Has anyone visited this area during a port stop in Messina? We are considering a private Etna tour that is offered by Etna Sicily Touring, and the first part of the tour is a stop at the Alcantara River Fluvial Park. Do you think that active teens would enjoy this part of the tour, or is it rather tame?

We went to Alcantara, but only for a short time after visiting Taormina. Since our time was limited, we mainly just walked around and took pictures. It was beautiful with really interesting rock formations. I think there are active excursions to go "canyoning" there. We enjoyed going there since it definitely felt very "local" -- not a place where tourists typically go like Taormina.

Do a google search for Alcantara gorge and you can see a lot of pictures.
