Going on the Oosterdam the end of July to Alaska. Having never cruised with HAL was wondering how much drink prices are....wine, beer
also is the Culinary program free or is there a charge.......... looks interesting .
are there any other tips for me:confused:
I'm really looking forward to cruising with Holland America. I'm a "die hard" Princess fan and have finally gotten to elite status. I've also cruised on NCL, Celebrity and RCL. So not new to cruising;)

Welcome to HAL! Wine....you can bring on your own....so whatever you prefer is the price that you buy it at your local winery! There are culinary "shows" for free....but to participate in a class (with less then 12 people) is $29, and includes an apron and recipes. Very fun. Have a great cruise!:D

You will like HAL and the Oosterdam. Who knows you just might become a HAL "die hard cruiser".
Enjoy your cruise and Alaska.

You can bring as much wine, champagne, bottled water and soda on board as you want. However you can not bring on any hard liquor or beer -- it will be confiscated. If you do bring on wine or champagne and take it to the dining room or a lounge there is an $18 corkage fee per bottle.
There are free cooking demonstrations and classes that cost $29 per person and are limited to 12 people per class. If you are interested in taking a class -- when you get on the ship -- go to the front office and ask to see the menus for the classes -- this is where you can sign up for the classes. There is no signing up for the demos.

Having been on several lines, HAL has THE BEST bedding and by far the most comfortable.:)

I am looking at the Prinsendam to Amsterdam (always wanted to do that!)... either next year or the year after that... I'm still kind of a cruise newbie, so any tips of any kind whatsoever, will be very much appreciated! :)
