New to HAL and I see that you can reserve a cabana for around $200+
that's a little steep for the 2 of us, since we will probably not get to use
it for a long period of time, wanting to explore the rest of the island but
would love to be able to come back and relax out of the sun. I hear that
they have Clam Shells, I believe that would probably suit us, do you need
to reserve these, and if so, what is the cost?? I don't see much info on
these. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Clamshells are $9.00 each, not per person. You should plan on reserving one. You can do this on the shore excursion part of HAL's website.

Clamshells are $9 and include 2 lounge chairs and the clamshell covering. You can rent one on 'Shore Excursions'- HMC- on the HAL website.
Edit- Sorry, Sierrachik. Your post was not up when I clicked on Reply. I hate when people post exactly the same thing that somebody else has already said and here I have done the same thing, but not knowingly. ;)

The clamshells are $9 each. They are portable and scattered along the beach. You can reserve ahead of time and walk on the island with your paid ticket or take a chance and wait till you get to the island, find a clamshell of your liking and sit down - someone will eventually come by and ask to see your paid ticket or collect the $9 from you at that time.

Our turquoise cabana was wonderful. We shared it and the expenses with another couple. They provided drinks and snacks and water toys. They sent a stocking request at the beginning of the cruise and we could request furniture other than what was provided and personalize the soft drink menu. They send plenty. Veggie and chips and salsa trays. It has a shower, air conditioner, misters, glass-topped table and chairs, loungers etc. Very worthwhile. Lovely view of the beach and ship, close to the rest rooms...we loved it!

We have found the clamshells to be very much in demand and there always seems to be a shortage of them. Be sure to reserve it well in advance.
When you get on shore at HMC, just go to the beach hut where the water toys are rented. Show your clamshell ticket and someone there will set up your clamshell for you.
As for what they look like....they are stripped canvas and form a very protective sort of hood or sunshade where you can put your two lounges to be out of the sun. We have found them to be very satisfactory and a good value.
There are probably 20 or 30 of them along the beach.

I was not able to book a clamshell b/c there was 2 ships in that day. What I did was sit between the clamshells and oooohh..... it was so comfortable and the shade was very cool. It felt around 70 degrees(?)I stayed in the water most of the time anyways.
