Thought I'd post a link (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=121090) to Vic's review, and here's another link (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=120128) to a second thread of his.

Vic, I just don't know what to say about your cruise.
I guess "Welcome Home" will have to suffice. :)
(The ride across the Atlantic sounds like fun, though. 40' seas, huh?)

A lovely review, Vic of a not-so-lovely voyage! After this, coupled with what some are saying here about Holiday cruises and some other reviews I've read on other boards I know where I won't be next Christmas!

Before reading all of the recent posts regarding holiday cruises we were planning a family cruies over Christmas 05/New Years 06. Now we are going to avoid that two week period like the plauge!
Luckily, The 2005/2006 academic schedules for DD#1's school and all of the schools DD#2 has applied to show that they will be off until after MLK day. I think we will be safe on a cruise departing 1/8 or 1/9 thus avaoiding the mayhem that seems to take place on cruise ships over the holidays.
Now....If HAL would just post their 2006 schedules we could come to a decision regarding which cruise to go on.

Crossings and cruises just can't be compared!
Have to say we've had some great Xmas and new year cruises - all several years ago and before discount pricing took hold.

Yea
I kinda figured it was the wrong place, and wrong time.
But, there are diehards who say a holiday cruise on that ship is the 'best thing'.
Guess they enjoy the company of grouches. Maybe they're just as grouchy, who knows. But I'm not sold. I tried it, and never again.

Hey...we were on the Zaandam Christmas cruise and had a lovely, quiet time along with many other wonderful cruisers. We ran into NO bad manners and though we know there were many children on board no difficulties there either. Since our lives for the next year or so are still determined by academic calendars we are still the fan of the Christmas Cruise -- we found the holiday celebrations to be there for those who wished and easy to avoid for those who did not. Only drawback is the holiday price -- retirement can't come too soon for us on that count.
