing play them? (that sounds more like a TV with music stations)
We would die to spend 7 days without our music.. maybe we will need to buy a portable DVD player for music??

If the DVD player is like the one that I have, you can play music CD's in it, with the sound coming out the tv.

Believe me you won't "die" without your music. I don't know if the DVD in our SS played music or not because we didn't spend that much time in the room. There were so many things to do around the ship and any time we spent in the cabin was on our verandah, reading and enjoying the sea.

If you think you will "just die", then buy a portable DVD player - saw lots of people with them around the pool.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise.

The DVD player in an SS will play CD's. The sound comes from the TV speakers so it's not great but it works.

If the Vista-class ships are like the older ones, the multi-channel music is a system much like that on airplanes, with a dial-selector built into your headboard and a couple of speakers. No CD-player. But if you insist on your own music, bring a portable CD-player.

Dave - no the system on the Vista ships is completely different. I know I was looking all over for the dial selector on the headboard and wondered where they devil they had put it. :) Finally found that you could get music by tuning into one of the TV channels

Ah! I also remember that the dial had a setting to play the public announcements in the room (great for debarkation day) - how does that work on Vista-class - can you watch the TV and get the announcements at the same time?

Guess I should have added that our SS was on the Oosterdam....a Vista class ship. Again, not the greatest sound but we played some island music we picked up at one of the ports and it was OK. As mentioned above, don't recall seeing the built in music system like on the older HAL ships.

I can't remember if we could watch TV also, but I don't think so. I couldn't figure out how to listen to the announcements for disembarkaton, so called the front office and was told to tune in to a certain channel. Don't ask me what channel it was, I can't remember what I did yesterday. ;)

Actually we would "die" it might sound funny, but we have music on all the time as low background music, whenever the TV is not on, its not loud or anything. We'd probably have it while we shower or change or sitting out in the Balcony... if there isnt soft music in the back ground both FH and I are lost..... pathetic I know. . but ooohh wellll:D

Canadian MAG,

I don't think it is pathetic at all, Fiance and I always either have music on or the TV , as you say not loud and blareing , but it is there.

In fact we cannot sleep without the TV on, we set the timer for an hour or so after we go to bed so its not on all night, but it sort of lulls us to sleep. Our cable tv system has severakl channels that play music 24/7. Each station plays a different type of music, and that is what we usually fall asleep to.

I found it annoying that when I heard the public announcement it was easier to open the cabin door to hear it from the hallway than to fiddle with the TV for the right channel.

The ShipCam channels each play different kinds of music, so there's something for everyone. The DVD player will play your CDs if you like.

Yes, the DVD will play your CD's via the TV.

Public announcements are also via the TV.

And yes, the PA's - particularly for disembarcation - are better heard via an open door to the corridor than via the TV.

So is it correct that the Zuiderdam suite will have a DVD/CD player? Do they have a library with a decent selection of DVD or should I bring my own?

DVDs are available in the Neptune Lounge.

If I remember correctly, the announcements are aired on the channel that shows the ship's position.

I know the original inquiry was for "S" grade cabins on Vista Class, but do any of you know if the flat screen TV's with DVD player in other cabin grades include a CD player? We also travel with music and it would sure help if there was a CD player in the cabin as there is for S-grade Suites. We'll be on Maasdam and I understand the TV's are the new ones for the Signature of Excellence upgrade.
