This may sound like a silly question, but are there restrooms on HMC? I'm not sure I'm going to swim in the ocean and wanted to know if there was a place to change into a suit should I change my mind.
As you can tell, I know very little about this private island. Thanks.

There are a number of restrooms scattered on the island. There is no dock at the island, requiring everyone to tender back and forth. Additionally, they serve lunch and drinks. It would be quite the logistical nightmare if everyone had to return to the ship to use a restroom:eek:

Also outdoor showers for rinsing off the sand, and a few "misting stations," which are pleasant places to walk through to cool off on a hot day.
Also (as of last time I was there), you will find several outdoor bars on the beach, some shops for T-shirts, straw goods and souvenirs, an ice cream shop, and a tiny chapel. I understand much more has been added.
Pick up a nice, fluffy beach towel on your way off the ship, drop it off when you return.

Thanks very much, Cactuslady! That info helps alot. Glad to know there is more to do than just sun yourself on the beach. :)

The larger restrooms (not sure about the smaller ones) also have changing stalls with doors.

HAL has done a nice job @HMC, with a nice beach, some snorkeling, excellent food, etc. Forget the straw market.
They have clamshells for rent to shade you if neccessary.
It's actually a much better stop for beachers than some of the "non-private" islands--of course being an American Isle clothing is not optional!!!
We were there last fall and the ladies in the group were able to change after the beach and before lunch.
We were there on a day when only 1 ship was there--it could get crowded with more than 1 ship in the soring season!!

Could someone explain the cabanas that you can rent?

I have rented the turquiose cabana for my Volendam cruise in April/05. The cost is $219 for up to 4 ppl. There are threads on here describing this. However, if you go to the HAL website for tours you can click on a description and it shows a picture of one and all of the goodies that you get.
They are 3 sided structures with the opening facing the sea. Inside there is an air conditioner, padddle fan, mini-fridge and counter-storage space along with a table and 4 chairs. There is a small outside connected deck with chaise lounge, misters and your own outdoor shower to wash off the salt spray. You will have some soft drinks, bottled water fruit, chips and vegetables and dip. Snorkel gear, floating mats and priority tender tickets are included.
A cabana boy (s) will deliver additional drinks and alcohol (for a price) and will bring you an assortment of food from the BBQ to your cabana.
There is a Butler Service package which is an additional charge of $179 (I think) with an upgraded lunch menu and additional services. I did not book this.

At first I thought the price was a little steep, until I read the rest of your description. Not a bad deal! I was able to see some photo's and the only thing I didn't like was the closed in feel with the latice. You can't see the ocean through it! Air condition? Is it noisy?

When I was at HMC in April I did not rent one but walked close by one and could not hear the a/c except for when I walked behind it going to lunch. Since this is my first time actually renting I will have to find out when I get there unless someone else knows.

That is up to your own personal preference.
I just finished booking my last 2 tours yesterday for my cruise in April/05. I booked the cabana back in November/04. I like to get as much out of the way as possible so I do not have to make these decisions on the ship.

Some excursions will sell out early online or on the first day aboard ship, so if there are ones you really want to do and not take a chance, then book them online now. Some actually do say 'limited availability', so if you are interested in one or more of these, book it now for sure.
You can cancel online up to 10 days before boarding when the online booking closes, if you change your mind, and the charge will be taken off your credit card (you do pay by cc online). Or if you decide to cancel once you are onboard you will get a credit on your ship account.

The lattice did not interfere with our vision and a/c was not noisy, nor was the celling fan dh had running too! :)
