Hello, We have a lanai cabin  booked for our October Bermuda cruise and after reading all about their many problems, we are thinking of upgrading to a verandah cabin. The price difference is ridiculous, but may be well worth it for the peace of mind. My only concern is ending up with a verandah that is all closed in. Are most of the verandahs glassed in? If not, where are the closed in verandahs?

Thank you so much for your time! :)

To the best of my knowledge, all verandahs are open.
Good luck with your decision!:)

Are you talking about the material under the railing? Unless HAL did some extensive renovations since I last had a verandah cabin on the Veendam, there is a small gap then metal under the railing. We couldn't see the water while sitting - either on the verandah or from the cabin sofa.

That is what I mean- the material under the railing. In pictures, a lot of them look glassed in, but it's so hard to tell.

Some of the ships have a transparent material under the verandah railing, but not the Veendam when I sailed on her.

Here are two photos of Veendam veranda cabins from HAL's site -- steel about half way up then open space, a rail, open space and the top wooden rail. Hope this helps; enjoy your cruise.

Have you looked for pictures of Veendam verandah cabins on the picture site, sticky at top of page? Someone may have contributed some good views...EM

Here is what a verandah looks like on the S class ships:

There is one lounge chair, a regular chair and a small cocktail table.

The "MS Veendam" received a dozen new cabins toward the front of the ship that are different than the standard verandah cabins. BQ100-116 have more of a solid type of balcony.

Thank you so much for all of your help! This has been really helpful for us. Now to decide if the verandah is worth an extra $1200..... :)
