Hi Chris
Just looked back over your posts on here we have 'spoke' before.
Are you doing just the week? We are being greedy this time and doing 2 as we loved the Celebration so much last year a week just wasn't enough:D
Where are you flying from?
Your AI package is safe they can't remove it. There would be a mutiny if they did.:) If it's the same as last year the Celebrations AI package was the best one of the fleet with a lot more drinks included on it.
As you've prob read on other threads it is not a luxury or huge ship but the service, friendliness ect. more than make up for this. We are one of the growing numbers who are hooked on Thomson's cruises.(Don't think that made sense but you know what I mean). If you want to ask any questions pls. do I have to go now but will spk. later.

here,s one mary, we are thinking about going on a few excursions, what time do you leave the ship,to go on them, does it mean you don,t have enough time to have a good full breakfast, which I hope to have every day.
chris.
If i think of more i,ll post you again

Six of us join the ship on the 7th June for two weeks, flying from Birmingham and Gatwick. Never been to Greece or Tukey or on the Celebration before so looking forward to it all!

Excursion tickets are delivered to your cabin and the meeting point and times are in the daily newspaper, so if you're off early you can get up early for breakfast. On Destiny the full breakfast was available from 7a.m. in both the buffet and the restaurant if I remember correctly, again the times are in the paper.

Hi Mary and Chris - I'll be joining you on the lido deck at the sailaway on 31 May.

2nd cruise on Celebration, on Red Sea Magic last year.

Will be on one of the organised tours to Ephesus, what about Bodrum and Mykonos is it easy to walk from the port? I've done the other greek ports so we probably won't do any of the organised ones. I would recommend going to Spinalonga and Elounda from Ag Nik.

Hi Chris
I didn't answer your other question as someone else bet me to it.
Would be good to meet up for a drink there's also some others joining us on this cruise.
How would you find me usually proping up the bar:D No I'm not that bad.
Have to think about that one. Sail away first night is usually too hectic to find anyone but when leaving other ports we usually watch from the Horizons Bar and always go there just before dinner. Could always walk round bar carrying big sign with names on like they do outside the aiport:D:D

Hi Scarey Mary

As you know we will be joining the ship on 7th June (Ottoman Treasures)and I just can't wait I am getting soooooo excited. :D

So I will hopefully be joining the Sail Away party on the 7th June, and have my sail away dress out ready to go in the case, I have worn the same dress for the sail away party each time we have been on a cruise (twice before) and Steve (Hubby) said "Oh no you can't go without that one", so in it goes!

See you on the 7th June. Hope you have a really super first week! ;) Am I envious, of course I am :D

Oh meant to ask the Formal evening, how formal is formal, is it long dresses or cocktail dresses?

Hi Chris + Carole

I don't know how to do mutiple quotes like some of the experts on here so I shall do them both together.:)

Chris the Horizons Bar is a smashing bar on deck 9 which has windows all round so the views are good when you are leaving ports. We usually get changed for dinner then go in here to watch us leave and have pre dinner drinks.
I have to get ready early as I cannot have a shower while we are sailing,
the heat and movement in a small space is not good for me.:( Actually as this is your first time it's a good tip. If you are likely to feel a bit queasy make sure you shower before you sail.
The formal evening is as formal as you want to make it. Either dresses are ok you find a large assortment of outfits. Some people really go to town and some just dress smart. I don't do dresses so just wear a nice top and evening trousers. Hubby does the DJ bit though.

Carole I am the same have always worn the same outfit for sailaway. Top and trousers the top is sort of sixties psycodelic(can't spell that) style. Don't wear it at home but can get away with it on cruise.(no one knows me). There thats how to spot me at sailaway can't be missed. Lucky us will be having 2 sail aways:)

Sounds as if there is quite a few of us going form on here we will all have to try and spot each other and have a drink.

See you soon

Hi Mary,
You hit the little Quote logo on the messages you want to quote. The one in the middle of the 3. Then when you have done that on the last one just hit the normal Quote tab as usual.
They should appear.

