Looking to do a cruise on the Maasdam in March and since I live only a 5 hour drive away looking for hotels in the Norfolk area that will allow long-term parking on their property and provide shuttle service to the ship when booking a room. Since this option will probably cost no more than just driving down and parking at port facility would just as soon do a leisurely drive down the day before.
Thanks
Frank

Frank,

The hotels for a park and stay that people use are the Radisson hotel on Monticello, the Holiday Inn Select on Northampton and the Best Western Ocean Sands. If you do a search on this board or the Celebrity board on Norfolk hotels you'll find a bunch of info.

There is a search feature on this board up in the blue line above. Search this board and others for the different options for hotels at this locale. Someone posted the same question in the last couple of days. (I stayed at the Holiday Inn Select and left my car for the 10 days).

HI FRANK, WE CRUISED ON THE MAASDAM THIS MONTH. WE STAYED AT THE HOLIDAY INN SELECT IN NORFOLK (757)213-2231 OR WWW.HISELECT.COM/NORFOLKVA AND IT WAS WONDERFUL. THE COST WAS AROUND $125 FOR ONE NIGHT AND THE PARKING IS FREE FOR THE ENTIRE TIME YOU ARE ON THE CRUISE. THEY HAVE A SHUTTLE TO TAKE YOU TO AND FROM THE CRUISE SHIP, WHICH IS ABOUT 15 MIN. AWAY. THEY WILL ALSO TAKE YOU TO A SHOPPING AREA OR RESTAURANT IF YOU LIKE AND COME BACK AND PICK YOU UP WHEN YOU ARE READY. THERE IS ALSO A RESTAURANT ON THE PREMISES.

TravelnutsWife: I'll be the one to ask you for a favor. Please don't post in all caps. It's very difficult to read and it also, in 'net' language, means you are shouting  , which I'm sure you're not. Thanks. :)

I posted this under US Ports of call, but it might get some feed back here (we already have hotel done, parking not a factor since cruise will be one way to Canada).

Looking for restaurant recommendations. This is the first sailing of the season for the Maasdam to NE/Canada and some of us are coming in the day before (we are staying near the pier in a boutique hotel). We were in Norfolk in Nov. as a stop on a cruise and some of it seemed rather sterile, but there was another neighborhood near the port that was absolutely beautiful (pagoda) and obviously one in which the people that live there are neighborly and would enjoy walking to nearby restaurants for dinner, especially since they have their own park for walking.

To those people, where are your neighborhood restaurants???and which ones do you recommend (names and addresses would be appreciated). Randy

I don't go into Norfolk too much, but might be able to help a little. You're probably referring to the Ghent section of Norfolk, or possibly the Hague. Collie Ave. in Ghent has a number of local restaurants. I also like Freemason Abbey, which is about a mile away from the pier. You can get info from their web site (http://www.freemasonabbey.com/). Also, NorfolkSailor is a lot more knowledgeable. You may want to repost this as a new thread directed at him.

Orcrone, thanks for the suggestion as I have now read a review from NorfolkSailor, but I'm having trouble posting a new message directed to him, and it is time to go shovel as the snow has stopped, and the plow just came through. Randy

Randy,

I had trouble starting a new thread last week. This board doesn't allow you to send e-mails directly to someone. However, if you go to the Cruise Addicts roll call web page (http://cruise-addicts.com/forums/list.php?36) you will find a thread started by NorfolkSailor. If you click on his name you can send him an e-mail directly.
