Can you go all the way forward to do the "King of the World" at the front of the ship?

When we were on it I saw no way of getting to the bow without going through the engine room which I assumed isn't allowed. I also recall a thread awhile back where someone did say there was a way you could get out there. If there is I'm sure someone on this board knows it.

Sure you can. We did it in Dec, it just takes some looking! Keep going forward on either deck 4 or 5, can't remember... Enjoy!:D

No you can't.
I assume the "king of the world" thing means to go all the way to the bow of the ship... right at the vee... and peer over the front.
You can't do that on Zuiderdam. Beleive me, I tried.
There is a front balcony on Deck 4, 5, 6, and 7 that you can get to and look over the bow deck of the ship. This bow deck is on the Promenade Deck level. It has a spare anchor on it, and a brass bell. The brass bell is right about where you would want to do the "king of the world" thing.

And do they throw you in the brig if they catch you out there or is it totally allowed? :)

I saw a thread on Alaska cruises and LAFFNVEGAS had a link to photos from their Alaska cruise on the Oosterdam. The link below is to one of those shots with people standing right in front of the bell mentioned in this thread.

You can get to the point of the bow from the starboard side of Upper Promenade Deck 4. It is a watertight door with a wheel to turn right outside the officer's lounge. When we inquired about it, Our cabin steward took us out. The door is not marked with any sign except "keep this door closed." It is extremely windy.

We were informed by a crew man that we could indeed go out tyo the bow on Deck 4 starboard but that the door had to remain locked in the evening- he showed us how to both open and close the door from the outside. There is no indication that passengers are forbidden- it's not encouraged by the lack of signage I suppose.

On the Ryndam (Panama Canal and South America-Antiarctica cruises), the Volendam (Alaska cruise) and on the Zuiderdam (Caribbean cruise), we have always been able to go to the bow. On these cruises, the bow was one of the best viewing points, especially in Alaska and Antarctica.

Would you like my photos taken not a month ago on the bow of Zuiderdam, at the front of the ship...at the King of the World spot?
:-)
ShipCafe is right -- this are is NORMALLY closed, but it typically is opened by the captain during sail away and other periods where winds are not dangerously high.