Oooops got that wrong. I gave Chris the advice on dresses in the last post.
Sorry Chris could blame my age but I'm not it's all this washing and ironing thats scrambled my brain.:)
Wish my clothes were too big I'll be the one who looks as if she's squeezed into her clothes:(. Had a dodgy knee and had to rest up so of course sat there piggin out feeling sorry for myself and now put loads of weight on.
Refuse to buy bigger size and since I'll be putting even more on I'll just have to wear a tent when I get back.:D

Hi Mary & Linda

I am going out on the 31st from Bristol and I have been on the Celebration to the Red Sea last Christmas but have not been for a drink in the Horizon Bar - I think I will have to make a visit now not just to see the view but to see the outfits...

Really looking forward to the cruise but if I dont see you Bon Voyage and you both have fun

Oh dear I managed to get the Novo Virus on this cruise:( in fact was debateable whether I could fly home yesterday but made it by the skin of my teeth, temperature was 37 and the Doc said is was border line but they let me go otherwise I would have been transferred to a hospital in Marmaris. It was quite bad on there and still do not feel well today (Tuesday). I did begin to wonder whether something was up when we were not allowed to help ourselves to the food they had to serve it to you. Then went back to the cabin one afternoon and they were spraying the deck carpet that I was on . I used all the hand get facilities on board as well as being diabetic I did not want to take any chances.

Anyway the cruise apart from that was excellent and staff really friendly and could not find anything wrong with the cruise.

Hope you are feeling better and I'm sorry you've been ill. So sorry to hear that you weren't well and hope you will soon be feeling much better. It's the norm for them to serve you in the self-service restaurant on Celebration so that isn't unusual - let's hope this is an isolated incident. They are very diligent about hygiene but as Jan says, it 'only takes one'. We try to be very careful, even carrying our own gel around with us (probably look a bit of a hypochondriac - but more and more people do) but it's so easy to pick these things up.

Pleased you enjoyed everything else about your cruise though - and Jan, make sure you take your gel! Have you seen there are some which claim to be effective against viruses as well as bacteria? I thought I'd get some of that next time - might as well do a belt and braces job!!!!! (As far as it's possible anyway!)

Hi Carole
So sorry you got the dreaded lurg and hope you are now feeling ok.
So many people came down with it we were very lucky not to get it especially since our friends were one of the first to get it. They were told it had been brought onto the ship from someone coming on from the hotel in Turkey he was ill when he boarded.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first week we had no problems at all. It was very good how the situation was handled. As you said no more self service and everywhere was being sprayed. All the tables in the Lido were constantly wet from all the spray and all the surfaces sticky. I don't think I have ever washed my hands as much.
Did you find anyone from on here? I didn't. I looked out for you on the 10th.
Did you go out on deck for the talk? Thought it was very moving when we had the one minutes silence. Hope you found what you wanted to see.

Hi Jan
Hope things will have settled down when you go. The crew are doing a brill. job. Anyone with the virus is quaranteened in their cabin and their cards deactivated and are only let out when given the all clear by the Doctor then the crew move in and spray and clean the whole cabin changing the curtains and everything. Everywhere you went they were spraying.

Hi Kruzseeker, I am definitely turning into Howard Hughes, lol, I'll be putting tissues on the floor to walk on next. Seriously though, I will try not to use the public toilets and stick to the cabin as I think hygiene is more under contol there. I know some people say that the gel is a waste of time but I think that as there are so many people who don't wash their hands after using the wc it's better than nothing (for them and us).:):) AND just to make sure I've got the anti diarrhea (spelling ?) and anti sickness tablets, lol.:D:D I actually prefer to be served at the buffet as it can end up a mess with people putting the wrong serving spoon back in the wrong dish. I hope Isis2 isn't reading this, she'll be feeling ill again.

Hi Mary

I tried to look for you as well, in fact I went up to two different ladies to ask them if they were you :o but they were not.

