Going to Bermuda on the Veendam, this will be my first HAL cruise. We're booked Inside GTY. Last night, I received an offer to upgrade to a category C-H oceanview for $99 p/p. Normally, I'm not a big fan of O/V cabins. If it's not a balcony, I just go interior. But, for less than $15/day we can get this upgrade. Does anybody feel like it's a good deal?? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

no, technically, this is an upsell not an upgrade. upgrades are free.

do you mean c-a (there is no c-h)? if so, that's a 'lanai' cabin with a sliding door onto the lower promenode. that said, there is a thread here (http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1104380&highlight=lanai) discussing the pros and cons of these lanai cabins. i don't think i woulkd like one.

If this is a regular ocean view outside, it is a good deal you are being offered with this upsell (an upgrade at reduced cost). check your deck plan. If it is a Lanai, then I can't tell you what to do, because I don't know if I would book one.

In any case, the outsides are bigger than most interiors and day light is a nice thing.

If you mean this would be an upgrade to a C-to-H guarantee, you could end up with a G or H cabin on the lower two decks which have just a porthole and are very far forward (bad for motion). IMO the inside would be better.

Be careful. HAL already offered us an upgrade (from inside to H). We turned them down for several reasons: H cabin was much smaller than the cabin we have now, H cabin had obstructed view, so what's the point?, the H cabin was not midship as we are now, but so far forward we would have felt every roll & pitch., H cabin was not remotely close to an elevator as we are not.

So we learned that sometimes an upgrade offer is not a bargain. We're sticking with our inside, UNLESS HAL offers us a suite free-of-charge! LOL, like that's gonna happen in this lifetime.

Correction: H cabin was not remotely close to an elevator as we are now.

In the end only you can make the decision to accept an offer. Once you do, don't second-guess yourself or regret it. It's done.

Have a super cruise!

Doing a GTY cabin, you may get a nice upgrade for free anyway. We booked on Veendam a few weeks ago for an N inside GTY, and ended up with an I inside on the Verandah deck, which was much closer to all the action. (There are very few N cabins so we knew we had a good shot.) Now, our stateroom didn't end up being very good with lots of noise issues, but some would still consider it a good upgrade because of its location. I would stick with your GTY and see what you get, but I'm a gamblin' gal! :-)

Thank you all for the input(s). It was also my gut reaction, (after looking at the deck plans) that this upsell wasn't in the most desired location. So we're going to stick it out and see what cards we're dealt. Again, thanks so much!!

I would have called in and you still can. When HAL makes these offers it is not for a Guarantee. They will have cabin numbers for you to chose from and you could very easily get a mid ship C cabin which for the price would be nice.
It certainly does not cost aything to call them and see what they have, if you do not like the location then pass.

I agree. I was only willing to do it in January when I knew which rooms I had to choose from. And I got a deal. A phone call won't hurt.....

I was offered this same upsell yesterday. I stuck with our inside, as the 2 cabins that were available were both on the Promenade deck, but were NOT Lanai...(might have done it for lanai, but both of the ones offered were by either the stairs or vending)

It doesn't hurt to call though...maybe there are different cabins avail now.

I'm not 100% sure...there was a lot of white space on the deck plan, and I asked my TA what it was and he said Vending. Launderette makes sense too. Either way, between that and the elevator, I decided to pass. I might kick myself when I get there and see the location, but I will still enjoy spending the extra $200 I would have spent on the upgrade in the spa.
