My husband and I are planning to cruise the Med next year.

1. Should we go for the back-to-back 20 day or is it too much?

2. should we go in May or Sept/Oct?

Any suggestions/comments are appreciated!

Can you give more details of the itinerary of the 20 day b2b. How many days at sea and how many in port? Where does the cruise start/end?

we have done b2b in both time frames in the Med .. I prefer the fall as it is cooler and end of season so there seem to be less tourists.

The Med cruises I've paid attention to, and certainly the ones I have taken, are exceedingly port-intensive. If you are planning to take it easy on some of the days, then 20 days makes the flights more worth it.
But if you are planning to take in everything you can, then you will need a great deal of stamina to do 20 consecutive days.

We did b2b Med cruise last year for a total of 24 days. It was very port intensive with only 3 sea days. We loved it. The time flew by and we didn't want it to end. We had decided with the long distance to travel, and flight costs, it was a better deal to do it all at once.

We went in May. A friend had told me when going early in the tourist season, the locals are happy to see you and have your business, and later in the season still happy to have the business but maybe not as happy to have all the tourists still around. The weather was perfect. We even enjoyed the beaches in Greece and they were not busy at all.

You will have a fabulous time, whatever you decide.

Having been in the Med in the fall (B2B cruise out of Venice Sept 24 - Oct 14th) and having just completed a 32 day cruise from Ft Lauderdale to Venice and onto Istanbul starting on April 14th, I would definitely chose the spring. It was at least 10 to 15 degrees cooler than our fall cruise. Also, the landscape was greener and there were wildflowers everywhere. We also had 31 days of sunshine---only one rainy day in Venice.

I was very warm on the fall cruise as the temperatures were in the high 80's and into the 90's. On the spring cruise the temperatures were in the 70's. A couple of the days might have approached 80--but I can live with 80 degrees. We also cruised from Copenhagen to Athens in September---again it was very warm. Weather in the Mediterrean was great on all three cruises, but absolutely fantastic on this year's spring cruise. Although I'm sure that our 31 days of sunshine was a real fluke. We just lucked out.

I enjoyed the wildflowers so much that I'm thinking of going on TA's in the spring in the future.

I forgot to mention that I love B2B's. I take them everytime I find an itinerary that I love. But do try to find ones with a few sea days as they are needed to restore your energy after lots of port intensive days.

My husband and I have just returned (last week) from a 24day b2b in the Mediterranean. It was very port intensive but all the ports were so interesting that we loved every minute of it.

It's a loooong way to fly to Europe from Australia (and quite expensive) so the longer cruise made this discomfort more worth while.

Obviously we went in May and found the weather excellent - quite hot in Athens and Kusadasi, but very comfortable for sighteeing in all the other ports. I haven't been there in September so can't comment on that time of the year.

Whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Thanks to all for your suggestions!
We are thinking of taking a 20 day cruise (2 10 days - back to back) leaving and returning to Rome. Only a couple of days at sea. it sounds that if we plan our touring well, we can do it and that spring seems to be the preferred time of year!

We did 24 days B to B last June and loved it, not a cloud in the sky for one of those 24 days. As discussed it is very port intensive but a great trip.