Did you see my bit in the Cruise News about my Grandfather and yes I did go and listen to the talk and in fact the Cruise Director said he wished he had known about me as he would have got me to say something :o whoa too scarey for words that would have been, but I think I would have tried to do it. I was so glad that they had a minute silence, nice touch I thought and they seem to do that each time they go through there. He did tell me that his brother is in the army and that is why he likes to do that, what a nice man. :)

Yes all was fine that week people started dissapearing on the Tues. Loads went down with it we were very lucky. Never cleaned my hands as much. As well as the dispensers every time I went past a toilet I went in to wash my hands. Don't think they've ever been as soft:) Our friends who went down with it were talking to a couple later in the week after they had been released from their cabin and the husband said he had it when he came on board after a week in Turkey!!!
Think as some hotels can be a bit 'iffy' and the ship so confined so everything spreads very fast it ought to be cruise and stay not the other way round.

There's one particular hotel with 'Village' in the name that has a history of sickness in Marmaris. Somebody posted on Trip Advisor last year that they actually saw people putting dirty nappies on the used plates by the pool, yuck!! We've booked into a 5*, staying 2nd week, with excellent reviews on all fronts and I think it's worth paying the extra as if you are ill for a few days that's a few hundred pounds worth down the toilet if you'll forgive the pun, lol. So, even though there are no guarantees I think we have a better chance of not catching anything than going somewhere with low standards. Just to add that I think you are better off not going in to wash in every toilet as if someone has contaminated the door handle you could be infected even if you've just washed your hands, use elbows where possible to go through communal doors. That's just my theory, I'm paranoid about catching things as I have S and V in the past and lost half a holiday.:):)

Hi Jan

Well actually we did not go on the Cruise trip to Gallipoli, but paid for a private one, as I wanted to see certain places only e.g. ANZAC Cove, Lone Pine also did not want to be hurried along as this was my first trip and wanted to spend time with my Grandfather, which I did, I think we were at Lone Pine for 1 hour and could not have done that on the cruise tour and then as a real treat got to walk in the ANZAC trenches at Lone Pine where my Grandfather would have been :D also managed to find an ANZAC bullet so brought it home with me, they are always being found there :D Also saw the Turkish Memorial there as well :) So yes the day was really special and one to treasure and remember for the rest of my life.

No I did not organise it when I got there I did it about, 4 weeks before we wnet, more or less as soon as I booked the cruise. :)

I have through reserch made a few contacts, espically in Australia and one of my contacts, we have become real friends, in fact we are meeting out there in 2015 for the 100 year celebractions, told Grandad I was going and anyway how could I not go? Also belong to an Association to do with Gallipoli and one name kept on coming up and also my contact in Australia uses them and so booked a private tour with them as I wanted to go to specific places e.g. ANZAC Cove, 4th Batallion Parade Ground (my Grandfathers Battalion, and yes they did trash Cairo, go Grandad go, thats my boy ) and also Lone Pine.

I wanted to spend time in these places as they are special to me and also did not want to be with strangers, crying my eyes out and Hubby having to explain why and getting it completely wrong, he can't even remember Grandads Batallion number. As a bonus was able to wander along what is left of the ANZAC trenches at Lone Pine, well actaully when Grandad joined they were not called ANZAC that came after Gallipoli, when Grandad joined in November 1914 they were called the AIF (Australian Imperial Force), sorry a bit off topic here also I was the first one ever to go and see him and after 95 years I think he deserved a private tour :)

It is very rare that Hubby and I do tours from the ship we like to go off on our own and really explore that way if we come across something interesting we can really take our time and have a good look about.

How did it compare with Thomsons, I think it was about £50 more expensive (so for the two of us it worked out about £25 each more expensive) but in my book well well worth it, they took me where I wanted to go, not where they wanted to go.

We were picked up at the dock and driven to the ferry port and was with someone the whole way also was met at the other side by our tour guide and then put back on the ferry and met the other side with a taxi waiting to take us back to the ship.

Yes am feeling a lot better now, but do sometimes still feel a bit sick, but not enought to stop me eating lol

Sorry Thomsons.

Thanks for that Isis2, very interesting and glad you managed to do everything you wanted to before you got sick. Up early today, have to get up and at it as I'm running behind schedule. Still, only 2 days to go, hurray!!:):)
